1 How the gold has become dim!
The most pure gold has changed!
The stones of the sanctuary are poured out
at the head of every street.
2 The precious sons of Zion,
comparable to fine gold,
how they are esteemed as earthen pitchers,
the work of the hands of the potter!
3 Even the jackals offer their breast.
They nurse their young ones.
But the daughter of my people has become cruel,
like the ostriches in the wilderness.
4 The tongue of the nursing child clings to the roof of his mouth for thirst.
The young children ask for bread,
and no one breaks it for them.
5 Those who ate delicacies are desolate in the streets.
Those who were brought up in purple embrace dunghills.
6 For the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the sin of Sodom,
which was overthrown as in a moment.
No hands were laid on her.
7 Her nobles were purer than snow.
They were whiter than milk.
They were more ruddy in body than rubies.
Their polishing was like sapphire.
8 Their appearance is blacker than a coal.
They are not known in the streets.
Their skin clings to their bones.
It is withered.
It has become like wood.
9 Those who are killed with the sword are better than those who are killed with hunger;
for these pine away, stricken through,
for lack of the fruits of the field.
10 The hands of the pitiful women have boiled their own children.
They were their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.
11 Yahweh has accomplished his wrath.
He has poured out his fierce anger.
He has kindled a fire in Zion,
which has devoured its foundations.
12 The kings of the earth didn’t believe,
neither did all the inhabitants of the world,
that the adversary and the enemy would enter into the gates of Jerusalem.
13 It is because of the sins of her prophets
and the iniquities of her priests,
that have shed the blood of the just in the middle of her.
14 They wander as blind men in the streets.
They are polluted with blood,
So that men can’t touch their garments.
15 "Go away!" they cried to them.
"Unclean! Go away! Go away! Don’t touch!
When they fled away and wandered, men said among the nations,
"They can’t live here any more."
16 Yahweh’s anger has scattered them.
He will not pay attention to them any more.
They didn’t respect the persons of the priests.
They didn’t favor the elders.
17 Our eyes still fail,
looking in vain for our help.
In our watching we have watched for a nation that could not save.
18 They hunt our steps,
so that we can’t go in our streets.
Our end is near.
Our days are fulfilled,
for our end has come.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than the eagles of the sky.
They chased us on the mountains.
They set an ambush for us in the wilderness.
20 The breath of our nostrils,
the anointed of Yahweh,
was taken in their pits;
of whom we said,
under his shadow we will live among the nations.
21 Rejoice and be glad, daughter of Edom,
who dwells in the land of Uz.
The cup will pass through to you also.
You will be drunken,
and will make yourself naked.
22 The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, daughter of Zion.
He will no more carry you away into captivity.
He will visit your iniquity, daughter of Edom.
He will uncover your sins.

Te Whakapaeanga o Hiruhārama
1 Taukiri e!
2 Ko ngā tamariki a Hiona ko ngā mea papai,
Kua kīia rātou he hāka oneone,
he mea hanga nā ngā ringa o te kaipokepoke.
3 Ko ngā kīrehe mohoao nei hoki, e tukua iho ana te ū e rātou,
e whakangotea ana e rātou ā rātou kūao;
ngote ū ki te ngao o tōna māngai i te hiainu;
e tono ana ngā kōhungahunga i te taro mā rātou,
heoi kāhore he tangata hei whatiwhati atu mā rātou.
5 Ko te hunga i kai i ngā mea papai
kei te noho mokemoke i ngā ara.
Ko te hunga i whakatupuria i roto i ngā kākahu ngangana,
kei te awhi i ngā pūranga paru.
6 Nō te mea ko te hē o te tamāhine a tōku iwi
nui atu i te hara o Horoma,
i hurihia ohoreretia rā i mua,
kāhore hoki he ringa i ū ki a ia.
7 Ko ōna rangatira pai atu i te hukarere te pokekore,
mā atu hoki rātou i te waiū,
pūwhero ake ō rātou tinana i ngā rupi,
8 Mangu iho tō rātou mata i tētahi ngārahu;
kāhore rātou e mōhiotia i ngā ara.
Piri tonu ō rātou kiri ki ō rātou wheua;
kua memenge, kua rite ki te rākau.
9 Ko te hunga i patua e te hoari,
pai ake tō rātou i tō te hunga i patua e te hemokai;
nō te mea ka honia noatia ēnei, ka werohia,
he kore hoki nō ngā hua o te māra.
10 Ko ngā wāhine, ko te hunga aroha,
kei te kōhua i ā rātou tamariki ki ō rātou ringa;
he kai ērā mā rātou
i te wawāhanga o te tamāhine a tōku iwi.
11 Kua whakapaua e Ihowā tōna riri nui,
kua ringihia mai e ia tōna riri nui;
kua tahuna hoki e ia he ahi ki Hiona,
nā reira i pau ai ōna tūranga.
12 Kīhai i whakapono mai ngā kīngi o te whenua,
kīhai anō hoki ngā tāngata o te ao,
tērā te hoariri rāua ko te hoa whawhai e tomo mai
ki ngā kūwaha o Hiruhārama.
13 I pērā ai he hara nō ōna poropiti,
he hē nō ōna tohunga kua whakaheke nei
i ngā toto o te hunga tika
ki waenganui ōna.
14 E kōpikopiko ana rātou
ānō he matapō i ngā ara;
I tō rātou whatinga, i a rātou e ātiutiu noa atu ana,
i kī ngā tāngata i roto i ngā tauiwi,
"Kāhore he nohoanga iho mō rātou ki konei."
16 Kua wehewehea rātou e te riri o Ihowā;
e kore ia e titiro ki a rātou i muri nei.
Kīhai rātou i whakaaro ki ngā kanohi o ngā tohunga,
kīhai i manako ki ngā kaumātua.
17 E matawaia tonu ana ō tātou kanohi
i a tātou e titiro ana ki te āwhina tekateka noa mō tātou;
i a tātou e tiaki atu ana,
tē haere ai tātou i ō tātou waharoa.
Kua tata tō tātou whakamutunga, kua rite ō tātou rā;
nō te mea kua tae mai tō tātou whakamutunga.
19 Nui atu te tere o ō tātou kaiwhai
i tō ngā ēkara o te rangi;
i arumia tātou e rātou i runga i ngā maunga;
i mau ki roto ki ā rātou rua;
i kī rā tātou mōna, "Mā tōna taumarumarunga iho
ka ora ai tātou i roto i ngā tauiwi."
21 Kia hari, kia koa, e te tamāhine a Ēroma
e noho nā i te whenua o Uhu;
ka tae atu anō te kapu ki a koe;
ka haurangi koe, ka whakarere anō koe i ōu kākahu.
22 Kua rite te whiu mō tōu hē, e te tamāhine a Hiona;
heoi anō tāna whakaraunga i a koe.
Ka whiua e ia tōu hē, e te tamāhine a Ēroma,
ka hurahia anō e ia ōu hara.
