1 Após esses discursos, Jesus deixou a Galiléia e veio para a Judéia, além do Jordão.2 Uma grande multidão o seguiu e ele curou seus doentes.3 Os fariseus vieram perguntar-lhe para pô-lo à prova: É permitido a um homem rejeitar sua mulher por um motivo qualquer?4 Respondeu-lhes Jesus: Não lestes que o Criador, no começo, fez o homem e a mulher e disse:5 Por isso, o homem deixará seu pai e sua mãe e se unirá à sua mulher; e os dois formarão uma só carne?6 Assim, já não são dois, mas uma só carne. Portanto, não separe o homem o que Deus uniu.7 Disseram-lhe eles: Por que, então, Moisés ordenou dar um documento de divórcio à mulher, ao rejeitá-la?8 Jesus respondeu-lhes: É por causa da dureza de vosso coração que Moisés havia tolerado o repúdio das mulheres; mas no começo não foi assim.9 Ora, eu vos declaro que todo aquele que rejeita sua mulher, exceto no caso de matrimônio falso, e desposa uma outra, comete adultério. E aquele que desposa uma mulher rejeitada, comete também adultério.10 Seus discípulos disseram-lhe: Se tal é a condição do homem a respeito da mulher, é melhor não se casar!11 Respondeu ele: Nem todos são capazes de compreender o sentido desta palavra, mas somente aqueles a quem foi dado.12 Porque há eunucos que o são desde o ventre de suas mães, há eunucos tornados tais pelas mãos dos homens e há eunucos que a si mesmos se fizeram eunucos por amor do Reino dos céus. Quem puder compreender, compreenda.13 Foram-lhe, então, apresentadas algumas criancinhas para que pusesse as mãos sobre elas e orasse por elas. Os discípulos, porém, as afastavam.14 Disse-lhes Jesus: Deixai vir a mim estas criancinhas e não as impeçais, porque o Reino dos céus é para aqueles que se lhes assemelham.15 E, depois de impor-lhes as mãos, continuou seu caminho.16 Um jovem aproximou-se de Jesus e lhe perguntou: Mestre, que devo fazer de bom para ter a vida eterna? Disse-lhe Jesus:17 Por que me perguntas a respeito do que se deve fazer de bom? Só Deus é bom. Se queres entrar na vida, observa os mandamentos.18 Quais?, perguntou ele. Jesus respondeu: Não matarás, não cometerás adultério, não furtarás, não dirás falso testemunho,19 honra teu pai e tua mãe, amarás teu próximo como a ti mesmo.20 Disse-lhe o jovem: Tenho observado tudo isto desde a minha infância. Que me falta ainda?21 Respondeu Jesus: Se queres ser perfeito, vai, vende teus bens, dá-os aos pobres e terás um tesouro no céu. Depois, vem e segue-me!22 Ouvindo estas palavras, o jovem foi embora muito triste, porque possuía muitos bens.23 Jesus disse então aos seus discípulos: Em verdade vos declaro: é difícil para um rico entrar no Reino dos céus!24 Eu vos repito: é mais fácil um camelo passar pelo fundo de uma agulha do que um rico entrar no Reino de Deus.25 A estas palavras seus discípulos, pasmados, perguntaram: Quem poderá então salvar-se?26 Jesus olhou para eles e disse: Aos homens isto é impossível, mas a Deus tudo é possível.27 Pedro então, tomando a palavra, disse-lhe: Eis que deixamos tudo para te seguir. Que haverá então para nós?28 Respondeu Jesus: Em verdade vos declaro: no dia da renovação do mundo, quando o Filho do Homem estiver sentado no trono da glória, vós, que me haveis seguido, estareis sentados em doze tronos para julgar as doze tribos de Israel.29 E todo aquele que por minha causa deixar irmãos, irmãs, pai, mãe, mulher, filhos, terras ou casa receberá o cêntuplo e possuirá a vida eterna.30 Muitos dos primeiros serão os últimos e muitos dos últimos serão os primeiros.

1 And it came to pass [that] when Jesus had finished these words, he departed from Galilee and came into the borders of Judaea beyond the Jordan;2 and a great multitude followed him, and he healed them there.3 Then the Pharisees came unto him, tempting him and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for any cause?4 And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he who made [them] at the beginning made them male and female?5 And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother and shall be joined to his wife, and they shall be two in one flesh.6 Therefore they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.7 They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a bill of divorce and to put her away?8 He said unto them, Moses, because of the hardness of your hearts, suffered you to put away your wives, but from the beginning it was not so.9 And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except [it be] for fornication and shall marry another, commits adultery, and whosoever marries her that is put away commits adultery.10 His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with [his] wife, it is not expedient to marry.11 But he said unto them, Everyone cannot receive this word, except [those] unto whom it is given.12 For there are some eunuchs who were so born from [their] mother's womb; and there are some eunuchs who were made eunuchs of men; and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs because of the kingdom of the heavens. He that is able to receive [it], let him receive [it].13 Then were there brought unto him little children that he should put [his] hands on them and pray, and the disciples rebuked them.14 But Jesus said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of the heavens.15 And he laid [his] hands on them and departed from there.16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?17 And he said unto him, Why dost thou call me good? [There is] none good but one, [that is], God, but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.18 He said unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt not murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,19 Honour thy father and [thy] mother, and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.20 The young man said unto him, All these things I have kept from my youth up; what do I lack?21 Jesus said unto him, If thou desire to be perfect, go [and] sell what thou hast and give it to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven; and come [and] follow me.22 But when the young man heard that word, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.23 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is difficult that a rich man shall enter into the kingdom of the heavens.24 And again I say unto you, It is easier to put a cable through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.25 But his disciples hearing these things were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?26 But Jesus beheld [them] and said unto them, With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.27 Then Peter answered and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye who have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.29 And every one that has forsaken houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for my name's sake shall receive a hundredfold and shall inherit eternal life.30 But many [that are] first shall be last, and [many of the] last [shall be] first.:
