1 Então que diremos? Permaneceremos no pecado, para que haja abundância da graça?2 De modo algum. Nós, que já morremos ao pecado, como poderíamos ainda viver nele?3 Ou ignorais que todos os que fomos batizados em Jesus Cristo, fomos batizados na sua morte?4 Fomos, pois, sepultados com ele na sua morte pelo batismo para que, como Cristo ressurgiu dos mortos pela glória do Pai, assim nós também vivamos uma vida nova.5 Se fomos feitos o mesmo ser com ele por uma morte semelhante à sua, sê-lo-emos igualmente por uma comum ressurreição.6 Sabemos que o nosso velho homem foi crucificado com ele, para que seja reduzido à impotência o corpo {outrora} subjugado ao pecado, e já não sejamos escravos do pecado.7 {Pois quem morreu, libertado está do pecado.}8 Ora, se morremos com Cristo, cremos que viveremos também com ele,9 pois sabemos que Cristo, tendo ressurgido dos mortos, já não morre, nem a morte terá mais domínio sobre ele.10 Morto, ele o foi uma vez por todas pelo pecado; porém, está vivo, continua vivo para Deus!11 Portanto, vós também considerai-vos mortos ao pecado, porém vivos para Deus, em Cristo Jesus.12 Não reine, pois, o pecado em vosso corpo mortal, de modo que obedeçais aos seus apetites.13 Nem ofereçais os vossos membros ao pecado, como instrumentos do mal. Oferecei-vos a Deus, como vivos, salvos da morte, para que os vossos membros sejam instrumentos do bem ao seu serviço.14 O pecado já não vos dominará, porque agora não estais mais sob a lei, e sim sob a graça.15 Então? Havemos de pecar, pelo fato de não estarmos sob a lei, mas sob a graça? De modo algum.16 Não sabeis que, quando vos ofereceis a alguém para lhe obedecer, sois escravos daquele a quem obedeceis, quer seja do pecado para a morte, quer da obediência para a justiça?17 Graças a Deus, porém, que, depois de terdes sido escravos do pecado, obedecestes de coração à regra da doutrina na qual tendes sido instruídos.18 E, libertados do pecado, vos tornastes servos da justiça.19 Vou-me servir de linguagem corrente entre os homens, por causa da fraqueza da vossa carne. Pois, como pusestes os vossos membros a serviço da impureza e do mal para cometer a iniqüidade, assim ponde agora os vossos membros a serviço da justiça para chegar à santidade.20 Quando éreis escravos do pecado, éreis livres a respeito da justiça.21 Que frutos produzíeis então? Frutos dos quais agora vos envergonhais. O fim deles é a morte.22 Mas agora, libertados do pecado e feitos servos de Deus, tendes por fruto a santidade; e o termo é a vida eterna.23 Porque o salário do pecado é a morte, enquanto o dom de Deus é a vida eterna em Cristo Jesus, nosso Senhor.

1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?2 No, in no wise. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?3 Know ye not that all of us that are baptized into Jesus the Christ are baptized into his death?4 For we are buried with him by baptism into death, that just as the Christ was raised up from the dead to the glory of the Father, likewise we also walk in newness of life.5 For if we have been planted together [in him] in the likeness of his death, we shall be also [in the likeness] of [his] resurrection,6 knowing this: that our old man is crucified with [him] that the body of sin might be destroyed that we should not serve sin any longer.7 For he that is dead is justified from sin.8 Now if we die with the Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,9 knowing that the Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over him.10 For [he] that is dead died unto sin once, and [he] that lives, lives unto God.11 Likewise also reckon yourselves to be truly dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.13 Neither present your members [as] instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but present yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members [as] instruments of righteousness unto God.14 So that sin shall have no dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace.15 What then? shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? No, in no wise.16 Or know ye not that to whom ye present yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or of the obedience unto righteousness?17 Thank God that, although ye were the servants of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;18 and freed from sin, ye are become the servants of righteousness.19 I speak a human thing because of the weakness of our flesh: that as ye presented your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, likewise now present your members to serve righteousness unto holiness.20 For being [previously] the servants of sin, [now] ye have been made the servants of righteousness.21 What fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things [is] death.22 But now freed from sin and made servants to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life.23 For the wages of sin [is] death, but the grace of God [is] eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.:
