1 Und da er vorbeiging, sah er einen Menschen, der blind war von Geburt an. 2 Und seine Jünger fragten ihn und sprachen: Rabbi, wer hat gesündigt, dieser oder seine Eltern, daß er blind geboren ist? 3 Jesus antwortete: Weder dieser hat gesündigt, noch seine Eltern; sondern damit die Werke Gottes an ihm offenbar würden! 4 Ich muß die Werke dessen wirken, der mich gesandt hat, solange es Tag ist; es kommt die Nacht, wo niemand wirken kann. 5 Solange ich in der Welt bin, bin ich das Licht der Welt. 6 Als er solches gesagt, spie er auf die Erde und machte einen Teig mit dem Speichel und strich ihm den Teig auf die Augen 7 und sprach zu ihm: Gehe hin, wasche dich im Teiche Siloah (das heißt übersetzt: Gesandt)! Da ging er hin und wusch sich und kam sehend. 8 Die Nachbarn nun, und die ihn zuvor als Bettler gesehen hatten, sprachen: Ist das nicht der, welcher dasaß und bettelte? 9 Etliche sagten: Er ist’s! andere aber: Nein, aber er sieht ihm ähnlich! Er selbst sagte: Ich bin’s! 10 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wie sind dir deine Augen aufgetan worden? 11 Er antwortete und sprach: Der Mensch, der Jesus heißt, machte einen Teig und bestrich meine Augen und sprach zu mir: Gehe hin zum Teich Siloah und wasche dich! Als ich aber hinging und mich wusch, wurde ich sehend. 12 Da sprachen sie zu ihm: Wo ist der? Er spricht: Ich weiß es nicht! 13 Da führten sie ihn, den Blindgewesenen, zu den Pharisäern. 14 Es war aber Sabbat, als Jesus den Teig machte und ihm die Augen öffnete. 15 Nun fragten ihn wiederum auch die Pharisäer, wie er sehend geworden sei. Er sprach zu ihnen: Einen Teig hat er auf meine Augen gelegt, und ich wusch mich und bin nun sehend! 16 Da sprachen etliche von den Pharisäern: Dieser Mensch ist nicht von Gott, weil er den Sabbat nicht hält! Andere sprachen: Wie kann ein sündiger Mensch solche Zeichen tun? Und es entstand eine Spaltung unter ihnen. 17 Da sprachen sie wiederum zu dem Blinden: Was sagst du von ihm, daß er dir die Augen aufgetan hat? Er sprach: Er ist ein Prophet! 18 Nun glaubten die Juden nicht von ihm, daß er blind gewesen und sehend geworden sei, bis sie die Eltern des Sehendgewordenen gerufen hatten. 19 Und sie fragten sie und sprachen: Ist das euer Sohn, von welchem ihr sagt, daß er blind geboren ist? Wie ist er denn jetzt sehend? 20 Seine Eltern antworteten ihnen und sprachen: Wir wissen, daß dieser unser Sohn ist und daß er blind geboren ist; 21 wieso er aber jetzt sieht, das wissen wir nicht; und wer ihm die Augen aufgetan hat, wissen wir auch nicht. Fraget ihn! Er ist alt genug, er mag selbst für sich reden! 22 Das sagten seine Eltern deshalb, weil sie die Juden fürchteten; denn die Juden waren schon übereingekommen, daß, wenn einer ihn als den Christus anerkennen würde, er aus der Synagoge ausgestoßen werden solle. 23 Darum sprachen seine Eltern: Er ist alt genug; fragt ihn selbst! 24 Da riefen sie zum zweitenmal den Menschen, der blind gewesen war, und sprachen zu ihm: Gib Gott die Ehre! Wir wissen, daß dieser Mensch ein Sünder ist. 25 Da antwortete jener und sprach: Ob er ein Sünder ist, weiß ich nicht; eins weiß ich, daß ich blind war und jetzt sehend bin! 26 Sie sprachen wiederum zu ihm: Was hat er mit dir gemacht? Wie tat er dir die Augen auf? 27 Er antwortete ihnen: Ich habe es euch schon gesagt, und ihr habt nicht darauf gehört; was wollt ihr es noch einmal hören? Wollt auch ihr seine Jünger werden? 28 Sie schmähten ihn und sprachen: Du bist sein Jünger! Wir aber sind Moses Jünger. 29 Wir wissen, daß Gott mit Mose geredet hat, von diesem aber wissen wir nicht, woher er ist. 30 Da antwortete der Mensch und sprach zu ihnen: Das ist doch verwunderlich, daß ihr nicht wisset, woher er ist, und er hat doch meine Augen aufgetan. 31 Wir wissen, daß Gott nicht auf Sünder hört; sondern wenn jemand gottesfürchtig ist und seinen Willen tut, den hört er. 32 Seit die Welt steht, ist nicht gehört worden, daß jemand einem Blindgeborenen die Augen aufgetan hat. 33 Wäre dieser nicht von Gott, so könnte er nichts tun! 34 Sie antworteten und sprachen zu ihm: Du bist ganz in Sünden geboren und willst uns lehren? Und sie stießen ihn hinaus. 35 Jesus hörte, daß sie ihn ausgestoßen hatten, und als er ihn fand, sprach er zu ihm: Glaubst du an den Sohn Gottes? 36 Er antwortete und sprach: Wer ist es, Herr, auf daß ich an ihn glaube? 37 Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: Du hast ihn gesehen, und der mit dir redet, der ist es! 38 Er aber sprach: Ich glaube, Herr! und fiel vor ihm nieder. 39 Und Jesus sprach: Ich bin zum Gericht in diese Welt gekommen, auf daß die, welche nicht sehen, sehend werden und die, welche sehen, blind werden. 40 Solches hörten etliche der Pharisäer, die bei ihm waren, und sprachen zu ihm: Sind denn auch wir blind? 41 Jesus sprach zu ihnen: Wäret ihr blind, so hättet ihr keine Sünde; nun ihr aber saget: Wir sind sehend! so bleibt eure Sünde.

3 Ka whakahokia e Īhu, "Ehara i te mea ko tēnei kua hara, ko ōna mātua rānei; engari, kia ai ia hei whakakitenga mō ngā mahi a te Atua. 4 Me mahi e tātou ngā mahi a tōku kaitono mai i te mea e ao ana; meāke ko te pō e kore ai e taea he mahi e tētahi tangata. 5 I ahau i te ao nei, ko ahau te mārama o te ao."

6 Ka mutu ēnei kōrero āna, ka tūwha ia ki te whenua, ā, pokepokea ana tētahi paru ki te hūware, pania atu ana te paru ki ngā kanohi o te matapō, 7 nā, ka mea ki a ia, "Haere ki te horoi ki te kaukauranga i Hiroama" (ko Tono te whakamāoritanga). Nā, haere ana ia, horoi ana, ā, hoki titiro ana mai.

8 Nā, ka mea ngā tāngata e noho tata ana, rātou ko ngā tāngata i kite i tōna matapōtanga i mua, "Ehara ianei tēnei i taua tangata i noho rā, i tono mea rā māna?"

9 Ka mea ētahi, "Ko ia tēnei."

Ko ētahi i mea, "Kāhore, engari rite tonu ki a ia te āhua."

Ka mea ia, "Ko ahau rā ia."

10 Kātahi rātou ka mea ki a ia, "Nā te aha rā i kite ai ōu kanohi?"

11 Ka whakahoki ia ka mea, "Nā te tangata, e huaina nei ko Īhu, i pokepoke he paru, pania ana e ia ki ōku kanohi, ka mea mai ki ahau, ‘Haere ki Hiroama horoi ai.’ Nā, ko tōku haerenga atu, ko tāku horoinga, kite ana ahau."

12 Nā, ka mea rātou ki a ia, "Kei hea ia?"

Ka mea ia, "E kore ahau e mōhio."

13 Ka kawea atu ki ngā Parihi taua tangata i matapō i mua rā. 14 Nā, nō te hāpati i pokepokea ai e Īhu te paru, i meinga ai ōna kanohi kia kite. 15 Nā, ka ui anō ngā Parihi ki a ia, ki te pēhea i kite ai ia. Ka mea ia ki a rātou, "I pania e ia he paru ki ōku kanohi, nā, horoi ana ahau, kite ana."

16 Nā, ka mea ētahi o ngā Parihi, "Ehara tēnei i te tangata nā te Atua, inā hoki tē whakarite ia i te hāpati."

Ka mea ētahi, "Mā te aha e taea ai ēnei merekara e te tangata hara?"

Nā, ka wehewehea rātou.

17 Ka mea anō rātou ki te matapō, "E pēhea ana koe ki a ia, ki tāna meatanga i ōu kanohi kia kite?"

Ka mea ia, "He poropiti ia."

18 Heoi, kāhore ngā Hūrai i whakapono i matapō taua tangata, kua meinga anō kia kite, karangatia noatia e rātou ngā mātua ōna i meinga nei kia kite, 19 ā, ka ui rātou ki a rāua, ka mea, "Ko tā kōrua tama tēnei, e mea nei kōrua i whānau matapō mai? Nā te aha rā ia i titiro ai ināianei?"

20 Ka whakahoki ōna mātua ki a rātou, ka mea, "E mōhio ana māua, ko tā māua tama tēnei, i whānau matapō mai anō. 21 Ko te mea ia i kite ai ia ināianei, kāhore i mōhiotia e māua; kāhore hoki māua e mōhio nā wai i mea ōna kanohi kia kite. He kaumātua ia; ui atu ki a ia, māna ia e kōrero." 22 I pēnei ōna mātua, nō te mea i mataku rāua i ngā Hūrai. Kua takoto noa ake hoki tā ngā Hūrai tikanga, nā, ki te whakaae tētahi, ko te Karaiti ia, me pei ki waho o te whare karakia. 23 Koia ōna mātua i mea ai, "He kaumātua ia; ui atu ki a ia."

24 Nā, ka karanga tuarua rātou ki te tangata i matapō i mua rā, ka mea ki a ia, "Hoatu he korōria ki te Atua; e mātau ana mātou he tangata hara tēnei."

25 Nā, ka whakahoki ia, ka mea, "Kāhore ahau e mātau he tangata hara rānei ia; kotahi anō tāku e mātau nei, he matapō ahau i mua, ā, inā kua kite."

26 Ka mea anō rātou ki a ia, "I aha ia ki a koe? I pēheatia ōu kanohi i meinga ai e ia kia kite?"

27 Ka whakahokia e ia ki a rātou, "Kua kōrerotia anō e ahau ki a koutou inā tonu nei, ā, kīhai koutou i whakarongo. He aha koutou i hiahia ai kia rongo anō? E mea ana oti koutou kia meinga hei ākonga māna?"

28 Nā, whakahī ana rātou ki a ia, ka mea, "Ko tāna ākonga koe; ko mātou ia he ākonga nā Mohi. 29 E mātau ana mātou i kōrero te Atua ki a Mohi; ko tēnei tangata ia kāhore mātou e mātau ki tōna wāhi i haere mai ai."

30 Nā, ka whakahoki taua tangata, ka mea ki a rātou, "Ha! He mea whakamīharo rā tēnei kāhore koutou i mātau ki tōna wāhi i haere mai ai, otirā, kua meinga e ia ōku kanohi kia kite. 31 E mātau ana rā tātou, e kore te Atua e whakarongo ki ngā tāngata hara; tēnā ki te mea he tangata karakia tētahi ki te Atua, he mea i tāna e pai ai, ka whakarongo ia ki a ia. 32 Kāhore rawa i rangona nō te tīmatanga rā anō o te ao, i whakatirohia e tētahi ngā kanohi o te tangata i whānau matapō. 33 Ki te mea kīhai i puta mai tēnei tangata i te Atua, e kore e taea e ia tētahi mea."

34 Nā, ka whakahoki rātou, ka mea ki a ia, "I whānau pū koe i roto i ngā hara, ko koe rānei hei whakaako i a mātou?" Nā, peia ana ia e rātou ki waho.

35 I rongo a Īhu kua oti ia te pei e rātou ki waho; ā, i tōna kitenga i a ia, ka mea ki a ia, "E whakapono ana rānei koe ki te Tama a te Atua?"

36 Ka whakahoki ia, ka mea, "Ko wai ia, e te Ariki, kia whakapono ai ahau ki a ia?"

37 Ka mea a Īhu ki a ia, "Kua kite koe i a ia, ko ia hoki tēnei e kōrero nei ki a koe."

38 Nā, ko tāna meatanga, "E te Ariki, e whakapono ana ahau." Nā, koropiko ana ia ki a ia.

39 Kātahi a Īhu ka mea, "I haere mai ahau ki tēnei ao ki te whakarite whakawā, he mea e kite ai te hunga kāhore nei i kite; e whakamatapōtia ai hoki te hunga e kite ana."

40 Ā, ka rangona ēnei mea e ētahi o ngā Parihi e tū tahi ana me ia, ka mea rātou ki a ia, "E matapō ana anō rānei mātou?"

41 Ka mea a Īhu ki a rātou, "Me i matapō koutou, kāhore ō koutou hara. Tēnā ka mea nā koutou, ‘E kite ana mātou’; nā, e mau nā tō koutou hara."
