O cântico de gratidão de Ana

1 Então, Ana *Hc 3.1;Sl 72.20;2.1-10;Lc 1.46-55orou e disse:

Alegra-se o meu coração em Jeová.

*Dt 33.17;Sl 89.17Exaltado é o meu poder em Jeová.

A minha boca dilata-se sobre os meus inimigos,

porque *Is 12.2-3eu me regozijo na tua salvação.

2 *Êx 15.11Ninguém há santo como Jeová;

pois *2Sm 22.32não há outro fora de ti,

*Dt 32.30-31nem há outra rocha como o nosso Deus.

3 Não continueis a falar tão orgulhosamente;

*Pv 8.13não saiam da vossa boca palavras arrogantes,

*1Sm 16.7;1Rs 8.39porque Jeová é Deus que tudo sabe,

*Pv 16.2;24.12e por ele são pesadas as ações.

11 Então, se retirou Elcana para sua casa, em *1Sm 1.1,19Ramá. *1Sm 1.28;2.18O menino, porém, ficou servindo a Jeová na presença do sacerdote Eli.

O pecado dos filhos de Eli

12 Ora, os filhos de Eli eram filhos de Belial; *Jr 2.8;9.3,6não conheciam a Jeová. 13 *Lv 7.29-34Este era o costume dos sacerdotes para com o povo: sempre que alguém oferecia um sacrifício, vinha o servo do sacerdote, quando se cozia a carne, tendo na mão o seu garfo de três dentes, 14 e metia-o na panela, ou no tacho, ou no caldeirão, ou na marmita. Tudo o que o garfo trazia para cima, tomava-o o sacerdote para si. Assim faziam em Siló a todos os israelitas que lá chegavam. 15 Ainda mais: antes que *Lv 3.3-5,16queimassem a gordura, vinha o servo do sacerdote e dizia ao homem que estava oferecendo o sacrifício: Dá carne de assar para o sacerdote, porque ele não receberá de ti carne cozida, mas crua. 16 Se lhe respondia o ofertante: Sem dúvida, logo há de ser queimada a gordura; então, tomarás quanto quiseres; replicava-lhe o servo: Não, porém hás de dar-ma agora; se não, tomá-la-ei à força. 17 Era muito grande o pecado desses moços diante de Jeová, pois o povo veio *Ml 2.7-9a desprezar a oferta de Jeová.

Eli repreende seus filhos

18 *1Sm 2.11;3.1Samuel, porém, ministrava diante de Jeová, *1Sm 2.28;22.18vestido de um éfode de linho. 19 Sua mãe fazia-lhe uma pequena *Êx 28.31túnica e, de ano em ano, lha trazia, quando subia em companhia de seu marido a oferecer *1Sm 1.3,21o sacrifício anual. 20 Eli *Lc 2.34abençoou a Elcana e a sua mulher e disse: Jeová te dê semente desta mulher em lugar *1Sm 1.11,27-28da que foi pedida a Jeová. Então, voltaram para sua casa. 21 *Gn 21.1Visitou Jeová a Ana, e ela concebeu e deu à luz três filhos e duas filhas. Entretanto, o *1Sm 2.26;3.19-21;Lc 2.40menino Samuel crescia diante de Jeová.

22 Ora, Eli era muito velho, mas ouvia *1Sm 2.13-17tudo o que faziam seus filhos a todo o Israel e como se deitavam com *Êx 38.8as mulheres que ministravam à porta da tenda da revelação. 23 Disse-lhes: Por que fazeis tais coisas? De todo este povo eu ouço falar dos vossos maus atos. 24 Não, filhos meus; pois não é boa a fama que eu ouço. *1Rs 15.26Estais fazendo transgredir o povo de Jeová. 25 Se o homem pecar contra outro, *Dt 1.17Deus o julgará; mas, *1Sm 3.14;Nm 15.30;Hb 10.26-27se um homem pecar contra Jeová, quem intercederá por ele? Todavia, não ouviram a voz de seu pai, porque *Êx 4.21;Js 11.20Jeová os queria matar. 26 Mas o menino *1Sm 2.21;Lc 2.52Samuel ia crescendo em estatura e no favor de Jeová bem como dos homens.

Profecia contra a casa de Eli

27 Veio *Dt 33.1;Jz 13.6um homem de Deus a Eli e disse-lhe: Assim diz Jeová: *Êx 4.14-16;12.1,43Não me revelei à casa de teu pai, quando eles estavam no Egito sujeitos à casa de Faraó? 28 *Êx 28.1-4;30.7-8;Lv 8.7-8Eu o escolhi dentre todas as tribos de Israel para ser o meu sacerdote, para subir ao meu altar, para queimar incenso e para trazer um éfode diante de mim; e dei à casa de teu pai todas as ofertas queimadas dos filhos de Israel. 29 Por que *1Sm 2.13-17pisastes aos pés os meus sacrifícios e as minhas ofertas *Dt 12.5-9que ordenei que se fizessem na minha *Sl 26.8habitação, e por que *Mt 10.37honras a teus filhos mais do que a mim, engordando-vos das melhores de todas as ofertas do meu povo de Israel? 30 Portanto, diz Jeová, Deus de Israel: *Êx 29.9;Nm 25.13Eu tinha dito que a tua casa e a casa de teu pai andariam para sempre diante de mim, mas, agora, diz Jeová: Longe de mim tal coisa, porque *Sl 50.23honrarei aos que me honram, e *Ml 2.9os que me desprezam serão tidos em pouca conta. 31 Eis que *1Sm 4.11-18;22.17-20vêm dias em que cortarei o teu braço e o braço da casa de teu pai, de sorte que não haja ancião em tua casa. 32 Em todo o bem que Deus fará a Israel verás *1Rs 2.26-27o aperto na minha habitação; e *Zc 8.4nunca haverá um ancião em tua casa. 33 O homem da tua linhagem a quem eu não cortar do meu altar será poupado para que os teus olhos se consumam, e a tua alma se entristeça; todos os descendentes da tua casa morrerão na flor da idade. 34 Será para ti por *1Sm 10.7-9;1Rs 13.3sinal o que sobrevirá a teus dois filhos, a Hofni e a Fineias: *1Sm 4.11,17no mesmo dia morrerão ambos. 35 *1Sm 3.1;7.9;9.12-13Eu suscitarei para mim um sacerdote fiel, que fará segundo tudo o que está no meu coração e na minha mente; *1Sm 8.3-5;1Rs 11.38edificar-lhe-ei uma casa duradoura, e ele andará sempre *1Sm 10.9-10;12.3;16.13diante do meu ungido. 36 Todo aquele que restar em tua casa virá e se prostrará diante dele por uma moeda de prata e por um pão e dirá: Rogo-te que me admitas a um dos cargos sacerdotais, para que eu coma um bocado de pão.

1 And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation. 2 There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God. 3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.*2.3 arrogancy: Heb. hard 4 The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength. 5 They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble. 6 The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up. 7 The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up. 8 He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD’s, and he hath set the world upon them. 9 He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail. 10 The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

11 And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

12 Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD. 13 And the priests’ custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest’s servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand; 14 And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither. 15 Also before they burnt the fat, the priest’s servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw. 16 And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.*2.16 presently: Heb. as on the day 17 Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

18 But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod. 19 Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.*2.20 loan…: or, petition which she asked, etc 21 And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

22 Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.*2.22 assembled: Heb. assembled by troops 23 And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.*2.23 of your…: or, evil words of you 24 Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD’s people to transgress.*2.24 transgress: or, cry out 25 If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them. 26 And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

27 And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh’s house? 28 And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel? 29 Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people? 30 Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed. 31 Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father’s house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house. 32 And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.*2.32 an enemy…: or, the affliction of the tabernacle, for all the wealth which God would have given Israel 33 And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.*2.33 in the flower…: Heb. men 34 And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them. 35 And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever. 36 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests’ offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.*2.36 Put: Heb.
