Salomão pede a Hirão, rei de Tiro, que o ajude na construção do templo

1 *1Rs 5.5Resolveu Salomão edificar uma casa ao nome de Jeová e uma casa para o seu reino. 2 Contou *2Cr 2.18;1Rs 5.15-16Salomão setenta mil homens para servirem de carregadores, oitenta mil, para cortarem pedras nos montes e três mil e seiscentos, para serem inspetores sobre eles. 3 *1Rs 5.2-11Salomão mandou dizer a Hirão, rei de Tiro: *1Cr 14.1Do mesmo modo que fizeste com Davi, meu pai, e lhe enviaste cedros para lhe edificar uma casa em que morasse, assim também faze comigo. 4 Eis que eu estou para edificar uma casa ao nome de Jeová, meu Deus, para lha dedicar, *Êx 30.7para queimar diante dele incenso aromático, *Êx 25.30para que não faltem os pães da proposição, e *Êx 29.38-42para os holocaustos da manhã e da tarde, *Nm 28.9-10nos sábados, nas luas novas e nas festas fixas de Jeová, nosso Deus. Para Israel é isso obrigação perpétua. 5 A casa que eu estou para edificar deve ser grande, porque *Êx 15.11;1Cr 16.25o nosso Deus é grande sobre todos os deuses. 6 Mas *2Cr 6.18;1Rs 8.27quem é capaz de lhe edificar uma casa, visto que o céu e o céu dos céus o não podem conter? Eis que *2Cr 9.10-11os meus servos estarão com os teus, 9 para me prepararem madeiras em abundância, porque a casa que eu estou para edificar será grande e maravilhosa. 10 Darei aos teus servos que cortarem madeiras vinte mil coros de trigo batido, vinte mil coros de cevada, vinte mil batos de vinho e vinte mil batos de azeite.

Hirão consente em ajudá-lo

11 Hirão, rei de Tiro, respondeu numa carta que enviou a Salomão: *2Cr 9.8;1Rs 10.9Porque Jeová ama ao seu povo, te constituiu rei sobre ele. 12 Disse mais Hirão: Bendito seja *Sl 33.6;102.25Jeová, Deus de Israel, que fez o céu e a terra, que deu ao rei Davi um filho sábio, dotado de discrição e de entendimento, *2Cr 2.1o qual edificasse uma casa a Jeová e uma casa para o seu reino! 13 Eu te envio um homem perito, dotado de entendimento, Hirão-Abi, 14 *1Rs 7.14filho de uma mulher das filhas de Dã, cujo pai era de Tiro, que sabe trabalhar em ouro, em prata, em bronze, em ferro, em pedra, em madeira, em púrpura, em azul, em linho fino e em carmesim; que sabe também fazer toda sorte de obra de entalhe e idear qualquer coisa necessária; para que lhe seja designado um lugar juntamente com os teus peritos e com os peritos de teu pai Davi, meu senhor. 15 Agora, mande meu senhor aos seus servos o trigo, a cevada, o azeite e o vinho *2Cr 2.10de que falou; 16 e *1Rs 5.8-9nós cortaremos tanta madeira do Líbano quanta houveres mister e a traremos, em jangadas, pelo mar até Jope; e tu mandarás transportá-la para Jerusalém.

17 Salomão mandou fazer uma resenha de todos os estrangeiros que havia na terra de Israel, *1Cr 22.2depois da resenha que tinha mandado fazer seu pai Davi; e acharam-se cento e cinquenta e três mil e seiscentos. 18 *2Cr 2.2Destes escolheu setenta mil para servirem de carregadores, e oitenta mil, para cortarem pedras nos montes, e três mil e seiscentos, para fazerem trabalhar o povo.

1 Now Solomon decided to build a house for Yahweh’s name, and a house for his kingdom. 2 Solomon counted out seventy thousand men to bear burdens, eighty thousand men who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred to oversee them.

3 Solomon sent to Huram the king of Tyre, saying, "As you dealt with David my father, and sent him cedars to build him a house in which to dwell, so deal with me. 4 Behold,*2:4 "Behold", from "הִנֵּה", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. I am about to build a house for the name of Yahweh my God, to dedicate it to him, to burn before him incense of sweet spices, for the continual show bread, and for the burnt offerings morning and evening, on the Sabbaths, on the new moons, and on the set feasts of Yahweh our God. This is an ordinance forever to Israel.

5 "The house which I am building will be great, for our God is greater than all gods. 6 But who is able to build him a house, since heaven and the heaven of heavens can’t contain him? Who am I then, that I should build him a house, except just to burn incense before him?

7 "Now therefore send me a man skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, and in purple, crimson, and blue, and who knows how to engrave engravings, to be with the skillful men who are with me in Judah and in Jerusalem, whom David my father provided.

8 "Send me also cedar trees, cypress trees, and algum trees out of Lebanon, for I know that your servants know how to cut timber in Lebanon. Behold, my servants will be with your servants, 9 even to prepare timber in abundance for me; for the house which I am about to build will be great and wonderful. 10 Behold, I will give to your servants, the cutters who cut timber, twenty thousand cors*2:10 1 cor is the same as a homer, or about 55.9 U. S. gallons (liquid) or 211 liters or 6 bushels, so 20,000 cors of wheat would weigh about 545 metric tons of beaten wheat, twenty thousand baths*2:10 1 bath is one tenth of a cor, or about 5.6 U. S. gallons or 21 liters or 2.4 pecks. 20,000 baths of barley would weigh about 262 metric tons. of barley, twenty thousand baths of wine, and twenty thousand baths of oil."

11 Then Huram the king of Tyre answered in writing, which he sent to Solomon, "Because Yahweh loves his people, he has made you king over them." 12 Huram continued, "Blessed be Yahweh, the God of Israel, who made heaven and earth, who has given to David the king a wise son, endowed with discretion and understanding, who would build a house for Yahweh and a house for his kingdom.

13 Now I have sent a skillful man, endowed with understanding, Huram-abi,*2:13 or, Huram, my father 14 the son of a woman of the daughters of Dan; and his father was a man of Tyre. He is skillful to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in iron, in stone, in timber, in purple, in blue, in fine linen, and in crimson, also to engrave any kind of engraving and to devise any device, that there may be a place appointed to him with your skillful men, and with the skillful men of my lord David your father.

15 "Now therefore, the wheat, the barley, the oil, and the wine which my lord has spoken of, let him send to his servants; 16 and we will cut wood out of Lebanon, as much as you need. We will bring it to you in rafts by sea to Joppa; then you shall carry it up to Jerusalem."

17 Solomon counted all the foreigners who were in the land of Israel, after the census with which David his father had counted them; and they found one hundred fifty-three thousand six hundred. 18 He set seventy thousand of them to bear burdens, eighty thousand who were stone cutters in the mountains, and three thousand six hundred overseers to assign the people their work.
