O remédio para o pecado e o sinal de que é eficaz

Se alguém pecar, *Rm 8.34;1Tm 2.5;Hb 7.25;9.24temos para com o Pai um *Jo 14.16Paráclito, Jesus Cristo, o Justo; 2 ele é a *1Jo 4.10;Rm 3.25;Hb 2.17propiciação pelos nossos pecados e não somente pelos nossos, mas também *1Jo 4.14;Jo 4.42;11.51s.pelos de todo o mundo. 3 *1Jo 2.5;1Jo 3.24;4.13;5.2Sabemos por isto que *1Jo 2.4;1Jo 3.6;4.7s.o conhecemos: *1Jo 3.22,24;5.3;Jo 14.15;15.10;Ap 12.17;14.12se guardarmos os seus mandamentos. 4 Aquele que diz *Tt 1.16que o conhece e não guarda os seus mandamentos é *1Jo 1.6mentiroso, e *1Jo 1.8a verdade não está nele; 5 mas aquele que *Jo 14.23guardar a sua palavra, nele, *1Jo 4.12o amor de Deus é realmente perfeito. *1Jo 2.3Por isto conhecemos que estamos nele: 6 aquele que diz que *Jo 15.4permanece nele *Jo 13.15;15.10;1Pe 2.21deve, também, andar como ele andou.

Quem ama a seu irmão permanece na luz

7 *1Jo 3.2,21;4.1,7,11;Hb 6.9Amados, não vos escrevo *1Jo 3.11,23;4.21;2Jo 5um mandamento novo, mas um mandamento antigo, que tendes tido *1Jo 2.24;3.11;2Jo 5,6desde o princípio; esse mandamento antigo é a palavra que ouvistes. 8 Entretanto, é *Jo 13.34um novo mandamento que vos escrevo, o qual é verdadeiro nele e em vós, porque *Ef 5.8;1Ts 5.4s.;Rm 13.12as trevas se estão dissipando, e *Jo 1.9a verdadeira luz já brilha. 9 Aquele que diz estar na luz e *1Jo 2.11;1Jo 3.15;4.20aborrece a seu *1Jo 3.10,16;4.20s.; cp.At 1.15irmão, até agora, está nas trevas. 10 *1Jo 2.10-11; cp.Jo 11.9, ref.Aquele que ama a seu irmão permanece na luz, e não há nele motivo de tropeço; 11 *Jo 12.35;1Jo 1.6mas aquele que aborrece a seu irmão anda nas trevas e não sabe para onde vai, porque as trevas lhe *cp.2Co 4.4;2Pe 1.9cegaram os olhos.

Coisas temporais e eternas

12 Eu vos escrevo, *1Jo 2.1filhinhos, porque os *1Co 6.11;At 13.38vossos pecados são perdoados por amor do seu nome. 13 Eu vos escrevo, pais, porque conheceis aquele *1Jo 1.1que existe desde o princípio. Eu vos escrevo, moços, porque *1Jo 2.14; cp.1Jo 4.4;5.4s.;Ap 2.7;Jo 16.33tendes vencido *Mt 5.37;1Jo 2.14;1Jo 3.12;5.18s.o Maligno. Eu vos escrevi, meninos, porque *1Jo 2.3;Jo 14.7conheceis o Pai. 14 Eu vos escrevi, pais, porque conheceis aquele *1Jo 1.1que existe desde o princípio. Eu vos escrevi, moços, porque sois *Ef 6.10fortes, porque *1Jo 1.10;Jo 5.38; cp.8.37a palavra de Deus permanece em vós, e porque *1Jo 2.13tendes vencido o Maligno. 15 Não ameis *Tg 1.27; cp.Rm 12.2o mundo nem as coisas que há no mundo. *Tg 4.4Se alguém ama o mundo, o amor do Pai não está nele; 16 porque tudo o que há no mundo, *Rm 13.14;Ef 2.3;1Pe 2.11a cobiça da carne, *Pv 27.20a cobiça dos olhos e *Tg 4.16a vaidade da vida, não vem do Pai, mas, sim, do mundo. 17 Ora, o *1Co 7.31mundo passa e a sua cobiça; mas aquele que faz a vontade de Deus permanece para sempre.

A revelação da mentira e da verdade

18 Filhinhos, *Rm 13.11;1Tm 4.1;1Pe 4.7esta é a última hora; e, como ouvistes que vem o *1Jo 2.22;4.3;2Jo 7; cp.Mt 24.5,24anticristo, *1Jo 4.1,3; cp.Mc 13.22já se têm levantado muitos anticristos, pelo que conhecemos que é a última hora.

19 *At 20.30Saíram de nós, mas não eram de nós; porque, se tivessem sido de nós, teriam permanecido conosco; mas eles saíram, *cp.1Co 11.19para que fossem conhecidos que todos estes não são de nós. 20 Vós tendes uma *1Jo 2.27;2Co 1.21unção do *Mc 1.24; cp.At 10.38Santo e todos *1Jo 2.27; cp.Pv 28.5;Mt 13.11;Jo 14.26;1Co 2.15s.tendes conhecimento. 21 Não vos escrevi porque ignorais a verdade, mas *cp.Tg 1.19;2Pe 1.12;Jd 5porque a sabeis, e porque mentira alguma vem *1Jo 3.19; cp.Jo 8.44;18.37da verdade. 22 Quem é o mentiroso, senão *1Jo 4.3;2Jo 7aquele que nega que Jesus é o Cristo? O anticristo é aquele que nega o Pai e o Filho. 23 *1Jo 4.15;5.1;2Jo 9; cp.Jo 8.19;16.3;17.3Todo o que nega o Filho não tem o Pai; quem confessa o Filho tem também o Pai. 24 O que vós, porém, ouvistes *1Jo 2.7desde o princípio permaneça em vós. Se o que ouvistes desde o princípio permanecer em vós, *1Jo 1.3; cp.Jo 14.23;2Jo 9permanecereis vós também no Filho e no Pai. 25 *Jo 3.15;6.40;1Jo 1.2Esta é a promessa que ele mesmo nos fez, a saber, a vida eterna. 26 Eu vos escrevi essas coisas a respeito daqueles que *1Jo 3.7; cp.2Jo 7vos desencaminham. 27 *1Jo 2.20; cp.Jo 14.16A unção que dele recebestes permanece em vós, e não tendes necessidade de que alguém vos ensine; mas, como a sua unção *Jo 14.26;1Co 2.12;1Ts 4.9vos ensina em todas as coisas, e ela é *Jo 14.17verdadeira e não mentirosa, e como ela vos ensinou, permaneceis nele. 28 Agora, *1Jo 2.1filhinhos, permanecei nele, para que, se ele *1Jo 3.2;Cl 3.4;Lc 17.30aparecer, tenhamos *1Jo 3.21;4.17;5.14;Ef 3.12confiança e dele não *cp.Mc 8.38nos afastemos envergonhados na sua *1Ts 2.19vinda. 29 Se souberdes que *1Jo 3.7;Jo 7.18ele é justo, reconhecei também que todo aquele que pratica a justiça é *1Jo 3.9;4.7;5.1,4,18;3Jo 11;Jo 1.13;3.3nascido dele.

1 My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor*2:1 Greek παρακλητον: Counselor, Helper, Intercessor, Advocate, and Comforter. with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. 2 And he is the atoning sacrifice*2:2 "atoning sacrifice" is from the Greek "ιλασμος", an appeasing, propitiating, or the means of appeasement or propitiation—the sacrifice that turns away God’s wrath because of our sin. for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the whole world. 3 This is how we know that we know him: if we keep his commandments. 4 One who says, "I know him," and doesn’t keep his commandments, is a liar, and the truth isn’t in him. 5 But God’s love has most certainly been perfected in whoever keeps his word. This is how we know that we are in him: 6 he who says he remains in him ought himself also to walk just like he walked.

7 Brothers, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning. 8 Again, I write a new commandment to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light already shines. 9 He who says he is in the light and hates his brother is in the darkness even until now. 10 He who loves his brother remains in the light, and there is no occasion for stumbling in him. 11 But he who hates his brother is in the darkness, and walks in the darkness, and doesn’t know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes.

12 I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

13 I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I write to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

I write to you, little children, because you know the Father.

14 I have written to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning.

I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God remains in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

15 Don’t love the world or the things that are in the world. If anyone loves the world, the Father’s love isn’t in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—isn’t the Father’s, but is the world’s. 17 The world is passing away with its lusts, but he who does God’s will remains forever.

18 Little children, these are the end times, and as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen. By this we know that it is the final hour. 19 They went out from us, but they didn’t belong to us; for if they had belonged to us, they would have continued with us. But they left, that they might be revealed that none of them belong to us. 20 You have an anointing from the Holy One, and you all have knowledge.*2:20 Or, "know what is true", or, "know all things" 21 I have not written to you because you don’t know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. 22 Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the Antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. 23 Whoever denies the Son doesn’t have the Father. He who confesses the Son has the Father also.*2:23 MT omits: He who confesses the Son has the Father also.

24 Therefore, as for you, let that remain in you which you heard from the beginning. If that which you heard from the beginning remains in you, you also will remain in the Son, and in the Father. 25 This is the promise which he promised us, the eternal life.

26 These things I have written to you concerning those who would lead you astray. 27 As for you, the anointing which you received from him remains in you, and you don’t need for anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is no lie, and even as it taught you, you will remain in him.

28 Now, little children, remain in him, that when he appears, we may have boldness and not be ashamed before him at his coming. 29 If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.
