1 Vi quando o Cordeiro abriu um dos sete selos, e ouvi uma das quatro criaturas viventes dizendo como em voz de trovão: Vem.2 Olhei, e eis um cavalo branco, e o que estava montado sobre ele tinha um arco; foi-lhe dada uma coroa, e ele saiu vencendo, e para vencer.3 Quando ele abriu o segundo selo, ouvi a segunda criatura vivente dizendo: Vem.4 Saiu outro cavalo, vermelho, e ao que estava montado sobre ele, foi-lhe dado que tirasse da terra a paz, e que os homens se matassem uns aos outros. Foi-lhe entregue uma grande espada.5 Quando abriu o terceiro selo, ouvi a terceira criatura vivente dizendo: Vem. Olhei, e eis um cavalo preto, e o que estava montado sobre ele, tinha uma balança na mão.6 Ouvi uma como voz no meio das quatro criaturas viventes dizendo: Um queniz de trigo por um denário e três quenizes de cevada por um denário; mas não faças dano ao azeite nem ao vinho.7 Quando abriu o quarto selo, ouvi a voz da quarta criatura vivente dizendo: Vem.8 Olhei, e eis um cavalo amarelo, e o que estava montado sobre ele, chamava-se a Morte; o Hades seguia com ele, e foi-lhes dado poder sobre a quarta parte da terra, para matar com a espada, com a fome, com a peste, e pelas feras da terra.9 Quando abriu o quinto selo, vi debaixo do altar as almas daqueles que tinham sido mortos por causa da palavra de Deus e por causa do testemunho que mantinham.10 Clamaram com uma grande voz: Até quando, Senhor, santo e verdadeiro, deixas de julgar os que habitam sobre a terra e deles vingar o nosso sangue?11 A cada um deles foi dada uma vestidura branca; e foi-lhes dito que repousassem ainda por um pouco de tempo até que também se completasse o número dos seus conservos e seus irmãos, que deviam ser mortos como eles o foram.12 Vi quando abriu o sexto selo, e houve um grande terremoto; o sol tornou-se negro como um saco de cilício,13 a lua toda tornou-se como sangue, as estrelas do céu caíram sobre a terra como a figueira, agitada de um grande vento, deixa cair os seus figos verdes;14 o céu recolheu-se como um pergaminho quando se enrola, e todos os montes e ilhas foram removidos dos seus lugares.15 Os reis da terra, e os príncipes, e os quiliarcas, e os ricos, e os poderosos, e todo o escravo e todo o livre se esconderam nas cavernas e entre os penhascos dos montes;16 e diziam aos montes e aos rochedos: Cai sobre nós e escondei-nos da face daquele que está sentado sobre o trono, e da ira do Cordeiro,17 porque é chegado o grande dia da ira deles, e quem pode subsistir?

1 I saw the Lamb open one of the seven seals. And I heard one of the living creatures speak with a voice like thunder. He said: "Come!"2 I saw a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow. A crown was given to him and he conquered.3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say: "Come!"4 Another horse that was red went out: and power was given to him who sat on it to take peace from the earth. He was given a great sword so that men could kill one another.5 When he opened the third seal I heard the third beast say: "Come!" I saw a black horse; and he who sat on him had a pair of scales in his hand.6 I heard a voice in the midst of the four living creatures say: "A measure quart: U.S. dry. of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see that you do not hurt the oil and the wine."7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say: "Come!"8 I looked, and there was a pale horse. The name of the one who sat on him was Death. The grave followed him. Power was given to them over a fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with pestilence, and with the beasts of the earth.9 When the Lamb opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the persons who were slaughtered because of the word of God, and for the witness they gave.10 They cried with a loud voice, saying: "How long, O Lord, holy and true, before you judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?"11 Each of them was given a white robe. They were told that they should rest for a little while. They were to wait until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers, who would be killed, as they were, should be fulfilled.12 When he opened the sixth seal I saw a great earthquake. The sun became black as sackcloth of hair and the moon became like blood.13 The stars of the sky fell to the earth, even as a fig tree drops her unripe figs when she is shaken by a mighty wind.14 The sky was split apart like a scroll when it is rolled together. Every mountain and island was moved from their places.15 The kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the military commanders, and the mighty men, and every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains.16 They said to the mountains and rocks: "Fall on us, and hide us from the presence of him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:17 "For the great day of his wrath has come; and who will be able to stand?"
