1 Seja-me permitido, pois, cantar para o meu bem amado, o cântico do meu amado no tocante à sua vinha. O meu bem amado teve uma vinha num alto fertilíssimo.2 Revolveu-a com enxada, e limpou-a das pedras e plantou-a de vides escolhidas, e edificou no meio dela uma torre, e abriu nela um lagar. Ele esperava que desse uvas, mas deu uvas bravas.3 Agora, moradores de Jerusalém e homens de Judá, julgai entre mim e a minha vinha.4 Que havia ainda a fazer à minha vinha, que eu não lhe tenha feito? por que, esperando eu que ela desse uvas, veio a dar uvas bravas?5 Agora, pois, vos direi o que eu hei de fazer à minha vinha: tirar-lhe-ei a sebe, para que sirva de pasto; derrubar-lhe-ei o muro, para que seja pisada:6 e de todo a destruirei. Não será podada nem será revolvida com enxada, mas crescerão nela espinhos e abrolhos. Também às nuvens darei ordem que não derramem chuva sobre ela.7 Pois a vinha de Jeová dos exércitos é a casa de Israel, e os homens de Judá são a sua plantação dileta. Ele esperou a justiça, mas eis aí a opressão; a retidão, mas eis aí o clamor.8 Ai dos que ajuntam casa a casa, achegam campo a campo, até que não haja mais lugar, de modo que habitem sós no meio da terra!9 Aos meus ouvidos diz Jeová dos exércitos: Na verdade muitas casas se tornarão desoladas, sim casas grandes e belas não terão habitadores.10 Pois dez geiras da vinha darão um bato, e um ômer de semente dará apenas uma efa.11 Ai dos que se levantam de manhã cedo para correrem atrás de bebidas fortes, e continuam até alta noite, até que o vinho os esquente!12 O alaúde e a harpa, o tamboril e a flauta e o vinho se acham no seu festim; porém não olham para as obras de Jeová, nem consideram as operações das suas mãos.13 Portanto o meu povo é levado cativo, por lhes faltar conhecimento; os seus homens ilustres são famintos, e a sua multidão seca-se de sede.14 Por isso o Cheol alarga a sua garganta, e abre a sua boca desmesuradamente; para lá desce a glória deles, e o seu tumulto, e o seu arruído, e quem entre eles se regozija.15 Assim o homem é abatido e o varão humilhado, e os olhos dos altivos são humilhados;16 mas Jeová dos exércitos é exaltado pelo juízo, e Deus, o Santo, é santificado pela justiça.17 Então os cordeiros pastarão como no seu pasto, e os nômades apascentarão nos campos abandonados dos ricos.18 Ai dos que puxam a iniqüidade com cordas de impiedade, e o pecado como com tirantes de carro;19 os quais dizem: Apresse-se Deus, avie-se a sua obra, para que a vejamos; chegue-se e venha o conselho do Santo de Israel, para que o conheçamos!20 Ai dos que ao mal chamam bem, e ao bem mal; os quais põem trevas por luz e luz por trevas, e mudam o amargo em doce e o doce em amargo!21 Ai dos que são sábios aos seus próprios olhos, e prudentes em seu conceito!22 Ai dos que são poderosos para beberem vinho, e valentes para misturarem bebidas fortes;23 os quais por peitas justificam o ímpio, e ao justo lhe tiram a sua justiça!24 Por isso como a língua do fogo devora a palha, e como o feno se desfaz na chama, assim a raiz deles se tornará como podridão, e a sua flor subirá como o pó; porque rejeitaram a lei de Jeová dos exércitos, e desprezaram a palavra do Santo de Israel.25 Pelo que a ira de Jeová já se acendeu contra Israel; Jeová estendeu a mão contra ele, e o feriu de modo que tremeram os montes, e os seus cadáveres ficaram como lixo no meio das ruas. Com tudo isto não se aplacou a sua ira, mas a sua mão ainda está estendida.26 Ele arvorará um estandarte para as nações de longe, e assobiará a elas desde a extremidade da terra; eis que virão à pressa, velozmente.27 Não haverá entre eles quem esteja cansado nem tropece; ninguém dormitará nem dormirá; nem se lhe desatará dos lombos o cinto, nem se lhe quebrará dos sapatos a correia.28 As suas setas são agudas e todos os seus arcos entesados; as unhas dos seus cavalos são reputadas como pederneira, e as rodas dos seus carros como redemoinho.29 O seu rugido será como o da leoa, e rugirão como os cachorros dos leões; e rosnando agarrarão a presa, e leva-la-ão com segurança, e não haverá quem lha tire.30 Bramirão contra eles naquele dia como o bramido do mar; olhando para a terra, ver-se-ão trevas e angústia, e as nuvens sobre ela escurecem a luz.

1 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one little measure, and thirty bushels of seed shall yield three bushels.2 dummy verses inserted by amos3 dummy verses inserted by amos4 dummy verses inserted by amos5 dummy verses inserted by amos6 dummy verses inserted by amos7 dummy verses inserted by amos8 dummy verses inserted by amos9 dummy verses inserted by amos10 dummy verses inserted by amos11 Woe to you that rise up early in the morning to follow drunkenness, and to drink till the evening, to be inflamed with wine.12 The harp, and the lyre, and the timbrel, and the pipe, and wine are in your feasts: and the work of the Lord you regard not, nor do you consider the works of his hands.13 Therefore is my people led away captive, because they had not knowledge, and their nobles have perished with famine, and their multitude were dried up with thirst.14 Therefore hath hell enlarged her soul, and opened her mouth without any bounds, and their strong ones, and their people, and their high and glorious ones shall go down into it.15 And man shall be brought down, and man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be brought low.16 And the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and the holy God shall be sanctified in justice.17 And the lambs shall feed according to their order, and strangers shall eat the deserts turned into fruitfulness.18 Woe to you that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as the rope of a cart.19 That say: Let him make haste, and let his work come quickly, that we may see it: and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel come, that we may know it.20 Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.21 Woe to you that rue wise in your own eyes, and prudent in your own conceits.22 Woe to you that are mighty to drink wine, and stout men at drunkenness.23 That justify the wicked for gifts, and take away the justice of the just from him.24 Therefore as the tongue of the fire devoureth the stubble, and the heat of the dame consumeth it: so shall their root be as ashes, and their bud shall go up se dust: for they have cast away the law of the Lord of hosts, and have blasphemed the word of the Holy One of Israel.25 Therefore is the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, and he hath stretched out his hand upon them, and struck them: and the mountains were troubled, and their carcasses became as dung in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.26 And he will lift up a sign to the nations afar off, and will whistle to them from the ends of the earth: and behold they shall come with speed swiftly.27 There is none that shall faint, nor labour among them: they shall not slumber nor sleep, neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken.28 Their arrows are sharp, and all their bows are bent. The hoofs of their horses shall be like the hint, and their wheels like the violence of a tempest.29 Their roaring like that of a lion, they shall roar like young lions: yea they shall roar, and take hold of the prey, and they shall keep fast hold of it, and there shall be none to deliver it.30 And they shall make a noise against them that day, like the roaring of the sea; we shall look towards the land, and behold darkness of tribulation, and the light is darkened with the mist thereof.
