1 And it came to pass, after many days, when Yahweh had given rest unto Israel, from all their enemies round about,and, Joshua, had become old, advanced in days,2 that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers,and said unto them, I, am old, advanced in days;3 but, ye, have seenall that Yahweh your God hath done unto all those nations, because of you,for, Yahweh your God, is he that hath fought for you.4 Behold, I have allotted to you these nations which remain, as an inheritance, for your tribes,from the Jordan, and all the nations which I have cut off, even unto the great sea, at the going in of the sun.5 But, Yahweh your Godhe, will thrust them out from before you, and drive them away out of your sight,so shall ye possess their land, as Yahweh your God spoke unto you.6 Therefore must ye be very firm to observe and to do all that is written in the scroll of the law of Moses,so as not to turn aside therefrom, to the right hand or to the left;7 so as not to go in among these nations, these which remain with you,and, with the name of their gods, shall ye neither make memorial nor put on oath, and neither serve them,nor bow down to them.8 But, unto Yahweh your God, must ye cleave,as, ye have done until this day;9 therefore hath Yahweh dispossessed, from before you, nations great and strong,but, as for you, not a man hath stood before you, until this day.10 One man of you, can chase a thousand,for, Yahweh your God, is he that fighteth for you, as he spake to you.11 Take diligent heed, therefore, unto your souls,to love Yahweh your God.12 But, if ye, do in any wise turn back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, these which remain with you,and intermarry with them, and go in with them, and, they, with you;13 know, that Yahweh your God will no further drive out these nations from before you,but they will become unto you a snare and a hook, and a goad in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye have perished from off this goodly soil, which Yahweh your God hath given unto you.14 But lo! I am going to-day, in the way of all the earth,ye must acknowledge, therefore, with all your heart and with all your soul, that there hath not failed a single thing, out of all the good things which Yahweh your God spake concerning you, the whole, hath come to pass to you, there hath not failed thereof, a single thing.15 But it shall be that, as all the good things have come unto you, which Yahweh your God spake unto you, so, will Yahweh bring upon you all the evil things, until he hath destroyed you from off this goodly soil, which Yahweh your God hath given unto you.16 When ye transgress the covenant of Yahweh your God which he hath commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow yourselves down unto them, then will the anger of Yahweh kindle upon you, and ye will perish quickly, from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

1 E sucedeu que, muitos dias depois que o Senhor dera repouso a Israel de todos os seus inimigos em redor, e Josué já fosse velho e entrado em dias, 2 chamou Josué a todo o Israel, aos seus anciãos, e aos seus cabeças, e aos seus juízes, e aos seus oficiais e disse-lhes: Eu já sou velho e entrado em dias; 3 e vós já tendes visto tudo quanto o Senhor, vosso Deus, fez a todas estas nações por causa de vós, porque o Senhor, vosso Deus, é o que pelejou por vós. 4 Vedes aqui que vos fiz cair em sorte às vossas tribos estas nações que ficam desde o Jordão, com todas as nações que tenho destruído, até ao mar Grande para o pôr do sol. 5 E o Senhor, vosso Deus, as impelirá de diante de vós e as expelirá de diante de vós; e vós possuireis a sua terra, como o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos tem dito. 6 Esforçai-vos, pois, muito para guardardes e para fazerdes tudo quanto está escrito no livro da Lei de Moisés, para que dela não vos aparteis, nem para a direita nem para a esquerda; 7 para que não entreis a estas nações que ainda ficaram convosco; e dos nomes de seus deuses não façais menção, nem por eles façais jurar, nem os sirvais, nem a eles vos inclineis. 8 Mas ao Senhor, vosso Deus, vos achegareis, como fizestes até ao dia de hoje; 9 pois o Senhor expeliu de diante de vós grandes e numerosas nações; e, quanto a vós, ninguém ficou em pé diante de vós até ao dia de hoje. 10 Um só homem dentre vós perseguirá a mil, pois é o mesmo Senhor, vosso Deus, o que peleja por vós, como já vos tem dito. 11 Portanto, guardai muito a vossa alma, para amardes ao Senhor, vosso Deus. 12 Porque, se dalguma maneira vos apartardes, e vos achegardes ao resto destas nações que ainda ficou convosco, e com elas vos aparentardes, e vós a elas entrardes, e elas a vós, 13 sabei, certamente, que o Senhor, vosso Deus, não continuará mais a expelir estas nações de diante de vós, mas vos serão por laço, e rede, e açoite às vossas costas, e espinhos aos vossos olhos; até que pereçais desta boa terra que vos deu o Senhor, vosso Deus.

14 E eis aqui eu vou, hoje, pelo caminho de toda a terra; e vós bem sabeis, com todo o vosso coração e com toda a vossa alma que nem uma só palavra caiu de todas as boas palavras que falou de vós o Senhor, vosso Deus; todas vos sobrevieram, nem delas caiu uma só palavra. 15 E será que, assim como sobre vós vieram todas estas boas coisas, que o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos disse, assim trará o Senhor sobre vós todas aquelas más coisas, até vos destruir de sobre a boa terra que vos deu o Senhor, vosso Deus. 16 Quando traspassardes o concerto do Senhor, vosso Deus, que vos tem ordenado, e fordes, e servirdes a outros deuses, e a eles vos inclinardes, então, a ira do Senhor sobre vós se acenderá, e logo perecereis de sobre a boa terra que vos deu.
