1 "At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time; but at that time your people shall be delivered, every one whose name shall be found written in the book.2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.3 And those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.4 But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."5 Then I Daniel looked, and behold, two others stood, one on this bank of the stream and one on that bank of the stream.6 And I said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, "How long shall it be till the end of these wonders?"7 The man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven; and I heard him swear by him who lives for ever that it would be for a time, two times, and half a time; and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end all these things would be accomplished.8 I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, "O my lord, what shall be the issue of these things?"9 He said, "Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end.10 Many shall purify themselves, and make themselves white, and be refined; but the wicked shall do wickedly; and none of the wicked shall understand; but those who are wise shall understand.11 And from the time that the continual burnt offering is taken away, and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.12 Blessed is he who waits and comes to the thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.13 But go your way till the end; and you shall rest, and shall stand in your allotted place at the end of the days."

1 E o anjo continuou, dizendo:

— Nesse tempo, aparecerá o anjo Miguel, o protetor do povo de Deus. Será um tempo de grandes dificuldades, como nunca aconteceu desde que as nações existem. Mas nesse tempo serão salvos todos os do povo de Deus que tiverem os seus nomes escritos no livro de Deus. 2 Muitos dos que já tiverem morrido viverão de novo: uns terão a vida eterna, e outros sofrerão o castigo eterno e a desgraça eterna. 3 Os mestres sábios, aqueles que ensinaram muitas pessoas a fazer o que é certo, brilharão como as estrelas do céu, com um brilho que nunca se apagará. 4 E você, Daniel, não conte nada disso a ninguém. Feche o livro com um selo para que fique fechado até o momento final. Muitos correrão de cá para lá, procurando ficar mais sábios.

5 Então eu vi dois anjos de pé na beira do rio, um de um lado, e o outro do outro. 6 Um deles perguntou ao anjo vestido com roupas de linho, que estava rio acima:

— Quando é que todas essas coisas maravilhosas vão acontecer?

7 O anjo levantou as mãos para o céu e em nome de Deus, que vive para sempre, disse:

— Eu juro que tudo isso vai acontecer daqui a três anos e meio quando terminar a perseguição do povo de Deus.

8 Mas eu não entendi bem e por isso perguntei:

— Por favor, me diga como é que tudo isso vai acabar.

9 E ele respondeu:

— Agora, Daniel, você pode ir embora, pois tudo isso deve ficar em segredo até o fim. 10 Muitos serão postos à prova, e com isso se purificarão, e se aperfeiçoarão. Os maus continuarão na sua maldade, e nenhum deles entenderá o que está acontecendo, mas os sábios entenderão. 11 Depois que os sacrifícios diários forem suspensos, e o "grande terror" for colocado no Templo, passarão mil duzentos e noventa dias. 12 Felizes aqueles que continuarem fiéis a Deus por mil trezentos e trinta e cinco dias!

13 — E você, Daniel, continue firme até o fim. Você morrerá, mas no fim ressuscitará para receber a sua recompensa.
