1 O Senhor disse a Moisés para dar as seguintes instruções ao povo de Israel:2 Quando nascer uma criança, se for rapaz a mãe será cerimonialmente impura por sete dias, sob as mesmas restrições que durante os seus períodos menstruais. No oitavo dia o menino será circuncidado. E durante os trinta e três dias seguintes, enquanto a mãe recupera da sua impureza ritual, não deverá tocar em nada que seja sagrado, nem entrar no tabernáculo.5 Se for uma menina que tiver nascido, a impureza da mãe prolongar-se-á por duas semanas, durante as quais ficará sob as mesmas restrições que durante os seus períodos regulares. Depois, durante mais sessenta e seis dias continuará a recuperar da sua impureza.6 Quando acabarem estes dias de purificação, por um menino ou por uma menina, deverá trazer um cordeiro dum ano como holocausto, mais um pombo de pouca idade, ou uma rola, para expiação do pecado. Deverá trazê-los até ao sacerdote, à porta do tabernáculo, e este oferecê-lo-á ao Senhor para fazer expiação por ela. E assim será limpa novamente depois da sua perda de sangue. Isto é pois o que deverá fazer depois do nascimento do seu filho.8 Mas se for demasiado pobre para poder obter um cordeiro, poderá trazer duas rolas ou dois pombinhos. Um deles será para o holocausto e o outro para a oferta de expiação do pecado. O sacerdote fará a expiação por ela com estes animais, e será limpa novamente.

1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, If a woman hath conceived seed, and borne a male-child; then she shall be unclean seven days; according to the days of the separation for her infirmity shall she be unclean.3 And in the eighth day the flesh of his foreskin shall be circumcised.4 And she shall then continue in the blood of her purifying three and thirty days: she shall touch no hallowed thing, nor come into the sanctuary, until the days of her purifying be fulfilled.5 But if she shall bear a female-child, then she shall be unclean two weeks, as in her separation: and she shall continue in the blood of her purifying sixty six days.6 And when the days of her purifying are fulfilled, for a son, or for a daughter, she shall bring a lamb of the first year for a burnt-offering, and a young pigeon, or a turtle-dove, for a sin-offering, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, to the priest;7 Who shall offer it before the LORD, and make an atonement for her; and she shall be cleansed from the issue of her blood. This is the law for her that hath borne a male or a female.8 And if she shall not be able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt-offering, and the other for a sin-offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
