1 No quarto ano do rei Dario veio a palavra de Jeová a Zacarias no quarto dia do nono mês, que é quisleu.2 Ora os de Betel tinham enviado Sarezer e Régem-Meleque, e seus homens, a suplicar o favor de Jeová,3 e a fazer aos sacerdotes da casa de Jeová dos exércitos, e aos profetas esta pergunta: Hei de eu chorar com jejum no quinto mês, como o tenho feito por tantos anos?4 Então veio a mim a palavra de Jeová dos exércitos, dizendo:5 Fala a todo o povo da terra, e aos sacerdotes: Quando jejuastes e pranteastes no quinto e no sétimo mês, durante estes setenta anos, acaso foi para mim, realmente para mim que jejuastes?6 Quando comeis, e quando bebeis, não sois vós os que comeis, e os que bebeis?7 Acaso não deveis ouvir as palavras que Jeová tem proferido por meio dos profetas anteriores, quando Jerusalém estava habitada e próspera, e as suas cidades circunvizinhas e o Neguebe e a Sefela estavam habitados?8 A palavra de Jeová veio a Zacarias, dizendo:9 Assim falou Jeová dos exércitos: Julgai juízo verdadeiro, e mostrai misericórdia e compaixão, cada um para com o seu irmão;10 não oprimais a viúva e o órfão, nem o estrangeiro e o pobre; nenhum de vós intente no seu coração o mal contra o seu irmão.11 Mas recusaram atender, e rebeldes voltaram a mim as costas, e fecharam os seus ouvidos para não ouvirem.12 Fizeram duros como diamante os seus corações, para não ouvirem a lei, nem as palavras que Jeová dos exércitos tinha enviado pelo seu espírito por intervenção dos profetas anteriores; portanto da parte de Jeová dos exércitos se acendeu grande ira.13 Como ele clamou, e eles não quiseram ouvir; assim eles clamarão, e eu não ouvirei, diz Jeová dos exércitos;14 mas os espalharei com um turbilhão por entre todas as nações que eles não têm conhecido. Assim a terra foi desolada atrás deles, de sorte que ninguém passava por ela, nem voltava, pois da terra apetecível fizeram uma desolação.

1 The word of Jehovah came to Zechariah in the fourth year of King Darius. It was the fourth day of the ninth month that is Chislev.2 Now they of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to request the favor of Jehovah.3 Therefore speak to the priests of the house of Jehovah of Hosts, and say to the prophets: »Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these many years?«4 Then came the word of Jehovah of Hosts to me:5 »Speak to all the people of the land and to the priests, saying: ‘For the past seventy years did you fast for me when you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months?6 ‘»Did you eat for yourselves and drink for yourselves?7 »‘Should you hear the words that Jehovah cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities near her and the South and the lowland were inhabited?’«8 And the word of Jehovah came to Zechariah:9 »Jehovah of Hosts has spoken: Every man should execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion to his brother!10 »Do not oppress the widow. Do not oppress the fatherless. Do not oppress the stranger and do not oppress the poor. And you should not devise evil in your heart against your brother.11 »They refused to pay heed, turned a stubborn shoulder resisted, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear.12 »They made their hearts hard like flint and would not listen to the law, and the words that Jehovah of Hosts sent by his Spirit through the former prophets. Great anger came from Jehovah of Hosts!«13 »‘I cried, and they would not listen. Now they will cry, and I will not listen,’ said Jehovah of Hosts!14 ‘I will scatter them with a whirlwind among the nations that they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned. They tread down the pleasant land and made it desolate.’«
