Paulo em Corinto

1 Depois disso, Paulo partiu de *At 17.15Atenas e foi a *At 19.1;1Co 1.2;2Co 1.1-23;2Tm 4.20; cp.At 18.8;2Co 6.11Corinto. 2 Achando um judeu por nome *At 18.18,26;Rm 16.3;1Co 16.19;2Tm 4.19Áquila, natural do *At 2.9Ponto, recém-chegado da *At 27.1,6;Hb 13.24Itália, e Priscila, sua mulher (por ter *At 11.28Cláudio decretado que todos os judeus saíssem de Roma), foi ter com eles 3 e, por ser do mesmo ofício, com eles morava, e *At 20.34;1Co 4.12;1Ts 2.9;2Ts 3.8; cp.1Co 9.15;2Co 11.7;12.13;1Ts 4.11ali trabalhavam; pois o ofício deles era fabricar tendas. 4 Todos os *At 13.14sábados discutia ele *At 9.20;At 18.19na sinagoga e persuadia a *At 14.1judeus e a gregos.

Paulo prega a Jesus

5 Quando *At 17.14; vd.15.22;16.1Silas e Timóteo *At 17.15desceram da *At 16.9Macedônia, Paulo estava ativamente ocupado com a palavra, *At 20.21;Lc 16.28testificando aos judeus que *At 17.3;At 18.28Jesus era o Cristo. 6 Mas, como eles se opusessem e blasfemassem, *cp.Ne 5.13;At 13.51sacudindo ele as vestes, disse-lhes: *2Sm 1.16;1Rs 2.33;Ez 18.13;33.4,6,8;Mt 27.25; cp.At 20.26O vosso sangue venha sobre a vossa cabeça; eu estou limpo e desde agora vou *At 13.46para os gentios. 7 Saindo dali, entrou em casa de um homem chamado Tício Justo, *At 16.14; cp.At 13.43que era temente a Deus, e cuja casa era contígua à sinagoga. 8 *1Co 1.14Crispo, *Mc 5.22chefe da sinagoga, creu no Senhor, *At 11.14com toda a sua casa; e muitos *At 18.1coríntios, ouvindo, criam e eram batizados. 9 De noite, disse o Senhor a Paulo, em *At 9.10uma visão: Não temas, mas fala e não te cales; 10 porque eu sou contigo, e ninguém te porá a mão para te fazer mal, pois tenho muito povo nesta cidade. 11 Ali ficou um ano e seis meses, ensinando entre eles a palavra de Deus.

Paulo perante Gálio

12 Sendo Gálio *At 13.7procônsul da *At 18.27;At 19.21;Rm 15.26;1Co 16.15;2Co 1.1;9.2;11.10;1Ts 1.7s.Acaia, levantaram-se *1Ts 2.16os judeus de comum acordo contra Paulo e, levando-o ao *Mt 27.19tribunal, 13 disseram: Este persuade os homens a adorar a Deus de um modo contrário *At 18.15; cp.Jo 19.7à Lei. 14 Estando Paulo para falar, disse Gálio aos judeus: Se fosse, com efeito, alguma injustiça ou crime perverso, ó judeus, de razão seria atender-vos; 15 mas, se são *At 23.29;25.19questões de palavras, de nomes e da vossa Lei, cuidai vós lá disso; eu não quero ser juiz dessas coisas. 16 E fê-los sair do *Mt 27.19tribunal. 17 Todos pegaram em *1Cr 1.1(?)Sóstenes, *At 18.8chefe da sinagoga, e o espancavam diante do tribunal; e Gálio não se importava com nenhuma dessas coisas.

Paulo leva consigo Priscila e Áquila até Éfeso. A terceira viagem missionária

18 Paulo, tendo ficado ali ainda muitos dias, *Mc 6.46despediu-se dos *At 1.15;At 18.27irmãos e navegou com *At 18.2,26Priscila e Áquila para a *Mt 4.24Síria, depois de haver mandado *Nm 6.2,5,9,18;At 21.24rapar a cabeça em *Rm 16.1Cencreia, pois tinha voto. 19 Chegados a *At 18.21,24;At 19.1,17,26,28,34-35;20.16-17;21.29;1Co 15.32;16.8;Ef 1.1;1Tm 1.3;2Tm 1.18;4.12;Ap 1.11;2.1Éfeso, deixou-os ali; mas ele, entrando *At 18.4na sinagoga, discutiu com os judeus. 20 Rogando-lhe estes que ficasse mais tempo, não anuiu, 21 mas despediu-se, dizendo: *1Co 4.19;16.7;Hb 6.3;Tg 4.15; cp.Rm 1.10;15.32;1Pe 3.17Se Deus permitir, de novo, voltarei a vós. Navegou de Éfeso, 22 e, chegando *At 8.40a Cesareia, depois de subir a Jerusalém e saudar a igreja, desceu a *At 11.19Antioquia. 23 Havendo estado ali algum tempo, saiu, atravessando sucessivamente a região *At 16.6gálata e a Frígia, fortalecendo a todos os discípulos.

Apolo chega a Éfeso

24 Chegou a *At 18.19Éfeso um judeu chamado *At 19.1;1Co 1.12;3.5-6,22;4.6;16.12;Tt 3.13Apolo, natural de *At 6.9Alexandria, homem eloquente e muito versado nas Escrituras. 25 Era ele instruído no *cp.At 9.2;At 18.26Caminho do Senhor, e, sendo fervoroso de espírito, falava, e ensinava com precisão as coisas concernentes a Jesus, apesar de conhecer somente *cp.Lc 7.29;At 19.3o batismo de João; 26 e ele começou a falar ousadamente na sinagoga. Mas, quando *At 18.2,18Priscila e Áquila o ouviram, levaram-no consigo e expuseram-lhe com mais precisão o *cp.At 18.25Caminho de Deus. 27 Querendo ele passar para a *At 18.12; cp.19.1Acaia, *At 18.18os irmãos animaram-no e escreveram aos *At 11.26discípulos que o recebessem. Tendo ele chegado, auxiliou muito aqueles que, pela graça, haviam crido; 28 pois com grande poder refutava publicamente os judeus, mostrando, *At 8.35pelas Escrituras, que *At 18.5Jesus era o Cristo.

1 After these things Paul departed from Athens and came to Corinth. 2 He found a certain Jew named Aquila, a man of Pontus by race, who had recently come from Italy with his wife Priscilla, because Claudius had commanded all the Jews to depart from Rome. He came to them, 3 and because he practiced the same trade, he lived with them and worked, for by trade they were tent makers. 4 He reasoned in the synagogue every Sabbath and persuaded Jews and Greeks.

5 When Silas and Timothy came down from Macedonia, Paul was compelled by the Spirit, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. 6 When they opposed him and blasphemed, he shook out his clothing and said to them, "Your blood be on your own heads! I am clean. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles!"

7 He departed there and went into the house of a certain man named Justus, one who worshiped God, whose house was next door to the synagogue. 8 Crispus, the ruler of the synagogue, believed in the Lord with all his house. Many of the Corinthians, when they heard, believed and were baptized. 9 The Lord said to Paul in the night by a vision, "Don’t be afraid, but speak and don’t be silent; 10 for I am with you, and no one will attack you to harm you, for I have many people in this city."

11 He lived there a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them. 12 But when Gallio was proconsul of Achaia, the Jews with one accord rose up against Paul and brought him before the judgment seat, 13 saying, "This man persuades men to worship God contrary to the law."

14 But when Paul was about to open his mouth, Gallio said to the Jews, "If indeed it were a matter of wrong or of wicked crime, you Jews, it would be reasonable that I should bear with you; 15 but if they are questions about words and names and your own law, look to it yourselves. For I don’t want to be a judge of these matters." 16 So he drove them from the judgment seat.

17 Then all the Greeks seized Sosthenes, the ruler of the synagogue, and beat him before the judgment seat. Gallio didn’t care about any of these things.

18 Paul, having stayed after this many more days, took his leave of the brothers,*18:18 The word for "brothers" here and where the context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." and sailed from there for Syria, together with Priscilla and Aquila. He shaved his head in Cenchreae, for he had a vow. 19 He came to Ephesus, and he left them there; but he himself entered into the synagogue and reasoned with the Jews. 20 When they asked him to stay with them a longer time, he declined; 21 but taking his leave of them, he said, "I must by all means keep this coming feast in Jerusalem, but I will return again to you if God wills." Then he set sail from Ephesus.

22 When he had landed at Caesarea, he went up and greeted the assembly, and went down to Antioch. 23 Having spent some time there, he departed and went through the region of Galatia and Phrygia, in order, establishing all the disciples. 24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, an Alexandrian by race, an eloquent man, came to Ephesus. He was mighty in the Scriptures. 25 This man had been instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in spirit, he spoke and taught accurately the things concerning Jesus, although he knew only the baptism of John. 26 He began to speak boldly in the synagogue. But when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside, and explained to him the way of God more accurately.

27 When he had determined to pass over into Achaia, the brothers encouraged him; and wrote to the disciples to receive him. When he had come, he greatly helped those who had believed through grace; 28 for he powerfully refuted the Jews, publicly showing by the Scriptures that Jesus was the Christ.
