A vida no Espírito. Os frutos da encarnação. A vida da carne e a vida do Espírito

1 Agora, pois, nada de *Rm 8.34; cp.Rm 5.16condenação há para os que estão *Rm 8.9s.em *Rm 8.2,11,39;Rm 16.3Cristo Jesus. 2 Pois *cp.1Co 15.45a lei do Espírito da vida *Rm 6.14,18;7.4; cp.Jo 8.32,36te livrou, em Cristo Jesus, da lei do pecado e da morte. 3 *Hb 10.1ss.;At 13.39O que a Lei não podia fazer, no que *Hb 7.18;Rm 7.18s.se achava fraca pela carne, Deus, enviando a seu próprio Filho em *Fp 2.7;Hb 2.14,17;4.15semelhança de carne de pecado e por causa do pecado, condenou o pecado na carne; 4 para que a *Lc 1.6;Rm 2.26exigência justa da Lei se cumprisse em nós, que *Gl 5.16,25não andamos segundo a carne, mas segundo o Espírito. 5 Os que são segundo a carne põem a sua mente *Gl 5.19-21nas coisas da carne, mas os que são segundo o Espírito põem a sua mente nas *Gl 5.22-25coisas do Espírito. 6 *Gl 6.8A mente da carne é *Rm 6.21;Rm 8.13morte, mas a mente do Espírito é vida e paz. 7 Pois a mente da carne é *Tg 4.4inimizade contra Deus, visto que não é sujeita à lei de Deus, nem o pode ser; 8 os que estão sujeitos *Rm 7.5à carne não podem agradar a Deus. 9 Vós, porém, não estais sujeitos à carne, mas ao Espírito, se realmente o Espírito de Deus *Rm 8.11;1Co 3.16;6.19;2Co 6.16;2Tm 1.14; cp.Jo 14.23habita em vós. Mas, *Jo 14.17;Gl 4.6;Fp 1.19;1Jo 4.13se alguém não tem o Espírito de Cristo, esse não é dele. 10 *Gl 2.20;Ef 3.17;Cl 1.27; cp.Jo 17.23Se Cristo está em vós, o corpo, na verdade, está morto por causa do pecado, mas o espírito é vida por causa da justiça. 11 Mas, se o Espírito daquele que *At 2.24;Rm 6.4ressuscitou a Jesus dentre os mortos habita em vós, *Jo 5.21aquele que ressuscitou a Cristo Jesus dentre os mortos também dará vida aos vossos corpos mortais, pelo seu Espírito, que habita em vós.

Filhos e herdeiros

12 Portanto, irmãos, somos devedores não à carne, para que vivamos segundo a carne. 13 *Rm 8.6Se viverdes segundo a carne, haveis de morrer; mas, se pelo Espírito *Cl 3.5mortificardes as obras do corpo, vivereis. 14 Pois todos os que são *Gl 5.18guiados pelo Espírito de Deus, estes são *Os 1.10;Rm 9.26;Mt 5.9;Jo 1.12;2Co 6.18;Gl 3.26;1Jo 3.1;Ap 21.7;Rm 8.16,19;Rm 9.8filhos de Deus. 15 *2Tm 1.7; cp.Hb 2.15Não recebestes o espírito de escravidão, para estardes outra vez com temor, *Gl 4.5s.; cp.Rm 8.23mas recebestes o espírito de adoção, pelo qual clamamos: *Mc 14.36;Gl 4.6Aba, Pai. 16 O Espírito mesmo *cp.At 5.32dá testemunho com o nosso espírito de que somos filhos de Deus. 17 E, se filhos, também *Gl 4.7; cp.At 20.32;Gl 3.29;Ef 3.6;Tt 3.7;Hb 1.14;Ap 21.7herdeiros; herdeiros de Deus e coerdeiros de Cristo, *2Co 1.5,7;Fp 3.10;2Tm 2.12;1Pe 4.13; cp.Cl 1.24se realmente padecemos com ele, para que também com ele sejamos glorificados.

Os sofrimentos do presente conduzem à glória do futuro

18 Tenho para mim que os sofrimentos da vida presente *2Co 4.17; cp.1Pe 4.13não têm valor em comparação com a *Cl 3.4;Tt 2.13;1Pe 5.1; cp.1.5glória que há de ser revelada em nós. 19 *Fp 1.20A ardente expectativa da criação aguarda *1Co 1.7s.;Cl 3.4;1Pe 1.7,13;1Jo 3.2; cp.Rm 8.18a manifestação dos *Rm 8.14filhos de Deus. 20 Pois a criação *Gn 3.17-19ficou sujeita *cp.Sl 39.5s.;Ec 1.2à vaidade, não voluntariamente, mas *Gn 3.17;5.29por causa daquele que a sujeitou, 21 na esperança de que também *cp.At 3.21;2Pe 3.13;Ap 21.1a própria criação será libertada do cativeiro da corrupção para a liberdade da glória dos filhos de Deus. 22 Ora, sabemos que toda a criação, juntamente, *cp.Jr 12.4,11geme e está com dores de parto até agora; 23 *Rm 5.3e não só ela, mas também nós, embora tenhamos as *2Co 1.22; cp.Rm 8.16primícias do Espírito, *2Co 5.2,4gememos ainda em nós mesmos, *Rm 8.19,25; cp.15;Gl 5.5aguardando a nossa adoção, isto é, *Rm 7.24a redenção do nosso corpo. 24 Pois, *cp.Rm 8.20;1Ts 5.8;Tt 3.7na esperança, fomos salvos; porém *2Co 5.7; cp.4.18;Hb 11.1a esperança que se vê não é esperança; porque o que alguém vê, como o espera? 25 Mas, *1Ts 1.3se esperamos o que não vemos, com perseverança o aguardamos.

O auxílio do Espírito

26 Do mesmo modo, também o Espírito ajuda a nossa fraqueza; porque *cp.Mt 20.22;2Co 12.8não sabemos o que havemos de pedir como convém, mas *cp.Jo 14.16;Ef 6.18;Rm 8.15s.o Espírito mesmo intercede por nós com gemidos inexprimíveis; 27 e *Sl 139.1s.;Lc 16.15;Ap 2.23;At 1.24aquele que esquadrinha os corações sabe qual é a *cp.Rm 8.6intenção do Espírito, que ele, segundo a vontade de Deus, *cp.Rm 8.34intercede pelos santos. 28 Sabemos que aos que amam a Deus, *Rm 8.32todas as coisas lhes cooperam para o bem, a saber, aos que são *Rm 8.30;Rm 9.24;1Co 1.9;Gl 1.6,15;5.8;Ef 1.11;3.11;2Ts 2.14;Hb 9.15;1Pe 2.9;3.9;Rm 11.29chamados segundo o seu propósito. 29 Porque os que *Rm 11.2;1Pe 1.2,20; cp.2Tm 1.9;1Co 8.3dantes conheceu também *1Co 2.7;Ef 1.5,11; cp.Rm 9.23predestinou para *1Co 15.49;Fp 3.21;Cl 3.10;1Jo 3.2serem conformes à imagem de seu Filho, a fim de que ele fosse *Cl 1.18;Hb 1.6o primogênito entre muitos irmãos; 30 e aos que predestinou, a estes também chamou; e aos que chamou, a estes também *1Co 6.11justificou; e aos que justificou, a estes também *Jo 17.22;1Co 2.7;Rm 8.21;Rm 9.23glorificou.

As provas e a certeza do amor de Deus

31 *cp.Rm 3.5;4.1Que diremos, pois, à vista dessas coisas? *Sl 118.6; cp.Mt 1.23Se Deus é por nós, quem será contra nós? 32 Aquele que *Jo 3.16;Rm 5.8não poupou a seu próprio Filho, mas por todos nós *Rm 4.25o entregou, como não nos dará também com ele todas as coisas? 33 Quem formará acusação contra *Lc 18.7os escolhidos de Deus? *Is 50.8s.É Deus quem os justifica. 34 Quem é o que os *Rm 8.1condena? Cristo Jesus é o que *Rm 5.6s.morreu ou, antes, o que foi *At 2.24ressuscitado, o que está *Mc 16.19à mão direita de Deus, o que também *Hb 7.25;Rm 8.27; cp.Hb 9.24;1Jo 2.1intercede por nós! 35 Quem nos separará do *cp.Rm 8.37s.amor de Cristo? Será *Rm 2.9; cp.2Co 4.8tribulação, ou angústia, ou *1Co 4.11;2Co 11.26s.perseguição, ou fome, ou nudez, ou perigo, ou espada? 36 Como está escrito:

*Sl 44.22;1Co 4.9;15.30s.;2Co 1.9;4.10s.;6.9;11.23; cp.At 20.24Por amor de ti, somos entregues à morte o dia todo,

fomos considerados como ovelhas para o matadouro.

37 Mas, em todas essas coisas, somos mais que *cp.1Co 15.57;Jo 16.33vencedores por *Gl 2.20;Ef 5.2;Ap 1.5aquele que nos amou. 38 Pois estou persuadido de que nem *1Co 3.22a morte, nem a vida, nem os *cp.1Co 15.24;Ef 1.21;1Pe 3.22anjos, nem os principados, nem as *1Co 3.22coisas presentes 39 nem as futuras, nem os poderes, nem a altura, nem a profundidade, nem qualquer outra criatura nos poderá separar *Rm 5.8do amor de Deus, que é *Rm 8.1em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.

1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.*8:1 NU omits "who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit" 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death. 3 For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace; 7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God, for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be. 8 Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his. 10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh. 13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. 15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, "Abba!*8:15 Abba is an Aramaic word for "Father" or "Daddy", which can be used affectionately and respectfully in prayer to our Father in heaven. Father!"

16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God; 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us. 19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now. 23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees? 25 But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

26 In the same way, the Spirit also helps our weaknesses, for we don’t know how to pray as we ought. But the Spirit himself makes intercession for us with groanings which can’t be uttered. 27 He who searches the hearts knows what is on the Spirit’s mind, because he makes intercession for the saints according to God.

28 We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. 29 For whom he foreknew, he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.*8:29 The word for "brothers" here and where context allows may also be correctly translated "brothers and sisters" or "siblings." 30 Whom he predestined, those he also called. Whom he called, those he also justified. Whom he justified, those he also glorified.

31 What then shall we say about these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who didn’t spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how would he not also with him freely give us all things? 33 Who could bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, yes rather, who was raised from the dead, who is at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 Even as it is written,

"For your sake we are killed all day long.

We were accounted as sheep for the slaughter."✝8:36 Psalms 44:22

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
