1 Naquele dia saindo Jesus de casa, sentou-se junto ao mar;2 chegaram-se a ele grandes multidões, de modo que entrou numa barca e se assentou; e todo o povo ficou em pé na praia.3 Muitas coisas lhes falou em parábolas, dizendo: O semeador saiu a semear.4 Quando semeava, uma parte da semente caiu à beira do caminho, e vieram as aves e comeram-na.5 Outra parte caiu nos lugares pedregosos, onde não havia muita terra; logo nasceu, porque a terra não era profunda,6 e tendo saído o sol, queimou-se; e porque não tinha raiz, secou-se.7 Outra caiu entre os espinhos, e os espinhos cresceram e a sufocaram.8 Outra caiu na boa terra e dava fruto, havendo grãos que rendiam cem, outros sessenta, outros trinta por um.9 Quem tem ouvidos, ouça.10 Chegando-se a ele os discípulos, perguntaram: Por que lhes falas em parábolas?11 Respondeu-lhes: Porque a vós vos é dado conhecer os mistérios do reino dos céus, mas a eles não lhes é isso dado.12 Pois ao que tem, dar-se-lhe-á, e terá em abundância; mas ao que não tem, até aquilo que tem, ser-lhe-á tirado.13 Por isso lhes falo em parábolas, porque vendo, não vêem; e ouvindo, não ouvem, nem entendem.14 Neles se está cumprindo a profecia de Isaías, que diz: Certamente ouvireis, e de nenhum modo entendereis; Certamente vereis, e de nenhum modo percebereis.15 Pois o coração deste povo se fez pesado, E os seus ouvidos se fizeram tardos, E eles fecharam os olhos; Para não suceder que, vendo com os olhos E ouvindo com os ouvidos, Entendam no coração e se convertam, E eu os sare.16 Mas ditosos são os vossos olhos, porque vêem; e os vossos ouvidos, porque ouvem.17 Pois em verdade vos digo que muitos profetas e justos desejaram ver o que vedes, e não no viram; e ouvir o que ouvis, e não no ouviram.18 Ouvi, pois, vós a parábola do semeador.19 Quando alguém ouve a palavra do reino e não a entende, vem o maligno e tira o que tem sido semeado no seu coração: este é o que foi semeado à beira do caminho.20 O que foi semeado nos lugares pedregosos, é quem ouve a palavra e logo a recebe com alegria;21 mas não tem em si raiz, antes é de pouca duração; e sobrevindo tribulação ou perseguição por causa da palavra, logo se escandaliza.22 O que foi semeado entre os espinhos, é quem ouve a palavra, mas os cuidados do mundo e a sedução das riquezas abafam a palavra, e ela fica infrutífera.23 O que foi semeado na boa terra, é quem ouve a palavra e a entende, e verdadeiramente dá fruto, produzindo a cento, a sessenta e a trinta por um.24 Jesus lhes propôs outra parábola: O reino dos céus é semelhante a um homem que semeou boa semente no seu campo.25 Mas enquanto os homens dormiam, veio um inimigo dele, semeou joio no meio do trigo e retirou-se.26 Porém quando a erva cresceu e deu fruto, então apareceu também o joio.27 Chegando os servos do dono do campo, disseram-lhe: Senhor, não semeaste boa semente no teu campo? pois donde vem o joio?28 Respondeu-lhes: Homem inimigo é quem fez isso. Os servos continuaram: Queres, então, que vamos arrancá-lo?29 Não, respondeu ele, para que não suceda que, tirando o joio, arranqueis juntamente com ele também o trigo.30 Deixai crescer ambos juntos até a ceifa; e no tempo da ceifa direi aos ceifeiros: Ajuntai primeiro o joio e atai-o em feixes para o queimar, mas recolhei o trigo no meu celeiro.31 Mais outra parábola lhes propôs, dizendo: O reino dos céus é semelhante a um grão de mostarda, que um homem tomou e plantou no seu campo;32 o qual grão é, na verdade, a menor de todas as sementes, mas depois de crescido, é a maior das hortaliças e faz-se árvore, de tal modo que as aves do céu vêm pousar nos seus ramos.33 Ainda outra parábola lhes propôs, dizendo: O reino dos céus é semelhante ao fermento, que uma mulher tomou e escondeu em três medidas de farinha, até ficar toda ela levedada.34 Todas estas coisas falou Jesus ao povo em parábolas, e nada lhes falava sem parábolas;35 para que se cumprisse o que foi dito pelo profeta: Abrirei em parábolas a minha boca, E publicarei coisas escondidas desde a criação.36 Então tendo deixado as turbas, entrou Jesus em casa. Chegando-se a ele seus discípulos, disseram: Explica-nos a parábola do joio do campo.37 Ele respondeu: O que semeia a boa semente, é o Filho do homem;38 o campo é o mundo; a boa semente são os filhos do reino; o joio são os filhos do maligno;39 o inimigo que o semeou, é o Diabo; a ceifa é o fim do mundo, e os ceifeiros são anjos.40 Pois assim como o joio é ajuntado e queimado no fogo, assim será no fim do mundo.41 O Filho do homem enviará os seus anjos, e eles ajuntarão do seu reino tudo o que serve de pedra de tropeço e os que praticam a iniqüidade,42 e lançá-los-ão na fornalha de fogo; ali haverá o choro e o ranger de dentes.43 Então os justos brilharão como o sol no reino de seu Pai. Quem tem ouvidos, ouça.44 O reino dos céus é semelhante a um tesouro que, oculto no campo, foi achado e escondido por um homem, o qual, movido de gozo, foi vender tudo o que possuía e comprou aquele campo.45 O reino dos céus é também semelhante a um negociante que buscava boas pérolas;46 e tendo achado uma de grande valor, foi vender tudo o que possuía e a comprou.47 Finalmente o reino dos céus é semelhante a uma rede, que foi lançada no mar, e apanhou peixes de toda a espécie.48 Depois de cheia, os pescadores puxaram-na para a praia; e sentados, puseram os bons em cestos, mas deitaram fora os ruins.49 Assim será no fim do mundo: sairão os anjos e separarão os maus dentre os justos,50 e lançá-los-ão na fornalha de fogo; ali haverá o choro e o ranger de dentes.51 Entendestes vós todas estas coisas? Responderam-lhe: Entendemos.52 Então acrescentou: Por isso todo o escriba instruído no reino dos céus é semelhante a um pai de família, que do seu tesouro tira coisas novas e velhas.53 Tendo Jesus concluído estas parábolas, partiu dali.54 Chegando à sua terra, ensinava o povo na sinagoga, de modo que muitos se admiravam e diziam: Donde lhe vem esta sabedoria, e estes milagres?55 Não é este o filho do carpinteiro? sua mãe não se chama Maria, e seus irmãos não são Tiago, José, Simão e Judas?56 Não vivem entre nós todas as suas irmãs? Donde lhe vem, pois, tudo isso?57 Ele lhes servia de pedra de tropeço. Mas disse-lhes Jesus: Um profeta não deixa de receber honra, senão na sua terra e na sua casa.58 Não fez ali muitos milagres por causa da incredulidade do povo.

1 That day Jesus left the house and sat down beside the sea.2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, while the entire crowd stood on the shore.3 Then he began to tell them many things in parables. He said,"Listen! A sower went out to sow.4 As he was sowing, some seeds fell along the path, and birds came and ate them up.5 Other seeds fell on stony ground, where they did not have a lot of soil. They sprouted at once because the soil wasn't deep.6 Butwhen the sun came up, they were scorched. Since they did not have any roots, they dried up.7 Other seeds fell among thornbushes, and the thornbushes came up and choked them.8 But other seeds fell on good soil and produced a crop, some a hundred, some sixty, and some thirty times what was sown.9 Let the person who hasearslisten!"10 Then the disciples came and said to Jesus, "Why do you speak to people in parables?"11 He answered them,"You have been given knowledge about the secrets of the kingdom of heaven, but it hasn't been given to them.12 For to anyone who has something, more will be given, and he will have more than enough. But from the one who doesn't have anything, even whathe has will be taken away from him.13 That's why I speak to them in parables, because‘they look but don't see,and they listen but don't hear or understand.’14 "With them the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says:‘You will listen and listen but never understand.You will look and look but never comprehend.15 For this people's heart has become dull,and their ears are hard of hearing. They have shut their eyesso that they might not see with their eyes,and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn,and I would heal them.’16 "How blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear!17 For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see but did not see them, and to hear the things you hear but did not hear them."18 "Listen, then, to the parable about the sower.19 When anyone hears the word about the kingdom yet doesn't understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.20 As for what was sown on the stony ground, this is the person who hears the word and accepts it at once with joy,21 but since he doesn't have any root in himself, he lasts for only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes along because of the word, he immediately falls away.22 As for what was sown among the thornbushes, this is the person who hears the word, but the worries of life and the deceitful pleasures of wealth choke the word so that it can't produce a crop.23 But as for what was sown on good soil, this is the person who hears the word, understands it, and produces a crop that yields a hundred, sixty, or thirty times what was sown."24 He presented another parable to them, saying,"The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.25 While people were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away.26 When the crop came up and bore grain, the weeds appeared, too.27 Theowner's servants came and said to him, ‘Master, you sowed good seed in your field, didn't you? Then where did these weeds come from?’28 He told them, ‘An enemy did this!’ The servants said to him, ‘Then do you want us to go and pull them out?’29 He said, ‘No, for if you pull out the weeds, you might pull out the wheat with them.30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, "Gather the weeds first and tie them in bundles for burning, but bring the wheat into my barn."’"31 He presented another parable to them, saying,"The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that a man took and planted in his field.32 Although it is the smallestofall seeds, when it is fully grown it is larger than the garden plants and becomes a tree, and the birds in the sky come and nest in its branches."33 He told them another parable:"The kingdom of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed withthree measures of flour until all of it was leavened."34 Jesus told the crowds all these things in parables. He did not tell them anything without using a parable.35 This was to fulfill what was declared by the prophet when he said, "I will open my mouth to speak in parables.I will declare what has been hiddenfrom the foundation of the world."36 Then Jesus left the crowds and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, "Explain to us the parable about the weeds in the field."37 He answered,"The person who sowed good seed is the Son of Man,38 while the field is the world. The good seed are those who belong tothe kingdom, while the weeds are those who belong tothe evil one.39 The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels.40 Just as weeds are gathered and burned with fire, so it will be at end oftheage.41 The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather from his kingdom everything that causes others to sin and those who practice lawlessness42 and they will throw them into a blazing furnace. In that place there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.43 Thenthe righteous will shine like the sun in their Father's kingdom. Letthe person who has earslisten!"44 "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field that a man found and hid. In his joy he went and sold everything he had and bought that field."45 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant searching for fine pearls.46 When he found a very valuable pearl, he went and sold everything he had and bought it."47 "Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a large net thrown into the sea that gathered all kinds of fish.48 When it was full, the fishermenhauled it ashore. Then they sat down, sorted the good fish into containers, and threw the bad ones away.49 That is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and separate the evil from the righteous50 and will throw them into a blazing furnace. In that place there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth."51 "Do you understand all these things?"They said to him, "Yes."52 Then he told them,"That is why every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like the master of a household who brings both new and old things out of his treasure chest."53 When Jesus had finished these parables, he left that place.54 He went to his hometown and began teaching the people in their synagogue in such a way that they were amazed and said, "Where did this man get this wisdom and these miracles?55 This is the builder's son, isn't it? His mother is named Mary, isn't she? His brothers are James, Joseph, Simon, and Judas, aren't they?56 And his sisters are all with us, aren't they? So where did this man get all these things?"57 And they were offended by him.But Jesus told them,"A prophet is without honor only in his hometown and in his own home."58 He did not perform many miracles there because of their unbelief.
