1 No início do reinado de Sedecias, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, foi dirigida a palavra do Senhor a Jeremias nestes termos:2 Eis o que me disse o Senhor: prepara laços e barras de jugo e coloca-os ao pescoço.3 Em seguida, tu os enviarás ao rei de Edom, ao rei de Moab, ao rei dos filhos de Amon, ao rei de Tiro e ao rei de Sidônia, por intermédio dos embaixadores que vieram a Jerusalém apresentar-se a Sedecias, rei de Judá.4 E encarregá-los-ás de levar a seus senhores esta mensagem: eis o que disse o Senhor, Deus de Israel: dizei a vossos senhores:5 eu sou aquele que, por soberana ação da força do meu braço, criei a terra, e os homens e animais que nela se encontram, e a dou a quem melhor me aprouver;6 todos estes países agora eu os entreguei ao meu servo Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, a quem confiei mesmo os animais dos campos para lhe serem sujeitos.7 Todas estas nações ficar-lhe-ão submissas, assim como a seu filho e neto, até que chegue também a vez de sua terra, a qual será dominada por numerosas nações e grandes reis.8 A nação ou o reino que se recusar a servir Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e a inclinar-se ante o seu jugo, eu castigarei - oráculo do Senhor - pela espada, pela fome ou pela peste até que se aniquile em suas mãos.9 Não escuteis, portanto, vossos profetas e adivinhos, nem vossos vaticinadores, astrólogos e feiticeiros que vos disseram que não sereis sujeitos ao rei de Babilônia.10 Porque são mentiras que vos profetizam a fim de que sejais banidos de vossa terra, dispersados por mim e levados a perecer.11 Ao contrário, o povo que se inclinar ante o jugo do rei de Babilônia e a ele submeter-se, deixá-lo-ei tranqüilo em sua terra - oráculo do Senhor -, a fim de cultivá-la e nela morar.12 Dirigi-me, em seguida, a Sedecias com quem mantive a mesma linguagem: curvai vossas cabeças sob o jugo do rei de Babilônia. Servi-o a ele e a seu povo, e tereis a vida.13 Por que expor-te, tu e teu povo, à morte pela espada, pela fome e pela peste, como o Senhor anunciou a todo povo que recusar servidão ao rei de Babilônia?14 não escuteis, portanto, a voz dos profetas que dizem que não sereis submetidos ao rei de Babilônia, pois são mentiras o que vos anunciam.15 Não fui eu quem os enviou - oráculo do Senhor - e eles mentem proferindo oráculos em meu nome. Assim eu vos repelirei, e vós e vossos profetas perecereis.16 Dirigi-me, em seguida, aos sacerdotes e ao povo: Eis o que diz o Senhor: Não escuteis a voz dos profetas ao dizer-vos que os objetos do templo em breve voltarão de Babilônia. É falsidade o que proferem.17 Não os escuteis. Submetei-vos ao rei de Babilônia, a fim de que possais viver. Por que seria esta cidade transformada em deserto?18 Se na verdade são profetas inspirados pelo Senhor, que intercedam junto ao Senhor dos exércitos, a fim de que os objetos que ficaram no templo, no palácio do rei de Judá e em Jerusalém não sejam levados para Babilônia!19 Porquanto, eis o que disse o Senhor dos exércitos a respeito das colunas, do mar, dos pedestais e dos demais objetos que ficaram na cidade,20 e que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, não retirou, ao deportar de Jerusalém para Babilônia Jeconias, filho de Joaquim, rei de Judá, juntamente com todos os notáveis de Judá e Jerusalém...21 Eis o que disse o Senhor dos exércitos, Deus de Israel, com referência aos objetos que ficaram no templo, no palácio do rei e em Jerusalém:22 serão eles carregados para Babilônia - oráculo do Senhor - e lá permanecerão até o dia em que eu for buscá-los e os trouxer para recolocá-los neste lugar.
1 In the beginning of the reign of Jehoyakim the son of Josiah the king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the Lord, saying,2 Thus said the Lord to me, Make for thyself bands and yokebars, and put them around thy neck,3 And send such to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the children of Ammon, and to the king of Tyre, and to the king of Zidon, by means of the messengers who come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah the king of Judah;4 And thou shalt charge them unto their masters, saying, Thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say unto your masters,5 It is I who have made the earth, the men, and the beasts that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and I have given it unto the one who seemeth proper in my eyes.6 And now it is I who have given all these countries into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and also the beasts of the field have I given him to serve him.7 And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his sons son, until the time of his land is also come in its turn: when many nations and great kings shall make it serve.8 And it shall come to pass, that the nation and the kingdom which will not serve him, Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put its neck in the yoke of the king of Babylon,even that nation will I punish with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, saith the Lord, until I have made an end of them by his hand.9 But do ye not hearken to your prophets, and to your diviners, and to your dreamers, and to your enchanters, and to your sorcerers, who speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon;10 For falsehood do they prophesy unto you, in order to remove you far from your land; and that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish.11 But the nation that will bring its neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him,that one will I then let remain quietly in its own land, saith the Lord: and it shall till it, and dwell therein.12 And unto Zedekiah the king of Judah did I speak in accordance with all these words, saying, Bring your neck into the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, that ye may live.13 Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by pestilence, as the Lord hath spoken concerning the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?14 And do ye not hearken unto the words of the prophets that say unto you, as followeth, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for a falsehood do they prophesy unto you.15 For I have not sent them, saith the Lord, yet they prophesy in my name falsely: in order that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.16 And unto the priests and unto all this people did I speak, saying, Thus hath said the Lord, Do not hearken to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the house of the Lord shall be brought again from Babylon now speedily; for a falsehood do they prophesy unto you.17 Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, that ye may live: wherefore should this city become a ruin?18 And if they be prophets, and if the word of the Lord be with them, let them now make intercession with the Lord of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, may not be carried to Babylon.19 For thus hath said the Lord of hosts of the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that are left in this city,20 Which Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon did not take away, when he carried away into exile Jechonyah the son of Jehoyakim the king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, with all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;21 Yea for thus hath said the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that are left in the house of the Lord, and in the house of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem,22 Unto Babylon shall they be carried, and there shall they remain until the day that I think of them, saith the Lord, when I will bring them up, and restore them to this place.
