1 And the LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the priests, the sons of Aaron, and say to them that none of them shall defile himself for the dead among his people,2 except for his nearest of kin, his mother, his father, his son, his daughter, his brother,3 or his virgin sister (who is near to him because she has had no husband; for her he may defile himself).4 He shall not defile himself as a husband among his people and so profane himself.5 They shall not make tonsures upon their heads, nor shave off the edges of their beards, nor make any cuttings in their flesh.6 They shall be holy to their God, and not profane the name of their God; for they offer the offerings by fire to the LORD, the bread of their God; therefore they shall be holy.7 They shall not marry a harlot or a woman who has been defiled; neither shall they marry a woman divorced from her husband; for the priest is holy to his God.8 You shall consecrate him, for he offers the bread of your God; he shall be holy to you; for I the LORD, who sanctify you, am holy.9 And the daughter of any priest, if she profanes herself by playing the harlot, profanes her father; she shall be burned with fire.10 "The priest who is chief among his brethren, upon whose head the anointing oil is poured, and who has been consecrated to wear the garments, shall not let the hair of his head hang loose, nor rend his clothes;11 he shall not go in to any dead body, nor defile himself, even for his father or for his mother;12 neither shall he go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God; for the consecration of the anointing oil of his God is upon him: I am the LORD.13 And he shall take a wife in her virginity.14 A widow, or one divorced, or a woman who has been defiled, or a harlot, these he shall not marry; but he shall take to wife a virgin of his own people,15 that he may not profane his children among his people; for I am the LORD who sanctify him."16 And the LORD said to Moses,17 "Say to Aaron, None of your descendants throughout their generations who has a blemish may approach to offer the bread of his God.18 For no one who has a blemish shall draw near, a man blind or lame, or one who has a mutilated face or a limb too long,19 or a man who has an injured foot or an injured hand,20 or a hunchback, or a dwarf, or a man with a defect in his sight or an itching disease or scabs or crushed testicles;21 no man of the descendants of Aaron the priest who has a blemish shall come near to offer the LORD's offerings by fire; since he has a blemish, he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God.22 He may eat the bread of his God, both of the most holy and of the holy things,23 but he shall not come near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a blemish, that he may not profane my sanctuaries; for I am the LORD who sanctify them."24 So Moses spoke to Aaron and to his sons and to all the people of Israel.

1 O Senhor Deus mandou Moisés dizer o seguinte aos sacerdotes, que são descendentes de Arão:

— Que nenhum sacerdote fique impuro por tocar no corpo de um parente morto, 2 a não ser no caso de parentes chegados, isto é, a mãe, o pai, o filho, a filha, o irmão 3 ou a irmã solteira que more com ele. 4 Que ele não fique impuro por causa da morte de uma irmã casada.

5 — Os sacerdotes não podem rapar a cabeça, aparar a barba ou cortar-se em sinal de luto. 6 Eles serão completamente fiéis ao seu Deus e não deverão profanar o nome de Deus. Eles apresentam os sacrifícios que são ofertas de alimento para Deus, o Senhor; portanto, devem ser fiéis a Deus. 7 Eles são separados para o serviço de Deus e por isso não podem casar com uma prostituta ou com uma mulher que não seja virgem ou com uma mulher divorciada. 8 O sacerdote apresenta a Deus as ofertas de alimento, e por isso o povo deve considerá-lo santo. Eu, o Senhor, sou santo e escolhi o povo de Israel para que seja santo .

9 — Se a filha de um sacerdote se desonrar, virando prostituta, ela estará envergonhando o pai e deverá ser queimada viva.

10 — O Grande Sacerdote foi ordenado como sacerdote quando o azeite sagrado foi derramado na sua cabeça e quando vestiu as roupas sacerdotais; por isso ele não deve deixar de pentear os cabelos e não deve rasgar as roupas em sinal de luto. 11 Ele não pode tocar num morto, mesmo que seja o seu pai ou a sua mãe. Isso o tornaria impuro, 12 e, quando entrasse de novo na Tenda Sagrada, ele a tornaria impura. Eu sou o Senhor. 13 O Grande Sacerdote só poderá casar com uma virgem; 14 ele não pode casar com uma viúva, ou uma mulher divorciada, ou uma prostituta, ou qualquer outra mulher que não seja virgem. Ele pode casar somente com uma virgem israelita 15 a fim de que os seus descendentes sejam puros. Eu sou o Senhor, e eu o ordenei como sacerdote.

16 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés o seguinte:

17 — Diga a Arão que nenhum descendente dele que tiver algum defeito físico poderá me apresentar as ofertas de alimento. Essa lei valerá para sempre. 18 Nenhum homem com defeito físico poderá apresentar as ofertas: seja cego, aleijado, com defeito no rosto ou com o corpo deformado; 19 ninguém com uma perna ou braço quebrado; 20 ninguém que seja corcunda ou anão; ninguém que tenha doença nos olhos ou que tenha sarna ou outra doença da pele; e ninguém que seja castrado. 21 Nenhum descendente do sacerdote Arão que tiver algum defeito poderá me apresentar as ofertas de alimento; se ele for defeituoso, estará proibido de oferecer o meu alimento. 22 Esse homem poderá comer dessas ofertas, tanto as que são sagradas como as que são muito sagradas; 23 mas ele não poderá chegar perto da cortina do Lugar Santíssimo, nem chegar perto do altar, pois tem um defeito e tornaria impuras essas duas coisas. Eu sou o Senhor, e eu as dediquei a mim.

24 Foi isso o que Moisés disse a Arão, aos filhos de Arão e a todo o povo de Israel.
