1 Eis uma lista dos sacerdotes que acompanharam Zorobabel (filho de Sealtiel) e Jesua: Seraías, Jeremias, Esdras,2 Amarias, Maluque, Hatús, Secanias, Reum, Meremote, Ido, Ginetói, Abias, Miamim, Maadias, Bilga, Semaías, Joiaribe, Jedaías, Salú, Amoque, Hilquias, Jedaías.8 Os levitas que foram com eles: Jesua, Binui, Cadmiel, Serebias, Judá, Matanias; este último tinha o encargo de dirigir os cânticos de louvor.9 Baquebuquias e Uno, seus irmãos de clã, assistiam-no nesse serviço.10 Jesua foi pai de Joiaquim; Joiaquim foi pai de Eliasibe; Eliasibe foi pai de Joiada; Joiada foi pai de Jónatas; Jónatas foi pai de Jadua.12 A seguir indicam-se os chefes de clã dos sacerdotes que serviram sob o sumo sacerdote Joiaquim:Meraías, líder do clã de Seraías ananias, líder do clã de JeremiasMesulão, líder do clã de Esdras eoanã, líder do clã de Amarias ónatas, líder do clã de Maluque osé, líder do clã de Sebanias dna, líder do clã de Harim elcai, líder do clã de Meraiote acarias, líder do clã de Ido esulão, líder do clã de Ginetom icri, líder do clã de Abias iltai, líder dos clãs de Miniamim e de Moadias amua líder do clã de Bilga eónatas, líder do clã de Semaías atenai, líder do clã de Joiaribe zi, líder do clã de Jedaías alai, líder do clã de Salai ber, líder do clã de Amoque asabias, líder do clã de Hilquias etanel, líder do clã de Jedaías.22 Um relato genealógico dos cabeças de clãs dos sacerdotes e levitas foi compilado durante o reinado de Dario da Pérsia, nos dias de Eliasibe, de Joiada, de Joanã e de Jadua - todos eles levitas. No livro das crónicas os nomes dos levitas foram inscritos até aos dias de Jeoanã, filho de Eliasibe.24 Eram estes os chefes dos levitas nessa altura: Hasabias, Serebias e Jesua (filho de Cadmiel). Os seus irmãos de clã auxiliavam-nos durante as cerimónias de louvor e de agradecimento, tal como foi ordenado por David, o homem de Deus.25 Os porteiros que tinham o cargo de organizar os locais de recepção das colectas, nas entradas, eram: Matanias, Baquebuquias, Obadias, Mesulão, Talmom e Acube.26 Todos estes eram os homens activos durante o tempo de Joiaquim (filho de Jesua, filho de Josadaque) e também ao tempo em que eu era governador, e que Esdras era sacerdote e escriba.27 Durante a consagração da nova muralha de Jerusalém, todos os levitas de toda a terra vieram a Jerusalém para assistir às cerimónias e tomar parte nessa festa com alegria e com os seus louvores, acompanhados com címbalos, liras e harpas. Os membros do coro também vieram a Jerusalém das localidades vizinhas e das aldeias dos auxiliares do templo; vieram igualmente de Bete-Gilgal, da área de Geba e de Azmavete, porque os cantores tinham construído as suas próprias aldeias nos subúrbios de Jerusalém. Os sacerdotes e os levitas consagraram-se primeiro a si mesmos, depois consagraram o povo, as portas e a muralha.31 Levei os chefes judeus e dois coros para cima da muralha e dividi-os em duas longas colunas, andando em direcções opostas por cima da muralha, dando louvores com gratidão enquanto iam andando. O grupo que ia para a direita, em direcção da porta do Monturo, consistia em metade dos chefes de Judá, e incluíam Hosaías, Azarias, Esdras, Mesulão, Judá, Benjamim, Semaías, e Jeremias.35 Os sacerdotes que tocavam as trombetas eram Zacarias (filho de Jónatas e cuja ascendência era: Semaías, Matanias, Micaías, Zacur, e Asafe) e ainda Semaías, Azarel, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Netanel, Judá e Hanani. (Usavam os instrumentos originais de música do rei David.) Esdras o sacerdote encabeçava o cortejo. Quando chegaram à porta da Fonte, continuaram em frente, subiram as escadas do castelo até à velha cidade de David; depois seguiram até à porta da Água, a oriente.38 O outro grupo, do qual eu próprio fazia parte, foi no outro sentido ao encontro do primeiro. Deslocou-se a partir da torre dos Fornos até ao muro Largo; depois, desde a porta de Efraim até à porta Velha; passámos a porta do Peixe e a torre de Hanael e prosseguimos até à porta da Torre dos Cem; avançámos à porta das Ovelhas e parámos à porta da Prisão.40 Após isso os dois coros foram para o templo. Os que estavam comigo encontraram-se com os sacerdotes tocando as trombetas, que eram: Eliaquim, Maaseías, Miniamim, Micaías, Elioenai, Zacarais e Hananias;42 e também os cantores Maaséias, Semaías, Eleazar, Uzi, Jeoanã, Malquias, Elã e Ezer. Os coros cantaram, forte e claramente, sob a direcção de Jezraías.43 Muitos sacrifícios foram oferecidos nessa alegre jornada, porque Deus nos tinha dado razões de grande regozijo. Também as mulheres e as crianças se alegravam; e todo o ruído dessa grande manifestação se ouvia até muito longe!44 Nesse dia foram designados homens encarregados dos cofres, das ofertas alçadas, dos dízimos, dos primeiros frutos oferecidos, e da colecta destes donativos junto dos agricultores, conforme mandado nas leis de Moisés. Estas ofertas eram destinadas aos sacerdotes e levitas, como expressão do apreço em que o povo de Judá tinha o serviço que executavam. Também o serviço dos cantores e dos porteiros era tido em muita consideração - estes homens assistiam os outros no culto a Deus e no cumprimento das cerimónias de purificação, tal como requerido na leis de David e do seu filho Salomão.46 (Foi nos dias de David e de Asafe que se iniciou o costume de haver directores que conduzissem o coro com hinos de louvor e de gratidão a Deus.) Assim agora, nos dias de Zorobabel e de Neemias, o povo trazia um fornecimento diário de comida para os membros do coro, para os porteiros e para os levitas. Estes últimos, por sua vez, davam aos sacerdotes uma parte do que tinham recebido.

These were the chief of the priests and of their brethren in the days of Jeshua.8 Moreover the Levites: Jeshua, Binnui, Kadmiel, Sherebiah, Judah, and Mattaniah, who was over the thanksgiving, he and his brethren.9 Also Bakbukiah and Unni, their brethren, were over against them in the watches.10 And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada,11 And Joiada begat Jonathan, and Jonathan begat Jaddua.12 And in the days of Joiakim were priests, the chief of the fathers: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah;13 Of Ezra, Meshullam; of Amariah, Jehohanan;14 Of Melicu, Jonathan; of Shebaniah, Joseph;15 Of Harim, Adna; of Meraioth, Helkai;16 Of Iddo, Zechariah; of Ginnethon, Meshullam;17 Of Abijah, Zichri; of Miniamin, of Moadiah, Piltai;18 Of Bilgah, Shammua; of Shemaiah, Jehonathan;19 And of Joiarib, Mattenai; of Jedaiah, Uzzi;20 Of Sallai, Kallai; of Amok, Eber;21 Of Hilkiah, Hashabiah; of Jedaiah, Nethaneel.22 The Levites in the days of Eliashib, Joiada, and Johanan, and Jaddua, were recorded chief of the fathers: also the priests, to the reign of Darius the Persian.23 The sons of Levi, the chief of the fathers, were written in the book of the chronicles, even till the days of Johanan the son of Eliashib.24 And the chief of the Levites: Hashabiah, Sherebiah, and Jeshua the son of Kadmiel, with their brethren over against them, to praise and to give thanks according to the commandment of David the man of God, ward over against ward.25 Mattaniah, and Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon, Akkub, were porters keeping the ward at the threshholds of the gates.26 These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest, the scribe.27 And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.28 And the sons of the singers assembled, both out of the plain country around Jerusalem, and from the villages of Netophathi;29 Also from the house of Gilgal, and from the fields of Geba and Azmaveth: for the singers had built them villages around Jerusalem.30 And the priests and the Levites purified themselves, and purified the people, and the gates, and the wall.31 Then I brought up the princes of Judah upon the wall, and appointed two great companies of them that gave thanks, of which one went on the right hand upon the wall towards the dung-gate:32 And after them went Hoshaiah, and half of the princes of Judah,33 And Azariah, Ezra, and Meshullam,34 Judah, and Benjamin, and Shemaiah, and Jeremiah,35 And certain of the priests' sons with trumpets; namely, Zechariah the son of Jonathan, the son of Shemaiah, the son of Mattaniah, the son of Michaiah, the son of Zaccur, the son of Asaph:36 And his brethren, Shemaiah, and Azarael, Milalai, Gilalai, Maai, Nethaneel, and Judah, Hanani, with the musical instruments of David the man of God, and Ezra the scribe before them.37 And at the fountain-gate, which was over against them, they went up by the stairs of the city of David, at the ascent of the wall, above the house of David, even to the water-gate eastward.38 And the other company of them that gave thanks went over against them, and I after them, and the half of the people upon the wall, from beyond the tower of the furnaces even to the broad wall;39 And from above the gate of Ephraim, and above the old gate, and above the fish-gate, and the tower of Hananeel, and the tower of Meah, even to the sheep-gate: and they stood still in the prison-gate.40 So stood the two companies of them that gave thanks in the house of God, and I, and the half of the rulers with me:41 And the priests; Eliakim, Maaseiah, Miniamin, Michaiah, Elioenai, Zechariah, and Hananiah, with trumpets;42 And Maaseiah, and Shemaiah, and Eleazar, and Uzzi, and Jehohanan, and Malchijah, and Elam, and Ezer. And the singers sang loud, with Jezrahiah their overseer.43 Also that day they offered great sacrifices, and rejoiced: for God had made them rejoice with great joy: the wives also and the children rejoiced: so that the joy of Jerusalem was heard even afar off.44 And at that time were some appointed over the chambers for the treasures, for the offerings, for the first-fruits, and for the tithes, to gather into them out of the fields of the cities the portions of the law for the priests and Levites: for Judah rejoiced for the priests and for the Levites that waited.45 And both the singers and the porters kept the ward of their God, and the ward of the purification, according to the commandment of David, and of Solomon his son.46 For in the days of David, and Asaph of old there were chief of the singers, and songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.47 And all Israel in the days of Zerubbabel, and in the days of Nehemiah, gave the portions of the singers and the porters, every day his portion: and they sanctified holy things to the Levites; and the Levites sanctified them to the children of Aaron.
