1 Tu, pois, filho meu, fortifica-te na graça que é em Cristo Jesus,2 e o que de mim ouviste diante de muitas testemunhas, entrega-o a homens fiéis, os quais sejam capazes de ensinar também a outros.3 Sofre comigo como bom soldado de Cristo Jesus.4 Nenhum soldado em serviço se embaraça com os negócios desta vida, para que possa agradar àquele que o alistou.5 Se alguém combater nos jogos públicos, não é coroado, sem que tenha combatido segundo as regras.6 O lavrador que trabalha, deve ser o primeiro a gozar dos frutos.7 Pensa bem no que digo; porque o Senhor te dará compreensão em tudo.8 Lembra-te de Jesus Cristo, ressuscitado dentre os mortos, descendente de Davi, segundo o meu Evangelho,9 no qual sofro, a ponto de ser preso como malfeitor, mas a palavra de Deus não está presa.10 Portanto sofro tudo por amor dos escolhidos, para que eles também alcancem a salvação que é em Cristo Jesus com a glória eterna.11 Fiel é esta palavra: se, pois, já morremos com ele, com ele também viveremos; se perseveramos, reinaremos também com ele;12 se o negarmos, ele também nos negará a nós;13 se somos infiéis, ele permanece fiel, porque não pode negar-se a si mesmo.14 Lembra-lhes estas coisas, conjurando-os diante de Deus que não tenham contendas de palavras que para nada aproveitam, senão para perverter os que as ouvem.15 Esforça-te para te apresentar diante de Deus aprovado como obreiro que não tem de que se envergonhar, e que manejas bem a palavra da verdade.16 Mas evita as conversas vãs e profanas; porque os que delas usam, passarão à impiedade ainda maior,17 e as suas palavras lavrarão como gangrena. Deste número são Himeneu e Fileto,18 os quais se desviaram da verdade, dizendo que a ressurreição é já passada, e assim pervertem a fé de alguns.19 Entretanto o firme fundamento de Deus permanece, tendo este selo: O Senhor conhece os que são dele, e: Aparte-se da injustiça todo aquele que pronuncia o nome do Senhor.20 Ora numa grande casa há não somente vasos de ouro e de prata, mas os há também de madeira e de barro; uns, na verdade, são para uso de honra, outros, porém, para uso vil.21 Se, pois, alguém se purificar deste, ele será um vaso de honra, santificado, útil ao Senhor e preparado para toda a boa obra.22 Foge também das paixões da mocidade e segue a justiça, a fé, o amor, a paz com aqueles que invocam o Senhor com um coração puro.23 Rejeita as questões absurdas e desassisadas, sabendo que elas provocam brigas.24 Ora o servo do Senhor não deve brigar, mas deve ser condescendente para com todos, capaz de ensinar, sofrido,25 que corrija com mansidão aos que se opõem, na esperança de que Deus lhes conceda o arrependimento para conhecerem a verdade,26 e que despertem e se livrem do laço do Diabo (tendo sido feitos cativos por ele), para cumprirem a vontade de Deus.

1 As for you, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.2 What you have heard from me through many witnesses entrust to faithful people who will be able to teach others as well.3 Join me in suffering like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.4 No one serving in the military gets mixed up in civilian matters, for his aim is to please his commanding officer.5 Moreover, no one who is an athlete wins a prize unless he competes according to the rules.6 Furthermore, it is the hard working farmer who should have the first share of the crops.7 Think about what I am saying. The Lord will help you to understand all these things.8 Meditate on Jesus Christ, who was raised from the dead and is a descendant of David. This is the gospel I tell others.9 Because of it I am experiencing trouble, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. However, God's word is not chained.10 For that reason, I endure everything for the sake of those who have been chosen so that they, too, may receive the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, along with eternal glory.11 This saying is trustworthy: In dying with Christ,true life we gain.12 Enduring, we with him shall reign.Who him denies,he will disclaim.13 Our faith may fail,his never wanes— For thus he is,he cannot change!14 Remind others about these things, and warn them in the sight of God not to argue over words. Arguing does not do any good but only destroys those who are listening.15 Do your best to present yourself to God as an approved worker who has nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of truth with precision.16 However, avoid pointless discussions. For people will become more and more ungodly,17 and what they say will spread everywhere like gangrene. Hymenaeus and Philetus are like that.18 They have abandoned the truth by claiming that the resurrection has already taken place, and so they destroy the faith of others.19 However, God's solid foundation still stands. It has this inscription on it: "The Lord knows those who belong to him," and "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord must turn away from evil."20 In a large house there are not only utensils made of gold and silver, but also those made of wood and clay. Some are for special use, while others are for ordinary use.21 Therefore, if anyone stops associating with these people, he will become a special utensil, set apart for the owner's use, prepared for every good work.22 Flee from youthful passions. Instead, pursue righteousness, faithfulness, love, and peace together with those who call on the Lord with a pure heart.23 Do not have anything to do with foolish and stupid discussions, because you know they breed arguments.24 A servant of the Lord must not argue. Instead, he must be kind to everyone, teachable, willing to suffer wrong,25 and gentle in refuting his opponents. After all, maybe God will allow them to repent and to come to a full knowledge of the truth,26 so that they might escape from the devil's snare, even though they've been held captive by him to do his will.
