1 Furthermore Elihu responded, and said:2 Hear, ye wise men, my words, and, ye who know, give ear unto me;3 For, the ear, trieth words, as, the palate, tasteth in eating.4 What is right, let us choose for ourselves, Let us know, among ourselves, what is good;5 For Job hath saidI am righteous, But, GOD, hath turned away my right;6 Concerning mine own right, shall I tell a falsehood? Incurable is my diseasenot for any transgression.7 What man is like Job? He drinketh in scoffing like water;8 And is on the way to keep company, with the workers of iniquity, and to walk with lawless men.9 For he hath said, It profiteth not a man, when, his good pleasure, is with God.10 Wherefore, ye men of mind, hearken unto me,Far be it, that, GOD, should be lawless, or, the Almighty, be perverse!11 For, what any son of earth doeth, he repayeth him, and, according to every mans course, he causeth him to find.12 Nay, verily, GOD, will not condemn unjustly,nor, the Almighty, pervert justice.13 Who set him in charge of the earth? Or who appointed the whole world?14 If he should set against him his heart, His spirit and his inspiration, unto himself he should withdraw.15 All flesh together, would cease to breathe, and, the earth-born, unto dust, would return.16 If then understanding, hear this, Give thou ear to the teaching of my words:17 Shall, the very hater of right, control? Or, the justthe mighty one, wilt thou condemn?18 Doth one say to a king, Abandoned one! Or, Lawless one! unto nobles?19 For he hath shewn no respect of persons unto princes, neither hath he recognised the rich rather than the poor? For, the work of his hands, are they all.20 In a moment, they die, even in the middle of the night,A people are convulsed when they pass away, A mighty one is removed, without hand;21 For, his eyes, are on the ways of a man, and, all his footsteps, he beholdeth,22 No darkness, and no death-shade, where the workers of iniquity may hide.23 For, unto no man, doth he appoint a repetition,in going unto GOD in judgment;24 He shattereth mighty ones unsearchably, and setteth up others in their stead:25 Therefore, he observeth their works,and overturneth in a night, and they are crushed;26 In the place of lawless men, hath he chastised them, in presence of beholders.27 Forasmuch, as they turned from following him, and, none of his ways, did they teach;28 Causing to reach him the outcry of the poor, Yea, the outcry of the oppressed, he heareth.29 When, he, giveth quiet, who then shall condemn? And, when he hideth face, who then shall sing of him? whether unto a nation or unto mankind altogether,30 That impious men may not reign, nor be ensnarers of the people.31 For, unto GOD, hath one saidI have borne punishment, I will not be perverse;32 What I see not, do, thou, shew me, If, perverseness, I have wrought, I will do it no more?33 According to thy mind, must he requite it, that thou hast refused? For, thou, must choose, and not, I, What then thou knowest, speak!34 The men of mind, will say to me, yea any wise man hearkening unto me:35 Job, without knowledge, doth speak, and, his words, are not with discretion.36 Would that Job might be tested to the uttermost, for replying with the men of iniquity:37 For he addethunto his sinrebellion, In our midst, he clappeth his hands, and multiplieth his sayings against GOD.

1 Respondeu mais Eliú e disse: 2 Ouvi vós, sábios, as minhas razões; e vós, instruídos, inclinai os ouvidos para mim. 3 Porque o ouvido prova as palavras como o paladar prova a comida. 4 O que é direito escolhamos para nós; e conheçamos entre nós o que é bom. 5 Porque Jó disse: Sou justo, e Deus tirou o meu direito. 6 Apesar do meu direito, sou considerado mentiroso; a minha ferida é incurável, embora eu esteja sem transgressão.

7 Que homem há como Jó, que bebe a zombaria como água? 8 E caminha em companhia dos que praticam a iniquidade, e anda com homens ímpios? 9 Porque disse: De nada aproveita ao homem o comprazer-se em Deus.

10 Pelo que vós, homens de entendimento, escutai-me: longe de Deus a impiedade, e do Todo-Poderoso, a perversidade! 11 Porque, segundo a obra do homem, ele lhe paga; e faz que cada um ache segundo o seu caminho. 12 Também, na verdade, Deus não procede impiamente; nem o Todo-Poderoso perverte o juízo. 13 Quem lhe entregou o governo da terra? E quem dispôs a todo o mundo? 14 Se ele pusesse o seu coração contra o homem, e recolhesse para si o seu espírito e o seu fôlego, 15 toda a carne juntamente expiraria, e o homem voltaria para o pó.

16 Se, pois, há em ti entendimento, ouve isto; inclina os ouvidos à voz do meu discurso. 17 Porventura, o que aborrecesse o direito governaria? E quererás tu condenar aquele que é justo e poderoso? 18 Ou dir-se-á a um rei: Oh! Belial? Ou, aos príncipes: Oh! Ímpios? 19 Quanto menos àquele que não faz acepção da pessoa de príncipes, nem estima o rico mais do que o pobre; porque todos são obra de suas mãos. 20 Eles, num momento, morrem; e, até à meia-noite, os povos são perturbados e passam, e os poderosos são tomados sem mão.

21 Porque os olhos de Deus estão sobre os caminhos de cada um, e ele vê todos os seus passos. 22 Não há trevas nem sombra de morte onde se escondam os que praticam a iniquidade. 23 Porque não precisa considerar muito no homem para o fazer ir a juízo diante de Deus. 24 Ele quebranta os fortes, sem que se possa inquirir, e põe outros em seu lugar. 25 Ele conhece, pois, as suas obras; de noite, os transtorna, e ficam moídos. 26 Ele bate-lhes como ímpios que são à vista de quem os contempla; 27 porquanto se desviaram dele, e não compreenderam nenhum de seus caminhos, 28 para fazer que o clamor do pobre subisse até ele, e que ouvisse o clamor dos aflitos. 29 Se ele aquietar, quem, então, inquietará? Se encobrir o rosto, quem, então, o poderá contemplar, seja para com um povo, seja para com um homem só? 30 Para que o homem hipócrita nunca mais reine, e não haja laços no povo.

31 Na verdade, quem disse a Deus: Sofri, não pecarei mais; 32 o que não vejo, ensina-mo tu; se fiz alguma maldade, nunca mais a hei de fazer? 33 Virá de ti como há de ser a recompensa, para que tu a desprezes? Faze tu, pois, e não eu, a escolha; que é, logo, o que sabes? Fala!

34 Os homens de entendimento dirão comigo, e o varão sábio, que me ouvir: 35 Jó falou sem ciência; e às suas palavras falta prudência. 36 Pai meu! Provado seja Jó até ao fim, pelas suas respostas próprias de homens malignos. 37 Porque ao seu pecado acrescenta a transgressão; entre nós bate as palmas e multiplica contra Deus as suas razões.
