1 Com efeito, o Reino dos céus é semelhante a um pai de família que saiu ao romper da manhã, a fim de contratar operários para sua vinha.2 Ajustou com eles um denário por dia e enviou-os para sua vinha.3 Cerca da terceira hora, saiu ainda e viu alguns que estavam na praça sem fazer nada.4 Disse-lhes ele: - Ide também vós para minha vinha e vos darei o justo salário.5 Eles foram. À sexta hora saiu de novo e igualmente pela nona hora, e fez o mesmo.6 Finalmente, pela undécima hora, encontrou ainda outros na praça e perguntou-lhes: - Por que estais todo o dia sem fazer nada?7 Eles responderam: - É porque ninguém nos contratou. Disse-lhes ele, então: - Ide vós também para minha vinha.8 Ao cair da tarde, o senhor da vinha disse a seu feitor: - Chama os operários e paga-lhes, começando pelos últimos até os primeiros.9 Vieram aqueles da undécima hora e receberam cada qual um denário.10 Chegando por sua vez os primeiros, julgavam que haviam de receber mais. Mas só receberam cada qual um denário.11 Ao receberem, murmuravam contra o pai de família, dizendo:12 - Os últimos só trabalharam uma hora... e deste-lhes tanto como a nós, que suportamos o peso do dia e do calor.13 O senhor, porém, observou a um deles: - Meu amigo, não te faço injustiça. Não contrataste comigo um denário?14 Toma o que é teu e vai-te. Eu quero dar a este último tanto quanto a ti.15 Ou não me é permitido fazer dos meus bens o que me apraz? Porventura vês com maus olhos que eu seja bom?16 Assim, pois, os últimos serão os primeiros e os primeiros serão os últimos. { Muitos serão os chamados, mas poucos os escolhidos.}17 Subindo para Jerusalém, durante o caminho, Jesus tomou à parte os Doze e disse-lhes:18 Eis que subimos a Jerusalém, e o Filho do Homem será entregue aos príncipes dos sacerdotes e aos escribas. Eles o condenarão à morte.19 E o entregarão aos pagãos para ser exposto às suas zombarias, açoitado e crucificado; mas ao terceiro dia ressuscitará.20 Nisso aproximou-se a mãe dos filhos de Zebedeu com seus filhos e prostrou-se diante de Jesus para lhe fazer uma súplica.21 Perguntou-lhe ele: Que queres? Ela respondeu: Ordena que estes meus dois filhos se sentem no teu Reino, um à tua direita e outro à tua esquerda.22 Jesus disse: Não sabeis o que pedis. Podeis vós beber o cálice que eu devo beber? Sim, disseram-lhe.23 De fato, bebereis meu cálice. Quanto, porém, ao sentar-vos à minha direita ou à minha esquerda, isto não depende de mim vo-lo conceder. Esses lugares cabem àqueles aos quais meu Pai os reservou.24 Os dez outros, que haviam ouvido tudo, indignaram-se contra os dois irmãos.25 Jesus, porém, os chamou e lhes disse: Sabeis que os chefes das nações as subjugam, e que os grandes as governam com autoridade.26 Não seja assim entre vós. Todo aquele que quiser tornar-se grande entre vós, se faça vosso servo.27 E o que quiser tornar-se entre vós o primeiro, se faça vosso escravo.28 Assim como o Filho do Homem veio, não para ser servido, mas para servir e dar sua vida em resgate por uma multidão.29 Ao sair de Jericó, uma grande multidão o seguiu.30 Dois cegos, sentados à beira do caminho, ouvindo dizer que Jesus passava, começaram a gritar: Senhor, filho de Davi, tem piedade de nós!31 A multidão, porém, os repreendia para que se calassem. Mas eles gritavam ainda mais forte: Senhor, filho de Davi, tem piedade de nós!32 Jesus parou, chamou-os e perguntou-lhes: Que quereis que eu vos faça?33 Senhor, que nossos olhos se abram!34 Jesus, cheio de compaixão, tocou-lhes os olhos. Instantaneamente recobraram a vista e puseram-se a segui-lo.

1 For the kingdom of the heavens is like unto a man, the husband of a house, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard.2 And when he had agreed with the labourers for a denarius a day, he sent them into his vineyard.3 And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace4 and said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is right I will give you. And they went.5 Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour and did likewise.6 And about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing idle and said unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?7 They say unto him, Because no one has hired us. He said unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard, and whatever is right, [that] shall ye receive.8 So when evening was come, the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the labourers and give them [their] hire, beginning from the last unto the first.9 And when those came that [were hired] about the eleventh hour, they received every man a denarius.10 But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more but they likewise received each one a denarius.11 And when they had received [it], they murmured against the husband of the house,12 saying, These last have worked [but] one hour, and thou hast made them equal unto us who have borne the burden and heat of the day.13 But he answered one of them and said, Friend, I do thee no wrong; didst not thou agree with me for a denarius?14 Take that which is thine and go, for I desire to give unto this last one, even as unto thee.15 Is it not lawful for me to do what I will with mine own? Is thine eye evil because I am good?16 So the first shall be last, and the last first; for many are called, but few [are] chosen.17 And Jesus going up to Jerusalem took the twelve disciples apart in the way and said unto them,18 Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the princes of the priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death19 and shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify; and the third day he shall rise again.20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to him with her sons, worshipping [him] and desiring a certain thing of him.21 And he said unto her, What dost thou desire? She said unto him, Grant that these my two sons may sit the one on thy right hand and the other on the left in thy kingdom.22 But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They say unto him, We are able.23 And he said unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with; but to sit on my right hand and on my left is not mine to give, but [it shall be given to those] for whom it is prepared of my Father.24 And when the ten heard [it], they were moved with indignation against the two brothers.25 But Jesus called them [unto him] and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and those that are great wield power over them.26 But it shall not be so among you, but whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister;27 and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant,28 even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister and to give his life a ransom for many.29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.30 And, behold, two blind men sitting by the way side, when they heard that Jesus passed by, cried out, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.31 And the multitude rebuked them, that they should be silent; but they cried the more, saying, Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us.32 And Jesus stood still and called them and said, What desire ye that I shall do unto you?33 They say unto him, Lord, that our eyes may be opened.34 Then Jesus, having mercy [on them], touched their eyes; and immediately their eyes received sight, and they followed him.:
