A lei e a graça. Analogia de casamento

1 Porventura, ignorais, *Rm 1.13irmãos pois falo aos que conhecem a lei, que ela tem domínio sobre o homem durante todo o tempo que ele vive? 2 *1Co 7.39A mulher casada está ligada pela lei a seu marido, enquanto ele vive; mas, se o marido morrer, desligada fica da lei do marido. 3 Assim, pois, enquanto o marido vive, se ela for de outro homem, será chamada adúltera; mas, se morrer o marido, livre está da lei, de maneira que não é adúltera, se for de outro homem. 4 De modo que, meus irmãos, também vós *Rm 7.6;Rm 6.2fostes mortos *Gl 2.19;5.18; cp.Rm 8.2à Lei, *Cl 1.22pelo corpo de Cristo, para pertencerdes a outro, àquele que foi ressuscitado dentre os mortos, a fim de que déssemos fruto a Deus. 5 Pois, quando estávamos *Rm 8.8s.; cp.2Co 10.3na carne, as paixões dos pecados que havia *Rm 7.7s.pela Lei operaram *Rm 6.13,21,23em nossos membros, a fim de darem fruto à morte; 6 mas, agora, *Rm 7.2desligados estamos da Lei, *Rm 6.2por termos morrido para aquilo em que estávamos presos, de sorte que sirvamos *Rm 6.4em novidade *Rm 2.29de espírito e não na velhice da letra.

A lei e o pecado

7 *Rm 3.5Que diremos, pois? É a Lei pecado? *Lc 20.16De modo nenhum! Mas *Rm 3.20;4.15;5.20eu não teria conhecido o pecado, senão pela Lei; pois eu não teria conhecido a cobiça, se a Lei não dissera: *Êx 20.17;Dt 5.21Não cobiçarás. 8 Mas o pecado, *Rm 7.11achando ocasião, operou em mim, *Rm 3.20;Rm 7.11pelo mandamento, toda a cobiça; porque, *1Co 15.56sem a Lei, o pecado está morto. 9 Em outro tempo, eu vivia sem a Lei, mas, quando veio o mandamento, reviveu o pecado, e eu morri. 10 O mandamento que era *Lv 18.5;Rm 10.5;Gl 3.12; cp.Lc 10.28para vida, esse achei que era para morte; 11 porque o pecado, *Rm 7.8achando ocasião, *cp.Gn 3.13me enganou pelo mandamento e por ele me matou. 12 *Rm 7.16;1Tm 1.8De modo que a Lei é santa, e o mandamento é santo, justo e bom. 13 Logo, o que é bom tornou-se morte para mim? *Lc 20.16De modo nenhum! Mas sim o pecado, para se mostrar pecado, operando em mim a morte por meio do que é bom, a fim de que, pelo mandamento, o pecado se fizesse excessivamente mau. 14 Sabemos que a Lei é *1Co 3.1espiritual; mas eu sou de carne, *cp.1Rs 21.20,25;2Rs 17.17; cp.Rm 6.6;Gl 4.3vendido *Rm 3.9para estar sujeito ao pecado. 15 Pois o que *cp.Jo 15.15faço não entendo: não pratico *Gl 5.17o que quero, mas faço o que aborreço. 16 Mas, se faço aquilo que não quero, admito que a Lei é boa. 17 Porém, agora, *Rm 7.20não sou eu mais o que faço isso, mas o pecado que em mim habita. 18 Eu sei que em mim, isto é, na minha *cp.Rm 7.25;Rm 7.19;Rm 8.3;Jo 3.6carne, não habita o bem; o querer o bem está comigo, mas o efetuá-lo não está. 19 Pois não faço *Rm 7.15o bem que quero; mas o mal que não quero, este pratico. 20 Mas, se eu faço aquilo que não quero, já não sou eu o que faço, mas sim o pecado que em mim habita. 21 Portanto, querendo eu fazer o bem, acho *cp.Rm 7.23,25;Rm 8.2a lei de que está comigo o mal. 22 Pois eu me deleito na Lei de Deus, no *2Co 4.16;Ef 3.16;1Pe 3.4homem interior; 23 mas vejo uma *cp.Gl 5.17;Tg 4.1;1Pe 2.11;Rm 6.19lei diferente nos meus membros, guerreando *Rm 7.25a lei do meu espírito e fazendo-me preso na lei do pecado, a qual está nos meus membros. 24 Infeliz homem eu! Quem me livrará do *cp.Rm 6.6;Cl 2.11corpo desta *Rm 8.2morte? 25 *1Co 15.57Graças a Deus por Jesus Cristo, nosso Senhor. Assim, pois, eu mesmo, com o espírito, sirvo à lei de Deus, mas com a carne sirvo à lei do pecado.

But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she is joined to another man. 4 Therefore, my brothers, you also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you would be joined to another, to him who was raised from the dead, that we might produce fruit to God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were through the law worked in our members to bring out fruit to death. 6 But now we have been discharged from the law, having died to that in which we were held; so that we serve in newness of the spirit, and not in oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? May it never be! However, I wouldn’t have known sin except through the law. For I wouldn’t have known coveting unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."✝7:7 Exodus 20:17; Deuteronomy 5:21 8 But sin, finding occasion through the commandment, produced in me all kinds of coveting. For apart from the law, sin is dead. 9 I was alive apart from the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died. 10 The commandment which was for life, this I found to be for death; 11 for sin, finding occasion through the commandment, deceived me, and through it killed me. 12 Therefore the law indeed is holy, and the commandment holy, righteous, and good.

13 Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful. 14 For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am fleshly, sold under sin. 15 For I don’t understand what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do. 16 But if what I don’t desire, that I do, I consent to the law that it is good. 17 So now it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, dwells no good thing. For desire is present with me, but I don’t find it doing that which is good. 19 For the good which I desire, I don’t do; but the evil which I don’t desire, that I practice. 20 But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me. 21 I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present. 22 For I delight in God’s law after the inward person, 23 but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members. 24 What a wretched man I am! Who will deliver me out of the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ, our Lord! So then with the mind, I myself serve God’s law, but with the flesh, sin’s law.
