1 And the lot for the tribe of Manasseh was, for, he, was the firstborn of Joseph,as for Machir, the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because, he, was a man of war, therefore had he Gilead and Bashan.2 So the lot pertained to the rest of the sons of Manasseh, by their families, to the sons of Abiezer, and to the sons of Helek, and to the sons of Asriel, and to the sons of Shechem, and to the sons of Hepher, and to the sons of Shemida,these, were the sons of Manasseh, son of Joseph, even the male descendants, by their families.3 But, Zelophehad, son of Hepher, son of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh, had no sons, but only daughters,and, these, are the names of his daughters, Mahlah and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.4 And they had come near, before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Yahweh, commanded Moses, to give us an inheritance in the midst of our brethren,And he had given them, according to the bidding of Yahweh, an inheritance, in the midst of the brethren of their father.5 Thus there fell ten portions to Manasseh,besides the land of Gilead, and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;6 because, the daughters of Manasseh, received an inheritance in the midst of his sons,and, the land of Gilead, became the possession of the sons of Manasseh that remained.7 So then the boundary of Manasseh was from Asher, Michmethath, which faceth Shechem,and the boundary goeth along unto the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.8 Manasseh, had the land of Tappuah,but, Tappuah itself, towards the boundary of Manasseh, pertained unto the sons of Ephraim;9 and the boundary goeth down to the ravine of Kanah, southward of the ravine, these cities, belong to Ephraim, in the midst of the cities of Manasseh,but, the boundary of Manasseh, was on the north side of the ravine, and the extensions thereof were to the sea;10 southward, pertaineth to Ephraim, and, northward, to Manasseh, and the sea was the boundary thereof,and they touch, Asher, on the north, and Issachar on the east.11 And Manasseh hadin Issachar and in AsherBethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her townsthe three heights,12 The sons of Manasseh, however, could not dispossess these cities,but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;13 but, when the sons of Israel had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute,though they, dispossessed, them not.14 Then spake the sons of Joseph unto Joshua, saying,Why hast thou given me, as an inheritance, but one lot and one portion, seeing that, I, am a numerous people, because hitherto hath Yahweh blessed me.15 And Joshua said unto them: If, a numerous people, thou art, get thee up to the forest, and cut down for thyself there, in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim,seeing that, too narrow for thee, is the hill country of Ephraim.16 And the sons of Joseph said, The hill country is not enough for us,and there are, chariots of iron, among all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley, belonging both to them in Bethshean, and her towns, and to them in the valley of Jezreel.17 And Joshua made answer unto the house of Joseph, to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying,A numerous people, thou art, and, great vigour, thou hast, thou shalt not have one lot only;18 for, the hill country, shall be thine, in that, a forest, it is, therefore canst thou cut it down, and thine shall be the extensions thereof,for thou shalt dispossess the Canaanites, though, chariots of iron, they have, and though, strong, they are.

Maquir, o primogênito de Manassés, pai de Gileade, porquanto era homem de guerra, teve a Gileade e Basã. 2 Também os mais filhos de Manassés tiveram a sua parte, segundo as suas famílias, a saber, os filhos de Abiezer, e os filhos de Heleque, e os filhos de Asriel, e os filhos de Siquém, e os filhos de Héfer, e os filhos de Semida; estes são os filhos varões de Manassés, filho de José, segundo as suas famílias. 3 Zelofeade, porém, filho de Héfer, o filho de Gileade, filho de Maquir, o filho de Manassés, não teve filhos, mas só filhas; e estes são os nomes de suas filhas: Macla, Noa, Hogla, Milca e Tirza. 4 Estas, pois, chegaram diante de Eleazar, o sacerdote, e diante de Josué, filho de Num, e diante dos príncipes, dizendo: O Senhor ordenou a Moisés que se nos desse herança no meio de nossos irmãos. Pelo que, conforme o dito do Senhor, lhes deu herança no meio dos irmãos de seu pai. 5 E couberam a Manassés dez quinhões, afora a terra de Gileade e Basã, que está dalém do Jordão; 6 porque as filhas de Manassés no meio de seus filhos possuíram herança; e a terra de Gileade tiveram os outros filhos de Manassés. 7 E o termo de Manassés foi desde Aser até Micmetate, que está diante de Siquém; e ia este termo, à mão direita, até aos moradores de En-Tapua. 8 Tinha Manassés a terra de Tapua; porém Tapua, no termo de Manassés, a tinham os filhos de Efraim. 9 Então, descia este termo ao ribeiro de Caná; para o sul do ribeiro, de Efraim eram estas cidades no meio das cidades de Manassés; e o termo de Manassés estava ao norte do ribeiro, sendo as suas saídas no mar. 10 Efraim ao sul, e Manassés ao norte, e o mar era o seu termo; pelo norte tocavam em Aser e, pelo oriente, em Issacar. 11 Porque em Issacar e em Aser tinha Manassés a Bete-Seã e os lugares da sua jurisdição, e Ibleão e os lugares da sua jurisdição, e os habitantes de Dor e os lugares da sua jurisdição, e os habitantes de En-Dor e os lugares da sua jurisdição, e os habitantes de Taanaque e os lugares da sua jurisdição, e os habitantes de Megido e os lugares da sua jurisdição: três comarcas. 12 E os filhos de Manassés não puderam expelir os habitantes daquelas cidades, porquanto os cananeus queriam habitar na mesma terra. 13 E sucedeu que, engrossando em forças os filhos de Israel, fizeram tributários aos cananeus, porém não os expeliram de todo.

14 Então, os filhos de José falaram a Josué, dizendo: Por que me deste por herança só uma sorte e um quinhão, sendo eu um tão grande povo, visto que o Senhor até aqui me tem abençoado? 15 E disse-lhes Josué: Se tão grande povo és, sobe ao bosque e corta para ti ali lugar na terra dos ferezeus e dos refains, pois que as montanhas de Efraim te são tão estreitas. 16 Então, disseram os filhos de José: As montanhas nos não bastariam; também carros ferrados há entre todos os cananeus que habitam na terra do vale, entre os de Bete-Seã e os lugares da sua jurisdição e entre os que estão no vale de Jezreel. 17 Então, Josué falou à casa de José, a Efraim e a Manassés, dizendo: Grande povo és e grande força tens; uma só sorte não terás; 18 porém as montanhas serão tuas; e, pois que bosque é, corta-o, e as suas saídas serão tuas; porque expelirás os cananeus, ainda que tenham carros ferrados, ainda que sejam fortes.
