1 Então foi levado Jesus pelo Espírito ao deserto, para ser tentado pelo Diabo.2 Depois de jejuar quarenta dias e quarenta noites, teve fome.3 Chegando o tentador, disse-lhe: Se és Filho de Deus, manda que estas pedras se tornem em pães.4 Mas Jesus respondeu: Está escrito: Não só de pão viverá o homem, mas de toda a palavra que sai da boca de Deus.5 Então o Diabo o levou à cidade santa, e o colocou sobre o pináculo do templo,6 e disse-lhe: Se és Filho de Deus, lança-te daqui abaixo; porque escrito está: Aos seus anjos ordenará a teu respeito, E eles te susterão nas suas mãos, Para não tropeçares em alguma pedra.7 Tornou-lhe Jesus: Também está escrito: Não tentarás o Senhor teu Deus.8 De novo o Diabo o levou a um monte muito alto, mostrou-lhe todos os reinos do mundo e a glória deles,9 e disse-lhe: Tudo isto te darei, se, prostrado, me adorares.10 Respondeu-lhe Jesus: Vai-te, Satanás; pois está escrito: Ao Senhor teu Deus adorarás, e só a ele darás culto.11 Então o Diabo o deixou; e eis que vieram anjos, e o serviam.12 Quando Jesus soube que João fora preso, partiu para a Galiléia.13 Deixando Nazaré, foi morar em Cafarnaum, situada à beira-mar, nos confins de Zebulom e Naftali,14 para que se cumprisse o que foi dito pelo profeta Isaías:15 A terra de Zebulom e a terra de Naftali, Caminho do mar, além do Jordão, A Galiléia dos gentios,16 O povo que jazia nas trevas, Viu uma grande luz, E aos que estavam de assento na região e sombra da morte, A estes raiou a luz.17 Desde esse tempo começou Jesus a pregar e a dizer: Arrependei-vos, porque está próximo o reino dos céus.18 Andando ao longo do mar da Galiléia, viu dois irmãos, Simão, também chamado Pedro, e André, lançarem a rede ao mar; porque eram pescadores.19 Disse-lhes: Segui-me, e eu vos farei pescadores de homens.20 Imediatamente eles deixaram as redes, e o seguiram.21 Jesus, passando adiante, viu outros dois irmãos, Tiago e João, filhos de Zebedeu, que estavam na barca com seu pai, consertando as suas redes; e os chamou.22 Eles, deixando logo a barca e seu pai, o seguiram.23 Andava Jesus por toda a Galiléia, ensinando nas sinagogas, pregando o Evangelho do reino e curando todas as doenças e enfermidades entre o povo.24 A sua fama correu por toda a Síria; trouxeram-lhe todos os enfermos, acometidos de várias doenças e sofrimentos, endemoninhados, epiléticos e paralíticos, e ele os curou.25 Muita gente o seguiu da Galiléia, de Decápolis, de Jerusalém, da Judéia e dalém do Jordão.

1 Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.2 After fasting for forty days and forty nights, he finally became hungry.3 The tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become loaves of bread."4 But he answered,"It is written, ‘One must not live on bread alone,but on every word comingout of the mouth of God.’"5 Then the devil took him to the Holy City and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.6 He said to Jesus, "If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down. For it is written, ‘God will put his angels in charge of you,’and ‘With their hands they will hold you up,so that you will never hit your foot against a rock.’"7 Jesus said to him,"It is also written,‘You must not tempt the Lord your God.’"8 Once more the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor.9 He said to Jesus, "I will give you all of these things if you will bow down and worship me!"10 Then Jesus said to him,"Go away,Satan! For it is written,‘You must worship the Lord your Godand serve only him.’"11 Then the devil left him, and angels came and began ministering to him.12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been arrested, he went back to Galilee.13 He left Nazareth and went and settled in Capernaum by the sea, in the regions of Zebulun and Naphtali,14 in order to fulfill what was declared by the prophet Isaiah when he said,15 "O Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,on the road to the sea, across the Jordan,Galilee of the Gentiles!16 The people living in darkness have seen a great light,and for those living in the land and shadow of death,a light has risen."17 From then on, Jesus began to preach and to say,"Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near!"18 While Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers—Simon, who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew. They were throwing a net into the sea because they were fishermen.19 He said to them,"Follow me, and I will make you fishermen of people!"20 So at once they left their nets and followed him.21 Going on from there he saw two other brothers—James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee repairing their nets. When he called them,22 they immediately left the boat and their father and followed him.23 Then he went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every disease and every illness among the people.24 His fame spread throughout Syria, and people brought to him all who were sick—those afflicted with various diseases and pains, the demon-possessed, the epileptics, and the paralyzed—and he healed them.25 Large crowds followed him from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and from across the Jordan.
