1 Filhinhos meus, estas coisas vos escrevo, para que não pequeis. Se alguém pecar, temos para com o Pai um Paráclito, Jesus Cristo o justo;2 ele é a propiciação pelos nossos pecados, e não somente pelos nossos, mas também pelos de todo o mundo.3 Sabemos por isso que o conhecemos, se guardarmos os seus mandamentos.4 Aquele que diz que o conhece, e não guarda os seus mandamentos, é mentiroso, e a verdade não está nele;5 mas aquele que guardar a sua palavra, nele o amor de Deus é realmente perfeito. Por isso conhecemos que estamos nele:6 aquele que diz que permanece nele, deve também andar como ele andou.7 Amados, não vos escrevo um mandamento novo, mas um mandamento antigo que tendes tido desde o princípio; este mandamento antigo é a palavra que ouvistes.8 Entretanto é um novo mandamento que vos escrevo, o qual é verdadeiro nele e em vós, porque as trevas se estão dissipando e a verdadeira luz já brilha.9 Aquele que diz estar na luz, e aborrece a seu irmão, até agora está nas trevas.10 Aquele que ama a seu irmão, permanece na luz, e não há nele motivo de tropeço;11 mas aquele que aborrece a seu irmão, anda nas trevas, e não sabe para onde vai, porque as trevas lhe cegaram os olhos.12 Eu vos escrevo, filhinhos, porque os vossos pecados são perdoados por amor do seu nome.13 Eu vos escrevo, pais, porque conheceis aquele que existe desde o princípio. Eu vos escrevo, moços, porque tendes vencido o maligno. Eu vos escrevi, meninos, porque conheceis o Pai.14 Eu vos escrevi, pais, porque conheceis aquele que existe desde o princípio. Eu vos escrevi, moços, porque sois fortes, porque a palavra de Deus permanece em vós, e porque tendes vencido o maligno.15 Não ameis o mundo, nem as coisas que há no mundo. Se alguém ama o mundo, o amor do Pai não está nele;16 porque tudo o que há no mundo, a cobiça da carne, a cobiça dos olhos e a vaidade da vida, não vem do Pai, mas sim do mundo.17 Ora o mundo passa e a sua cobiça; mas aquele que faz a vontade de Deus, permanece para sempre.18 Filhinhos, esta é a última hora; e como ouvistes que vem o anticristo, já se têm levantado muitos anticristos, pelo que conhecemos que é a última hora.19 Saíram de nós, mas não eram de nós; porque se tivessem sido de nós, teriam permanecido conosco; mas eles saíram, para que fossem conhecidos que todos estes não são de nós.20 Vós tendes uma unção do Santo, e todos tendes conhecimento.21 Não vos escrevi porque ignorais a verdade, mas porque a sabeis, e porque mentira alguma vem da verdade.22 Quem é o mentiroso senão aquele que nega que Jesus é o Cristo? O anticristo é aquele que nega o Pai e o Filho.23 Todo o que nega o Filho, não tem o Pai; quem confessa o Filho, tem também o Pai.24 O que vós, porém, ouvistes desde o princípio, permaneça em vós. Se o que ouvistes desde o princípio permanecer em vós, permanecereis vós também no Filho e no Pai.25 Esta é a promessa que ele mesmo nos fez, a saber, a vida eterna.26 Eu vos escrevi estas coisas a respeito daqueles que vos desencaminham.27 A unção que dele recebestes, permanece em vós, e não tendes necessidade de que alguém vos ensine; mas como a sua unção vos ensina em todas as coisas, e ela é verdadeira e não mentirosa, e como ela vos ensinou, permaneceis nele.28 Agora, filhinhos, permanecei nele, para que, se ele aparecer, tenhamos confiança e dele não nos afastemos envergonhados na sua vinda.29 Se souberdes que ele é justo, reconhecei também que todo aquele que pratica a justiça, é nascido dele.

1 My little children, I'm writing these things to you so that you might not sin. Yet if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, one who is righteous.2 It is he who is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world's.3 This is how we can be sure that we have come to know him: if we continually keep his commandments.4 The person who says, "I have come to know him," but does not continually keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in that person.5 But whoever continually keeps his word is the kind of person in whom God's love has truly been perfected. This is how we can be sure that we are in union with him:6 The one who says that he abides in him must live the same way he himself lived.7 Dear friends, I am not writing to you a new commandment, but an old commandment that you have had from the beginning. This old commandment is the word you have heard.8 On the other hand, I am writing to you a new commandment that is true in him and in you. For the darkness is fading away, and the true light is already shining.9 The person who says that he is in the light but hates his brother is still in the darkness.10 The person who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no reason for him to stumble.11 But the person who hates his brother is in the darkness and lives in the darkness. He does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.12 I am writing to you, little children,because your sins have been forgivenon account of his name.13 I am writing to you, fathers,because you have known the one whohas existed from the beginning. I am writing to you, young people,because you have overcome the evil one.14 I have written to you, little children,because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers,because you have known the one whohas existed from the beginning. I have written to you, young people,because you are strongand because God's word remains in youand you have overcome the evil one.15 Stop loving the world and the things that are in the world. If anyone persists in loving the world, the Father's love is not in him.16 For everything that is in the world—the desire for fleshly gratification, the desire for possessions, and worldly arrogance—is not from the Father but is from the world.17 And the world and its desires are fading away, but the person who does God's will remains forever.18 Little children, it is the last hour. Just as you heard that an antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have appeared. This is how we know it is the last hour.19 They left us, but they were not part of us, for if they had been part of us, they would have stayed with us. They simply made it clear that none of them was really part of us.20 You have an anointing from the Holy One and know all things.21 I have not written to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.22 Who is a liar but the person who denies that Jesus is the Christ? The person who denies the Father and the Son is the antichrist.23 No one who denies the Son has the Father. The person who acknowledges the Son also has the Father.24 What you have heard from the beginning must abide in you. If what you have heard from the beginning abides in you, you will also abide in the Son and in the Father.25 The message that he himself declared to us is eternal life.26 I have written to you about those who are trying to deceive you.27 The anointing you received from him abides in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. Instead, because his anointing teaches you about everything and is true and not a lie, abide in him, as he taught you to do.28 Even now, little children, abide in him. Then, when he appears, we will have confidence and will not turn away from him in shame at his coming.29 If you know that he is righteous, you also know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born from God.
