Elcana e suas mulheres

1 Houve um homem de *1Sm 1.19Remataim-Zofim, da *Js 17.17-18região montanhosa de Efraim, cujo nome era *1Cr 6.22-28,33-38Elcana, filho de Jeroão, filho de Eliú, filho de Toú, filho de Zufe, efraimita. 2 Ele tinha *Dt 21.15-17duas mulheres: uma se chamava *Lc 2.36Ana, e a outra, Penina. Penina tinha filhos, porém Ana não os tinha. 3 Este homem subia da sua cidade, *1Sm 1.21;Êx 34.23;Lc 2.41de ano em ano, *Dt 12.5-7a adorar e oferecer sacrifícios, em *Js 18.1Siló, a Jeová dos Exércitos. Assistiam ali os dois filhos de Eli, Hofni e Fineias, como sacerdotes de Jeová. 4 No dia em que Elcana oferecia o seu sacrifício, costumava *Dt 12.17-18dar quinhões à sua mulher Penina e a todos os seus filhos e filhas, 5 porém a Ana dava um *Gn 43.34só quinhão; contudo ele a amava; mas *Gn 16.1;30.1Jeová lhe havia cerrado a madre. 6 Para lhe fazer enfadar-se, muito a *Jó 24.21atormentava a sua rival, porque Jeová lhe havia cerrado a madre. 7 Assim fazia ele de ano em ano. Certa ocasião em que Penina subiu à Casa de Jeová, irritou ela a Ana, que se pôs a chorar e não comeu. 8 Perguntou-lhe Elcana, seu marido: Ana, por que choras? Por que não comes? E por que está triste o teu coração? *Rt 4.15Não te sou eu melhor do que dez filhos?

Ana roga a Deus que lhe dê um filho

9 Levantou-se Ana, depois que comeram e beberam em Siló. Ora, o sacerdote Eli estava sentado na sua cadeira, junto ao umbral da porta *1Sm 3.3do templo de Jeová. 10 Ela, profundamente amargurada, orou a Jeová e chorou muito; 11 *Nm 30.6-11fez um voto e disse: Jeová dos Exércitos, se, na verdade, tu te dignares *Gn 29.32olhar para a aflição da tua serva e se te lembrares de mim; se não te esqueceres da tua serva, mas se lhe deres um filho varão, eu o darei a Jeová por todos os dias da sua vida, e *Nm 6.5;Jz 13.5;Lc 1.15não passará navalha pela sua cabeça.

12 Continuando ela a orar diante de Jeová, observou Eli o movimento dos seus lábios. 13 Ana, todavia, *Gn 24.42-45falava no seu coração; tão somente se moviam os seus lábios, porém não se ouvia a sua voz. Por isso, julgou Eli que ela estava embriagada. 14 Disse-lhe Eli: *At 2.4,13Até quando estarás embriagada? Deixa passar de ti o teu vinho. 15 Ana respondeu: Não é assim, meu senhor; eu sou uma mulher atribulada de espírito; não bebi nem vinho nem bebida que possa embriagar, porém *Sl 62.8derramei a minha alma diante de Jeová. 16 Não tenhas a tua serva por filha de Belial, porque, *Lc 6.45movida pela abundância da minha queixa e da minha provocação, falei até agora. 17 Então, lhe respondeu Eli: *1Sm 25.35;2Rs 5.19;Mc 5.34Vai-te em paz; o Deus de Israel te *Sl 20.3-5conceda a petição que lhe fizeste. 18 Ela disse: *Rt 2.13Ache a tua serva graça aos teus olhos. Assim, a mulher foi o seu caminho e comeu, *Rm 15.13e não mais era triste o seu semblante.

Nasce Samuel e é consagrado a Deus

19 Tendo-se levantado de madrugada, adoraram perante Jeová, voltaram e chegaram à sua casa, em *1Sm 1.1;2.11Ramá. Elcana conheceu a sua mulher Ana; e *Gn 21.1;30.22Jeová lembrou-se dela. 20 Concebeu Ana e, tendo passado o período, deu à luz um filho e pôs-lhe por nome Samuel, dizendo: *Gn 41.51-52;Êx 2.10,22;Mt 1.21Porque de Jeová o pedi.

21 Subiu Elcana e toda a sua casa *1Sm 1.3;Dt 12.11a oferecer a Jeová o sacrifício anual e a cumprir o seu voto. 22 Mas Ana não subiu, pois disse a seu marido: Quando o menino for desmamado, *Lc 2.22levá-lo-ei, a fim de que ele apareça diante de Jeová *1Sm 1.11,28e a fim de que lá fique para sempre. 23 *Nm 30.10-11Respondeu-lhe Elcana, seu marido: Faze o que te parecer bem; fica até o desmamares, e *1Sm 1.17cumpra Jeová a sua palavra. Assim, ficou a mulher e deu leite a seu filho até que o desmamou. 24 Depois de o ter desmamado, *Nm 15.9-10;Dt 12.5-6levando consigo a ele, e três novilhos, e um efa de farinha, e um odre de vinho, o trouxe *1Sm 4.3-4;Js 18.1à Casa de Jeová, em Siló. O menino era ainda muito criança. 25 *Lv 1.5Depois de terem sacrificado o novilho, *Lc 2.22trouxeram o menino a Eli. 26 Ana disse: Ah! Meu senhor! *2Rs 2.2,4,6Tão certamente como vive a tua alma, senhor, eu sou a mulher que estive aqui na tua presença, orando a Jeová. 27 *1Sm 1.11-13A respeito deste menino orava eu, e Jeová me concedeu a petição que lhe fiz. 28 *1Sm 1.11,22Portanto, eu de minha parte o entreguei a Jeová; por todos os dias que ele viver, está entregue a Jeová. Então, adorou ali a Jeová.

1 Now there was a certain man of Ramathaim-zophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite: 2 And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children. 3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.*1.3 yearly: Heb. from year to year

4 And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions: 5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.*1.5 worthy: or, double 6 And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.*1.6 provoked: Heb. angered 7 And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.*1.7 when…: or, from the time that she, etc: Heb. from her going up 8 Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD. 10 And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.*1.10 in…: Heb. bitter of soul 11 And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.*1.11 a man…: Heb. seed of men 12 And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.*1.12 continued…: Heb. multiplied to pray 13 Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. 14 And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. 15 And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.*1.15 of a sorrowful…: Heb. hard of spirit 16 Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.*1.16 complaint: or, meditation 17 Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him. 18 And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

19 And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her. 20 Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.*1.20 when…: Heb. in revolution of days*1.20 Samuel: that is, Asked of God 21 And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow. 22 But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever. 23 And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young. 25 And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli. 26 And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD. 27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him: 28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD.
