1 Moreover, I, Paul, myself, exhort you, through the meekness and considerateness of the Christ,I who, to look upon, indeed, am lowly toward you, but, absent, am bold towards you;2 I entreat, however, that, when present, I may not be bold with the assurance wherewith I think to be daring against some who account of us as though, according to flesh, we were walking,3 For, though, in flesh, we walk, not, according to flesh, do we war,4 For, the weapons of our warfare, are not fleshly, but mighty, by God, unto a pulling down of strongholds,5 When we pull down, calculations, and every height that uplifteth itself against the knowledge of God, and when we bring into captivity every thought unto the obedience of the Christ,6 And when we hold ourselves, in readiness, to avenge all disobedience, as soon as your obedience shall be fulfilled!7 The things that lie on the surface, ye are looking at:if anyone hath come to trust in himself that he is, Christs, this, let him reckon, again, with himselfthat, even as, he, is Christs, so, also are, we.8 Yea, if, somewhat more abundantly, I should boast concerning our authoritywhich the Lord hath given for building up and not for pulling you down, I shall not be put to shame,9 That I may not seem as though I would be terrifying you through means of my letters;10 Because, The letters, it is true (saith one), are weighty and strong, but, the presence of the body, is weak, and, the discourse, contemptible;11 This, let such a one reckonthat, what we are, in our word, through means of letters, being absent, such, also, being present, are we, in our deed.12 For we dare not class or compare ourselves with some who do, themselves, commend; but, they, among themselves, measuring, themselves, and comparing themselves with themselves, are without discernment!13 We, however, not as to the things without measure, will boast ourselves, but, according to the measure of the limit which God apportioned unto us, as a measureto reach as far as even you!14 For, not as though we were not reaching unto you, are we over-stretching ourselves, for, as far as even you, were we beforehand in the glad-message of the Christ:15 Not, as to the things without measure, boasting ourselves in other mens toils, but having, hopeyour faith, growingamong you, to be enlarged, according to our limit for something beyond,16 Unto the regions beyond you, to carry the glad-message: not, within another mans limit, as to the things made ready, to boast ourselves.17 He that boasteth, however, in the Lord, let him boast;18 For, not he that commendeth himself, he, is approved, but he whom, the Lord, doth commend.

1 Além disso, eu, Paulo, vos rogo, pela mansidão e benignidade de Cristo, eu que, na verdade, quando presente entre vós, sou humilde, mas ausente, ousado para convosco; 2 rogo-vos, pois, que, quando estiver presente, não me veja obrigado a usar com confiança da ousadia que espero ter com alguns que nos julgam como se andássemos segundo a carne. 3 Porque, andando na carne, não militamos segundo a carne. 4 Porque as armas da nossa milícia não são carnais, mas, sim, poderosas em Deus, para destruição das fortalezas; 5 destruindo os conselhos e toda altivez que se levanta contra o conhecimento de Deus, e levando cativo todo entendimento à obediência de Cristo, 6 e estando prontos para vingar toda desobediência, quando for cumprida a vossa obediência.

7 Olhais para as coisas segundo a aparência? Se alguém confia de si mesmo que é de Cristo, pense outra vez isto consigo: assim como ele é de Cristo, também nós de Cristo somos. 8 Porque, ainda que eu me glorie mais alguma coisa do nosso poder, o qual o Senhor nos deu para edificação e não para vossa destruição, não me envergonharei, 9 para que não pareça como se quisera intimidar-vos por cartas. 10 Porque as suas cartas, dizem, são graves e fortes, mas a presença do corpo é fraca, e a palavra, desprezível. 11 Pense o tal isto: quais somos na palavra por cartas, estando ausentes, tais seremos também por obra, estando presentes. 12 Porque não ousamos classificar-nos ou comparar-nos com alguns que se louvam a si mesmos; mas esses que se medem a si mesmos e se comparam consigo mesmos estão sem entendimento.

13 Porém não nos gloriaremos fora de medida, mas conforme a reta medida que Deus nos deu, para chegarmos até vós; 14 porque não nos estendemos além do que convém, como se não houvéssemos de chegar até vós, pois já chegamos também até vós no evangelho de Cristo; 15 não nos gloriando fora de medida nos trabalhos alheios; antes, tendo esperança de que, crescendo a vossa fé, seremos abundantemente engrandecidos entre vós, conforme a nossa regra, 16 para anunciar o evangelho nos lugares que estão além de vós e não em campo de outrem, para nos não gloriarmos no que estava já preparado. 17 Aquele, porém, que se gloria, glorie-se no Senhor. 18 Porque não é aprovado quem a si mesmo se louva, mas, sim, aquele a quem o Senhor louva.
