Abel e Caim

1 O homem conheceu a Eva, sua mulher; ela concebeu e, dando à luz a Caim, disse: Adquiri um homem com o auxílio de Jeová. 2 Tornou a dar à luz a um filho, a Abel, seu irmão. *Lc 11.50-51Abel foi *Gn 46.32;47.3pastor de ovelhas, mas Caim foi lavrador da terra. 3 Ao cabo de dias, trouxe Caim, do fruto da terra, uma oferta a Jeová. 4 *Hb 11.4Abel também trouxe dos primogênitos das suas ovelhas com as gorduras destas. *1Sm 15.22Jeová atentou para Abel e para a sua oferta; 5 mas *Nm 16.15;1Sm 16.7para Caim e para a sua oferta não atentou. *Is 3.9;Jd 11Irou-se Caim fortemente, e descaiu-lhe o semblante. 6 Perguntou-lhe Jeová: *Jn 4.4Por que andas tu irado? E por que te descaiu o semblante? 7 Porventura, *Jr 3.12;Mq 7.18se procederes bem, não terás levantado o teu semblante? E, *Nm 32.23se não procederes bem, o pecado jaz à porta; a ti será o seu desejo, *Jó 11.14-15;Rm 6.12,16mas tu dominarás sobre ele. 8 Caim o contou a seu irmão Abel. Sucedeu, pois, que, estando eles no campo, se levantou Caim contra seu irmão Abel e o *Mt 23.35;1Jo 3.12matou.

O primeiro homicídio

9 Perguntou Jeová a Caim: *Gn 3.9Onde está Abel, teu irmão? Respondeu ele: Não sei; sou eu o guarda de meu irmão? 10 Disse Jeová: Que fizeste? *Nm 35.33;Dt 21.1-9;Hb 12.24;Ap 6.9-10A voz do sangue de teu irmão está clamando a mim desde a terra. 11 Agora, *Gn 3.14maldito és tu desde a terra, que abriu a sua boca para da tua mão receber o sangue de teu irmão. 12 Quando *Dt 28.15-24;Jl 1.10-20lavrares o solo, não te dará mais a sua força; *Lv 26.17,36fugitivo e vagabundo serás na terra. 13 Disse Caim a Jeová: A minha punição é maior do que a que se pode suportar. 14 Eis que, hoje, me *Gn 3.24;Jr 52.3lanças da face da terra, e da tua presença serei escondido; *Dt 28.64-67serei fugitivo e vagabundo na terra; *Nm 35.19todo o que me encontrar matar-me-á. 15 *Rm 2.4Respondeu-lhe Jeová: Por isso, quem matar a Caim, sobre ele cairá a vingança *Gn 4.24sete vezes mais. Deu Jeová a Caim um sinal, de que não lhe daria a morte quem quer que o encontrasse.

Descendentes de Caim

16 Saiu Caim da presença de Jeová e habitou na terra de Node, ao oriente do Éden. 17 Conheceu Caim à sua mulher; ela concebeu e deu à luz a Enoque. Caim edificou uma cidade e chamou o nome da cidade do nome de seu filho, Enoque. 18 A Enoque nasceu Irade; Irade gerou a Meujael, Meujael gerou a Metusael, e Metusael gerou a Lameque. 19 Lameque tomou para si *Gn 2.24duas mulheres: o nome duma era Ada, e o nome da outra, Zilá. 20 Ada deu à luz a Jabal, que foi o pai dos que habitam em tendas e possuem gado. 21 O nome de seu irmão era Jubal, que foi o pai de todos os que tocam harpa e flauta. 22 Zilá também deu à luz um filho, Tubalcaim, fabricante de todo o instrumento cortante de cobre e de ferro; e a irmã de Tubalcaim foi Naamá. 23 Disse Lameque à suas mulheres:

Ada e Zilá, ouvi a minha voz;

Vós, mulheres de Lameque, escutai as minhas palavras:

*Êx 20.13;Lv 19.18;Dt 32.35;Sl 94.1pois matei um homem, porque me feriu;

e um mancebo, porque me pisou.

24 Se por Caim tomar-se-á vingança *Gn 4.15sete vezes,

com certeza, por Lameque o será setenta e sete vezes.

Nascimento de Sete

25 Tornou *Gn 5.3Adão a conhecer sua mulher; e ela deu à luz um filho, a quem pôs o nome de Sete, dizendo: Deus me deu outro filho em lugar de Abel, *Gn 4.8porquanto Caim o matou. 26 A Sete também nasceu *Lc 3.38um filho, a quem pôs o nome de Enos; foi nesse tempo que os homens começaram *Gn 12.8;26.25a invocar o nome de Jeová.

1 And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.*4.1 Cain: that is, Gotten, or, Acquired 2 And she again bare his brother Abel. 3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.*4.3 in process…: Heb. at the end of days 4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:*4.4 flock: Heb. sheep, or, goats 5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? 7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.*4.7 be accepted: or, have the excellency*4.7 unto…: or, subject unto thee 8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

9 And the LORD said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? 10 And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.*4.10 blood: Heb. bloods 11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand; 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength; a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth.

13 And Cain said unto the LORD, My punishment is greater than I can bear.*4.13 My…: or, Mine iniquity is greater than that it may be forgiven 14 Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass, that every one that findeth me shall slay me. 15 And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him.

16 And Cain went out from the presence of the LORD, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden. 17 And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare Enoch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.*4.17 Enoch: Heb. 19 And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah. 20 And Adah bare Jabal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. 21 And his brother’s name was Jubal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. 22 And Zillah, she also bare Tubal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tubal-cain was Naamah.*4.22 instructer: Heb. whetter

23 And Lamech said unto his wives, Adah and Zillah, Hear my voice; ye wives of Lamech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt.*4.23 I have…: or, I would slay a man in my wound, etc.*4.23 to my hurt: or, in my hurt 24 If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold.

25 And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew.*4.25 Seth: Heb.
