Prefácio e saudação

Ação de graças pelo conforto que Deus lhe concedeu

3 *Ef 1.3;1Pe 1.3Bendito seja o Deus e Pai de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo, o Pai de misericórdias e *Rm 15.5Deus de todo o conforto, 4 que *2Co 7.6-7,13; cp.Is 51.12;66.13nos conforta em toda a nossa tribulação, para podermos confortar aqueles que se acham em qualquer tribulação, pelo conforto com que nós mesmos somos confortados por Deus. 5 Pois, *cp.2Co 4.10;Fp 3.10;Cl 1.24assim como para conosco crescem os sofrimentos de Cristo, assim também por Cristo cresce o nosso conforto. 6 Mas, se somos atribulados, é *2Tm 2.10; cp.2Co 4.15;12.15;Ef 3.1,13para o vosso conforto e salvação; se somos confortados, é para o vosso conforto, o qual opera no suportar com fortaleza os mesmos sofrimentos que nós também sofremos. 7 A nossa esperança por vós é firme, sabendo que, *Rm 8.17como sois participantes dos sofrimentos, assim também o sereis do conforto. 8 Pois *Rm 1.13não queremos que vós ignoreis, irmãos, *At 19.23;1Co 15.32(?)a tribulação que nos sobreveio na *At 16.6Ásia, como fomos excessivamente sobrecarregados além das nossas forças, a ponto de perder a esperança até da vida. 9 Mas nós temos tido, dentro de nós mesmos, a sentença de morte, para que não confiássemos em nós mesmos, porém no Deus que ressuscita os mortos; 10 o *Rm 15.31qual nos livrou de tão terrível morte e nos livrará; *1Tm 4.10no qual temos esperado que também ainda nos livrará, 11 *cp.Rm 15.30;Fp 1.19;Fm 22ajudando-nos vós também com súplicas a nosso favor, para que, por *cp.2Co 4.15;9.11s.muitas pessoas, sejam dadas graças por nós pelo dom que nos foi concedido por meio de muitos.

Paulo tem a sua consciência tranquila

12 Pois a nossa glória é esta: o testemunho da *At 23.1; cp.1Ts 2.10;Hb 13.18nossa consciência, de que, em santidade e *2Co 2.17sinceridade de Deus, *1Co 1.17; cp.Tg 3.15não em sabedoria carnal, mas, na graça de Deus, nos temos comportado no mundo, e mais especialmente para convosco. 13 Pois não vos escrevemos outra coisa, senão aquilo que ou ledes ou mesmo reconheceis; e espero que o reconhecereis *1Co 1.8até o fim; 14 assim também nos reconhecestes em parte, que somos a vossa glória, assim como vós também sois a nossa no Dia de nosso Senhor Jesus.

15 Nesta, confiança, era a minha intenção, primeiro, *cp.1Co 4.19ir ter convosco, para que recebêsseis um segundo *Rm 1.11;15.29benefício; 16 e, por vós, *cp.At 19.21;1Co 16.5-7passar à *Rm 15.26Macedônia, e da Macedônia ir ter outra vez convosco, e ser por vós *At 15.3; cp.1Co 16.6,11encaminhado até a *At 19.21Judeia. 17 Tendo eu, portanto, esta intenção, usei, porventura, de leviandade? Acaso, as coisas que proponho, proponho-as *2Co 10.2s.; cp.11.18segundo a carne, para que haja comigo o sim, sim e o não, não? 18 Mas, como *1Co 1.9Deus é fiel, *cp.2Co 2.17a nossa palavra a vós não é sim e não. 19 Pois *Mt 16.16;26.63, etc.;Mt 4.3o Filho de Deus, Cristo Jesus, que entre vós foi pregado por nós, a saber, por mim, *1Ts 1.1;2Ts 1.1;1Pe 5.12; cp.At 15.22Silvano *2Co 1.1e Timóteo, não se tornou sim e não, mas *cp.Hb 13.8nele é sim. 20 Por isso, *Rm 15.8tantas quantas forem as promessas de Deus, nele está o sim; porquanto também por ele é o *1Co 14.16; cp.Ap 3.14amém para a glória de Deus, por nosso intermédio. 21 Aquele que nos *1Co 1.8confirma convosco em Cristo e *cp.1Jo 2.20,27nos ungiu é Deus, 22 que também *Jo 3.33imprimiu em nós o seu selo e, em nossos corações *2Co 5.5;Ef 1.14; cp.Rm 8.16deu o penhor do Espírito.

23 Mas *Rm 1.9; cp.Gl 1.20eu tomo a Deus por testemunha sobre a minha alma, de que, *1Co 4.21; cp.2Co 2.1,3para vos poupar, é que não fui mais a *2Co 1.1Corinto. 24 Não porque temos *1Pe 5.3; cp.2Co 4.5;11.20domínio sobre a vossa fé, mas porque somos cooperadores do vosso gozo; pois, pela fé, *Rm 11.20; cp.1Co 15.1estais firmes.

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ*1:1 "Christ" means "Anointed One". Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, to the assembly of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints who are in the whole of Achaia: 2 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ. 6 But if we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation. If we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer. 7 Our hope for you is steadfast, knowing that, since you are partakers of the sufferings, so you are also of the comfort.

8 For we don’t desire to have you uninformed, brothers,*1:8 The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." concerning our affliction which happened to us in Asia: that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, so much that we despaired even of life. 9 Yes, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raises the dead, 10 who delivered us out of so great a death, and does deliver, on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us, 11 you also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift given to us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on your*1:11 + MT: your; TR and NU: our behalf.

12 For our boasting is this: the testimony of our conscience that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly toward you. 13 For we write no other things to you than what you read or even acknowledge, and I hope you will acknowledge to the end— 14 as also you acknowledged us in part—that we are your boasting, even as you also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

15 In this confidence, I was determined to come first to you, that you might have a second benefit, 16 and by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come to you, and to be sent forward by you on my journey to Judea. 17 When I therefore planned this, did I show fickleness? Or the things that I plan, do I plan according to the flesh, that with me there should be the "Yes, yes" and the "No, no?" 18 But as God is faithful, our word toward you was not "Yes and no." 19 For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not "Yes and no," but in him is "Yes." 20 For however many are the promises of God, in him is the "Yes." Therefore also through him is the "Amen", to the glory of God through us.

21 Now he who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, 22 who also sealed us and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

23 But I call God for a witness to my soul, that to spare you, I didn’t come to Corinth. 24 We don’t control your faith, but are fellow workers with you for your joy. For you stand firm in faith.
