1 Todos os servos que estão debaixo do jugo, estimem a seus senhores como dignos de toda a honra, a fim de que o nome de Deus e a doutrina não sejam blasfemados.2 Aqueles que têm senhores crentes, não os desprezem, porque são irmãos; antes os sirvam melhor, porque os que se aproveitam do seu trabalho, são crentes e amigos. Ensina e recomenda estas coisas.3 Se alguém ensina doutrina diversa e não aceita as sãs palavras de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e a doutrina segundo a piedade,4 esse é cheio de orgulho e nada sabe, mas delira acerca de questões e contendas de palavras, das quais se originam invejas, brigas, calúnias, suspeitas injustas5 e discussões intermináveis da parte de pessoas perversas de entendimento, privadas da verdade, julgando que a piedade é um mero interesse.6 A piedade com o contentamento é grande lucro,7 porque nada trouxemos para este mundo, nem nada podemos levar dele;8 tendo alimento e vestuário, deveremos ficar satisfeitos com isto.9 Os que querem tornar-se ricos, caem em tentação e em laço e em muitos desejos insensatos e nocivos, os quais arrastam os homens à ruína e à perdição.10 Pois o amor do dinheiro é raiz de todos os males; e alguns, cobiçando-o, se desviaram da fé e se traspassaram a si mesmos com muitas dores.11 Tu, porém, ó homem de Deus, foge destas coisas; segue a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a perseverança, a mansidão.12 Peleja a boa peleja da fé; apodera-te da vida eterna, para a qual foste chamado, tendo feito uma boa confissão diante de muitas testemunhas.13 Eu te exorto diante de Deus que dá vida a todas as coisas e diante de Jesus Cristo, que perante Pôncio Pilatos fez sua boa confissão,14 que guardes este mandamento sem mácula nem repreensão até a vinda de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo;15 a qual no tempo próprio mostrará o bem-aventurado e único Soberano, o Rei dos reis e o Senhor dos senhores,16 aquele que só possui a imortalidade, e que habita em luz inacessível, a quem nenhum dos homens tem visto, nem pode ver; ao qual seja dada honra e poder eterno. Amém.17 Exorta os ricos deste mundo a que não sejam orgulhosos, nem esperem na incerteza das riquezas, mas em Deus, que nos concede abundantemente todas as coisas para delas gozarmos;18 que pratiquem o bem, que se enriqueçam de boas obras, que sejam generosos e liberais,19 entesourando para si um fundamento sólido para o futuro, a fim de que se apoderem da vida que é realmente vida.20 Ó Timóteo, guarda o que te foi confiado, evitando as conversas vãs e profanas e as objeções de uma falsa ciência,21 a qual tendo alguns professado, se desviaram da fé. A graça seja convosco.

1 All who are under the yoke of slavery should regard their own masters as deserving of the highest respect, so that the name of God and our teaching may not be discredited.2 Moreover, those who have believing masters should not be disrespectful to them because they are fellow believers. Instead, they must serve them even better, because those who benefit from their service are believers and dear to them. These are the things you must teach and exhort.3 If anyone teaches false doctrine and refuses to agree with the healthy words of our Lord Jesus Christ and godly teaching,4 he is a conceited person and does not understand anything. He has an unhealthy craving for arguments and debates. This produces jealousy, rivalry, slander, evil suspicions,5 and incessant conflict between people who are depraved in mind and deprived of truth. They think that godliness is a way to make a profit.6 Of course, godliness with contentment does bring a great profit.7 For we did not bring anything into the world, and surely we cannot take anything out of it.8 So as long as we have food and clothes, we will be satisfied with these.9 But people who want to get rich keep toppling into temptation and are trapped by many stupid and harmful desires that plunge them into destruction and ruin.10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, in their eagerness to get rich, have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with much pain.11 But you, man of God, must flee from all these things. Instead, you must pursue righteousness, godliness, faithfulness, love, endurance, and gentleness.12 Fight the good fight for the faith. Keep your hold on eternal life, to which you were called and about which you gave a good testimony in front of many witnesses.13 In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and in the sight of Christ Jesus, who gave a good testimony before Pontius Pilate, I solemnly charge you14 to keep this command stainless and blameless until the appearance of our Lord Jesus Christ.15 At the right time God will make him known. He is the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords.16 He alone has endless life and lives in inaccessible light. No one has ever seen him, nor can anyone see him. Honor and eternal power belong to him! Amen.17 Tell those who are rich in the present world not to be arrogant and not to place their confidence in anything as uncertain as riches. Instead, let them place their confidence in God, who lavishly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.18 They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous, and to share.19 By doing this they store up a treasure for themselves that is a good foundation for the future, so that they can take hold of the life that is real.20 Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the pointless discussions and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge.21 Although some claim to have it, they have abandoned the faith. May grace be with all of you!
