1 +2 \49:1\To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all ye people; give ear, all ye inhabitants of the world:3 \49:2\Both low and high, rich and poor together.4 \49:3\My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall be of understanding.5 \49:4\I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.6 \49:5\Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me?7 \49:6\They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;8 \49:7\None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:9 \49:8\(For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:)10 \49:9\That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption.11 \49:10\For he seeth that wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.12 \49:11\Their inward thought is, that their houses shall continue for ever, and their dwelling places to all generations; they call their lands after their own names.13 \49:12\Nevertheless man being in honor abideth not: he is like the beasts that perish.14 \49:13\This their way is their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. Selah.15 \49:14\Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling.16 \49:15\But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.17 \49:16\Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;18 \49:17\For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.19 \49:18\Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and men will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.20 \49:19\He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.21 \49:20\Man that is in honor, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish.

1 Ouçam isto vocês, todos os povos; escutem, todos os que vivem neste mundo,2 gente do povo, homens importantes, ricos e pobres igualmente:3 A minha boca falará com sabedoria; a meditação do meu coração trará entendimento.4 Inclinarei os meus ouvidos a um provérbio; com a harpa exporei o meu enigma:5 Por que deverei temer quando vierem dias maus, quando inimigos traiçoeiros me cercarem,6 aqueles que confiam em seus bens e se gabam de suas muitas riquezas?7 Homem algum pode redimir seu irmão ou pagar a Deus o preço de sua vida,8 pois o resgate de uma vida não tem preço. Não há pagamento que o livre9 para que viva para sempre e não sofra decomposição.10 Pois todos podem ver que os sábios morrem, como perecem o tolo e o insensato e para outros deixam os seus bens.11 Seus túmulos serão suas moradas para sempre, suas habitações de geração em geração, ainda que tenham dado seus nomes a terras.12 O homem, mesmo que muito importante, não vive para sempre; é como os animais, que perecem.13 Este é o destino dos que confiam em si mesmos, e dos seus seguidores, que aprovam o que eles dizem. Pausa14 Como ovelhas, estão destinados à sepultura, e a morte lhes servirá de pastor. Pela manhã os justos triunfarão sobre eles! A aparência deles se desfará na sepultura, longe das suas gloriosas mansões.15 Mas Deus redimirá a minha vida da sepultura e me levará para si. Pausa16 Não se aborreça quando alguém se enriquece e aumenta o luxo de sua casa;17 pois nada levará consigo quando morrer; não descerá com ele o seu esplendor.18 Embora em vida ele se parabenize: "Todos o elogiam, pois você está prosperando",19 ele se juntará aos seus antepassados, que nunca mais verão a luz.20 O homem, mesmo que muito importante, não tem entendimento; é como os animais, que perecem.
