1 Temamos, portanto, que, sendo-nos feita uma promessa de entrarmos no seu descanso, não haja algum de vós, porventura, que pareça ter falhado.2 Pois na verdade a nós nos tem sido evangelizado, como a eles; mas a palavra da mensagem não lhes aproveitou, não sendo unida com a fé naqueles que a ouviram.3 Pois nós que cremos, entramos no descanso, assim como ele tem dito: Assim jurei na minha ira: Não entrarão no meu descanso, embora fossem completadas as obras desde a fundação do mundo.4 Pois em certo lugar disse assim acerca do dia sétimo: E descansou Deus no dia sétimo de todas as suas obras;5 e outra vez neste lugar: Não entrarão no meu descanso.6 Visto, portanto, que resta que alguns entrem nele, e que os que foram anteriormente evangelizados, não entraram por causa da desobediência,7 outra vez determina um certo dia, hoje, dizendo por Davi depois de tanto tempo (como antes se disse): Hoje se ouvirdes a sua voz, Não endureçais os vossos corações.8 Pois se Josué lhes houvesse dado descanso, não teria depois falado de outro dia.9 Portanto resta um sabatismo para o povo de Deus.10 Pois aquele que entrou no descanso dele, esse também descansou das suas obras, assim como Deus das suas.11 Portanto esforcemo-nos por entrar naquele descanso, a fim de que ninguém caia segundo o mesmo exemplo de desobediência.12 Pois a palavra de Deus é viva, e eficaz, e mais cortante que qualquer espada de dois gumes, e que penetra até a divisão de alma e espírito, e de juntas e medulas, e pronta para discernir as disposições e pensamentos do coração.13 Não há criatura que não seja manifesta diante dele, mas todas as coisas estão nuas e descobertas aos olhos daquele a quem havemos de dar contas.14 Tendo, portanto, um grande sumo sacerdote que penetrou os céus, a saber, Jesus, Filho de Deus, guardemos firmes a nossa confissão.15 Pois não temos um sumo sacerdote que não possa compadecer-se das nossas enfermidades, mas que tem sido tentado em todas as coisas à nossa semelhança, mas sem pecado.16 Cheguemo-nos, portanto, com confiança ao trono da graça, para que recebamos misericórdia e achemos graça, a fim de sermos socorridos em tempo oportuno.

1 Therefore, as long as the promise of entering his rest remains valid, let us be afraid lest someone among you fails to reach it.2 For we have had the good news told to us as well as to them, but the message they heard did not help them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened to it.3 For we who have believed are entering that rest, just as he has said, "So in my anger I swore a solemn oaththat they would never enter my rest,"even though his works had been finished since the foundation of the world.4 For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day as follows: "On the seventh day God rested from all his works,"5 and again in this place, "They will never enter my rest."6 Therefore, since it is still true that some will enter it, and since those who once heard the good news failed to enter it because of their disobedience,7 he again fixes a definite day—"Today"—saying long afterward through David, as already quoted, "Today, if you hear his voice,do not harden your hearts."8 For if Joshua had given them rest, he would not have spoken later about another day.9 There remains, therefore, a Sabbath rest for the people of God.10 For the one who enters God's rest has himself rested from his own works, just as God did from his.11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one may fail by following their example of disobedience.12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul and spirit, joints and marrow, as it judges the thoughts and purposes of the heart.13 No creature can hide from him, but all are naked and helpless before the eyes of the one to whom we must give a word of explanation.14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us continue to hold on to our confession.15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.16 So let us keep on coming with boldness to the throne of grace, so that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
