1 Todo o que crê que Jesus é o Cristo, é nascido de Deus; e todo o que ama ao que gerou, ama também ao que dele tem sido gerado.2 Por isso sabemos que amamos aos filhos de Deus, quando amarmos a Deus e guardarmos os seus mandamentos.3 Pois este é o amor de Deus, que guardemos os seus mandamentos; e os seus mandamentos não são penosos,4 pois tudo o que é nascido de Deus, vence ao mundo; e esta é a vitória que venceu o mundo, a nossa fé.5 Quem é o que vence o mundo, senão aquele que crê que Jesus é o Filho de Deus?6 Este é Jesus Cristo que veio por meio de água e sangue; não só com a água, mas com a água e com o sangue;7 e o Espírito é o que dá testemunho, porque o Espírito é a verdade.8 Pois três são os que dão testemunho, o Espírito, a água e o sangue, e estes três concordam.9 Se nós aceitamos o testemunho dos homens, o testemunho de Deus é maior; porque o testemunho de Deus consiste em ter ele dado testemunho de seu Filho.10 Quem crê no Filho de Deus, tem em si o testemunho. Quem não crê a Deus, o tem feito mentiroso, porque não tem crido no testemunho que Deus dá de seu Filho.11 Este testemunho é que Deus nos deu a vida eterna, e esta vida está em seu Filho.12 Quem tem o Filho, tem a vida; quem não tem o Filho de Deus, não tem a vida.13 Estas coisas vos escrevo, para que saibais que tendes a vida eterna, escrevo a vós que credes no nome do Filho de Deus.14 Esta é a confiança que temos para com ele, que se lhe pedirmos alguma coisa conforme a sua vontade, ele nos ouve.15 Se sabemos que ele nos ouve em tudo quanto pedirmos, sabemos que temos as coisas que a ele temos pedido.16 Se alguém vir seu irmão cometer um pecado que não é para morte, pedirá, e Deus lhe dará a vida para aqueles que não pecam para morte. Há pecado que é para morte, por este não digo que alguém rogue.17 Toda a injustiça é pecado, e há pecado que não é para morte.18 Sabemos que todo aquele que é nascido de Deus, não peca; pelo contrário aquele que nasceu de Deus, guarda-o, e o maligno não o segura.19 Sabemos que somos de Deus, e o mundo inteiro está no maligno.20 Sabemos mais que o Filho de Deus veio, e que nos deu entendimento, para que conheçamos o verdadeiro; e nós estamos no verdadeiro, isto é, em seu Filho Jesus Cristo. Este é o verdadeiro Deus e a vida eterna.21 Filhinhos, guardai-vos dos ídolos.

1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born from God, and everyone who loves the parent also loves the child.2 This is how we know that we love God's children: we love God and keep his commandments.3 For this is the love of God: that we keep his commandments; and his commandments are not difficult,4 because everyone who is born from God has overcome the world. Our faith is the victory that overcomes the world.5 Who overcomes the world? Is it not the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?6 This man, Jesus Christ, is the one who came by water and blood—not with water only, but with water and with blood. The Spirit is the one who verifies this, because the Spirit is the truth.7 For there are three witnesses—8 the Spirit, the water, and the blood—and these three are one.9 If we accept human testimony, God's testimony is greater, because it is the testimony of God and because he has testified about his Son.10 The person who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in himself. The person who does not believe God has made him a liar by not believing the testimony that God has given about his Son.11 This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is found in his Son.12 The person who has the Son has this life. The person who does not have the Son of God does not have this life.13 I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.14 And this is the confidence that we have in him: if we ask for anything according to his will, he listens to us.15 And if we know that he listens to our requests, we can be sure that we have what we ask him for.16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray that God would give him life. This applies to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not telling you to pray about that.17 Every kind of wrongdoing is sin, yet there are sins that do not lead to death.18 We know that the person who has been born from God does not go on sinning. Rather, the Son of God protects them, and the evil one cannot harm them.19 We know that we are from God and that the whole world lies under the control of the evil one.20 We also know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true God. We are in union with the one who is true, his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.
