Das viúvas moças. Como se deve tratar a várias classes de pessoas

1 *cp.Lv 19.32Não repreendas com aspereza ao *Tt 2.2velho; antes, exorta-o como a pai; *Tt 2.6aos moços, como a irmãos; às mulheres idosas, como a mães; 2 às moças, como a irmãs, com toda a pureza. 3 Honra as viúvas que são *1Tm 5.5,16; cp.At 6.1;9.39,41verdadeiramente viúvas. 4 Mas, se alguma viúva tem filhos ou netos, *cp.Ef 6.2que estes aprendam primeiro a exercer piedade para com sua própria família e a retribuir a seus pais o que deles receberam, porque isso é *1Tm 2.3agradável diante de Deus. 5 Ora, aquela que é verdadeiramente viúva e desamparada *1Pe 3.5; cp.1Co 7.34espera em Deus e persevera, dia e noite, em *Lc 2.37; cp.1Tm 2.1;2Tm 1.3súplicas e orações; 6 ao passo que aquela que *cp.Tg 5.5vive nos prazeres, apesar de viver, *Ap 3.1; vd.Lc 15.24; cp.2Tm 3.6está morta. 7 Prescreve *vd.1Tm 4.11essas coisas, para que elas sejam irrepreensíveis. 8 Se alguém não cuida dos seus e especialmente dos de sua família, *2Tm 2.12;Tt 1.16;2Pe 2.1;Jd 4tem negado a fé e é pior que um incrédulo. 9 *cp.1Tm 5.16Seja registrada como viúva somente aquela que não tem menos de sessenta anos e que há tido *cp.1Tm 3.2um só marido, 10 aprovada com testemunho de *At 9.36;1Tm 6.18;1Pe 2.12; cp.Tt 2.7;3.8boas obras, se educou filhos, se exercitou a hospitalidade, *vd.Lc 7.44; cp.Jo 13.14se lavou os pés dos santos, *1Tm 5.16se socorreu os atribulados e se praticou toda a sorte de boas obras. 11 Mas rejeita viúvas moças, porque, quando se tiverem *Ap 18.7tornado inquietas sob o jugo de Cristo, querem casar-se 12 e são culpadas, porque violaram a primeira promessa. 13 Além disso, aprendem a ser ociosas, andando de casa em casa; e não somente ociosas, mas também *3Jo 10(Gr.)faladeiras e *vd.2Ts 3.11intrigantes, falando *Tt 1.11o que não devem. 14 *vd.1Tm 2.8Quero, pois, que as viúvas moças *1Co 7.9; cp.1Tm 4.3se casem, que tenham filhos, *cp.Tt 2.5que dirijam a sua casa e *cp.1Tm 6.1que não deem ocasião ao adversário de dizer mal. 15 Pois algumas já *cp.1Tm 1.20se desviaram para seguir *vd.Mt 4.10a Satanás. 16 Se alguma mulher crente *cp.1Tm 5.4tem viúvas, mantenha-as, e não seja gravada a igreja, para que esta possa aliviar as que são *vd.1Tm 5.3verdadeiramente viúvas.

Acerca dos presbíteros

17 Os *vd.At 11.30;1Tm 5.19; cp.1Tm 4.14(Gr.)presbíteros que *vd.Rm 12.8cumprem bem com os seus deveres sejam tidos por dignos de dobrada honra, especialmente os que *1Ts 5.12se ocupam na pregação e no ensino. 18 Pois a Escritura diz:

19 Não recebas acusação contra *vd.At 11.30;1Tm 5.17; cp.1Tm 4.14(Gr.)um presbítero, senão pela boca *vd.Mt 18.16de duas ou três testemunhas. 20 Aos que pecam, *Ef 5.11; cp.Gl 2.14;2Tm 4.2repreende-os diante de todos, *cp.2Co 7.11para que também os outros tenham medo. 21 *1Tm 6.13;2Tm 4.1;2.14; cp.Lc 9.26Eu te conjuro, diante de Deus, e de Jesus Cristo, e dos anjos escolhidos, que guardes esses conselhos sem prevenção, nada fazendo com espírito de parcialidade. 22 *vd.1Tm 4.14; cp.3.1,9A ninguém imponhas as mãos precipitadamente, nem *Ef 5.11; cp.1Tm 3.2-7participes dos pecados de outrem; conserva-te a ti mesmo puro. 23 Não bebas mais água só, mas *vd.1Tm 3.8usa de um pouco de vinho, por causa do teu estômago e das tuas frequentes indisposições. 24 Os pecados de alguns homens são notórios e precedem ao juízo, ao passo que, quanto a outros, *cp.Ap 14.13só depois deste se manifestam; 25 do mesmo modo, há boas obras que são manifestas; *cp.Pv 10.9e aquelas que não o são não podem ficar escondidas.

1 Rebuke not an elder, but intreat him as a father; and the younger men as brethren; 2 The elder women as mothers; the younger as sisters, with all purity. 3 Honour widows that are widows indeed. 4 But if any widow have children or nephews, let them learn first to shew piety at home, and to requite their parents: for that is good and acceptable before God. 5 Now she that is a widow indeed, and desolate, trusteth in God, and continueth in supplications and prayers night and day. 6 But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. 7 And these things give in charge, that they may be blameless. 8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel. 9 Let not a widow be taken into the number under threescore years old, having been the wife of one man, 10 Well reported of for good works; if she have brought up children, if she have lodged strangers, if she have washed the saints’ feet, if she have relieved the afflicted, if she have diligently followed every good work. 11 But the younger widows refuse: for when they have begun to wax wanton against Christ, they will marry; 12 Having damnation, because they have cast off their first faith. 13 And withal they learn to be idle, wandering about from house to house; and not only idle, but tattlers also and busybodies, speaking things which they ought not. 14 I will therefore that the younger women marry, bear children, guide the house, give none occasion to the adversary to speak reproachfully. 15 For some are already turned aside after Satan. 16 If any man or woman that believeth have widows, let them relieve them, and let not the church be charged; that it may relieve them that are widows indeed. 17 Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. 18 For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward. 19 Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses. 20 Them that sin rebuke before all, that others also may fear. 21 I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality. 22 Lay hands suddenly on no man, neither be partaker of other men’s sins: keep thyself pure. 23 Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for thy stomach’s sake and thine often infirmities. 24 Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after. 25 Likewise also the good works of some are manifest beforehand; and they that are otherwise cannot be hid.
