1 I exhort you, therefore, I, the prisoner in the Lord, to walk in a manner worthy of the calling wherewith ye were called:2 With all lowliness and meekness, with long suffering, bearing one with another in love,3 Giving diligence to keepthe oneness of the Spirit in the uniting-bond of peace,4 One body, and one spirit, even as ye were also called in one hope of your calling,5 One Lord, one faith, one immersion,6 One God and Father of allwho is over all, and through all, and in all.7 To each one of you, however, hath favour been given, according to the measure of the free-gift of the Christ;8 Wherefore he saithAscending on high, he took captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.9 Now this, He ascended; what is it,savethat he also descended into the under parts of the earth?10 He that descended, he, it is who also ascended over-above all the heavens, that he might fill all things;11 And, he, gavesome, indeed, to be apostles, and some, prophets, and some, evangelists, and some, shepherds and teachers,12 With a view to the fitting of the saints for the work of ministering, for an upbuilding of the body of the Christ;13 Until we all advanceinto the oneness of the faith, and the personal knowledge of the Son of God, into a man of full-growth, into the measure of the stature of the fulness of the Christ;14 That we may, no longer, be infantsbillow-tossed and shifted round with every wind of teaching,in the craft of men, in knavery suited to the artifice of error;15 But, pursuing truthmay, in love, grow into him in all things,who is the head, Christ,16 Out of whom all the bodyfitly framing itself together, and connecting itself, through means of every joint of supply, by way of energising in the measure of each single partsecureth the growing of the body, unto an upbuilding of itself in love.17 This, therefore, am I saying and protesting in the Lord:that, no longer, ye walk even as, the nations, walkin the vanity of their minds,18 Being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of Godby reason of the ignorance that existeth within them, by reason of their hearts being turned into stone,19 Who, indeed, having become past feeling, have delivered, themselves, up, with wantonness, unto making a trade of all impurity with greed.20 Ye, however, have, not thus, learned the Christ:21 If, at least, it is, him, ye have heard, and, in him, ye have been taughteven as truth is in Jesus,22 That ye were to strip offas regardeth the former behaviourthe old man, who corrupteth himself according to his deceitful covetings,23 And were to be getting young again in the spirit of your mind,24 And were to put on the man of new mould, who, after God, hath been created in his truthful righteousness and loving kindness.25 Wherefore, stripping off what is false, be speaking truth each one with his neighbour, because we are members one of another;26 Be ye angry, and not committing sin, let not the sun be going down upon your angry mood,27 Neither be giving place unto the adversary;28 Let, the stealer, no more, steal, but rather let him be toiling,working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have to be giving away to him that hath need;29 Let, no putrid discourse, out of your mouth, be going forth, but if anything is goodsuited to the needful upbuilding,that it may give benefit unto them that hear;30 And be not grieving the Holy Spirit of God, wherewith ye have been sealed unto a day of redemption;31 All bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and outcry, and profane speaking, let it be taken away from you, with all baseness;32 And be ye gracious one to another, tenderly affectionate, in favour forgiving one anothereven as, God also, in Christ, hath in favour forgiven you;

1 Rogo-vos, pois, eu, o preso do Senhor, que andeis como é digno da vocação com que fostes chamados, 2 com toda a humildade e mansidão, com longanimidade, suportando-vos uns aos outros em amor, 3 procurando guardar a unidade do Espírito pelo vínculo da paz: 4 há um só corpo e um só Espírito, como também fostes chamados em uma só esperança da vossa vocação; 5 um só Senhor, uma só fé, um só batismo; 6 um só Deus e Pai de todos, o qual é sobre todos, e por todos, e em todos.

7 Mas a graça foi dada a cada um de nós segundo a medida do dom de Cristo. 8 Pelo que diz: Subindo ao alto, levou cativo o cativeiro e deu dons aos homens.

9 Ora, isto — ele subiu — que é, senão que também, antes, tinha descido às partes mais baixas da terra? 10 Aquele que desceu é também o mesmo que subiu acima de todos os céus, para cumprir todas as coisas. 11 E ele mesmo deu uns para apóstolos, e outros para profetas, e outros para evangelistas, e outros para pastores e doutores, 12 querendo o aperfeiçoamento dos santos, para a obra do ministério, para edificação do corpo de Cristo, 13 até que todos cheguemos à unidade da fé e ao conhecimento do Filho de Deus, a varão perfeito, à medida da estatura completa de Cristo, 14 para que não sejamos mais meninos inconstantes, levados em roda por todo vento de doutrina, pelo engano dos homens que, com astúcia, enganam fraudulosamente. 15 Antes, seguindo a verdade em amor, cresçamos em tudo naquele que é a cabeça, Cristo, 16 do qual todo o corpo, bem-ajustado e ligado pelo auxílio de todas as juntas, segundo a justa operação de cada parte, faz o aumento do corpo, para sua edificação em amor.

17 E digo isto e testifico no Senhor, para que não andeis mais como andam também os outros gentios, na vaidade do seu sentido, 18 entenebrecidos no entendimento, separados da vida de Deus, pela ignorância que há neles, pela dureza do seu coração, 19 os quais, havendo perdido todo o sentimento, se entregaram à dissolução, para, com avidez, cometerem toda impureza. 20 Mas vós não aprendestes assim a Cristo, 21 se é que o tendes ouvido e nele fostes ensinados, como está a verdade em Jesus, 22 que, quanto ao trato passado, vos despojeis do velho homem, que se corrompe pelas concupiscências do engano, 23 e vos renoveis no espírito do vosso sentido, 24 e vos revistais do novo homem, que, segundo Deus, é criado em verdadeira justiça e santidade.

25 Pelo que deixai a mentira e falai a verdade cada um com o seu próximo; porque somos membros uns dos outros. 26 Irai-vos e não pequeis; não se ponha o sol sobre a vossa ira. 27 Não deis lugar ao diabo. 28 Aquele que furtava não furte mais; antes, trabalhe, fazendo com as mãos o que é bom, para que tenha o que repartir com o que tiver necessidade. 29 Não saia da vossa boca nenhuma palavra torpe, mas só a que for boa para promover a edificação, para que dê graça aos que a ouvem. 30 E não entristeçais o Espírito Santo de Deus, no qual estais selados para o Dia da redenção. 31 Toda amargura, e ira, e cólera, e gritaria, e blasfêmias, e toda malícia seja tirada de entre vós. 32 Antes, sede uns para com os outros benignos, misericordiosos, perdoando-vos uns aos outros, como também Deus vos perdoou em Cristo.
