1 Tessalonicenses 4

1 Finally then, brothers, we beg and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us how you ought to walk and to please God, that you abound more and more. 2 For you know what instructions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. 3 For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, 4 that each one of you know how to control his own body*4:4 literally, possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor, 5 not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God, 6 that no one should take advantage of and wrong a brother or sister in this matter; because the Lord is an avenger in all these things, as also we forewarned you and testified. 7 For God called us not for uncleanness, but in sanctification. 8 Therefore he who rejects this doesn’t reject man, but God, who has also given his Holy Spirit to you.

9 But concerning brotherly love, you have no need that one write to you. For you yourselves are taught by God to love one another, 10 for indeed you do it toward all the brothers who are in all Macedonia. But we exhort you, brothers, that you abound more and more; 11 and that you make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, even as we instructed you, 12 that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and may have need of nothing.

13 But we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, concerning those who have fallen asleep, so that you don’t grieve like the rest, who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. 15 For this we tell you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will in no way precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God’s trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, 17 then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. So we will be with the Lord forever. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.

Ett liv i helgelse

1 *Fil 4:9, 1 Tess 2:4, 12. För övrigt, bröder, har ni lärt er av oss hur ni ska leva för att behaga Gud, och det är ju så ni lever. Nu ber vi er och uppmanar er i Herren Jesus att göra det ännu mer.

2 *1 Kor 7:10. Ni vet vilka föreskrifter vi har gett er från Herren. 3 *Ef 5:3, 1 Petr 1:16. Detta är Guds vilja: att ni helgas, att ni avhåller er från sexuell omoral, 4 *1 Kor 6:19. att ni var och en vet att vinna er en hustru*4:4vinna er en hustruAnnan översättning: "behärska er kropp". Grek. skeúos betyder ordagrant "kärl, redskap" och används ibland om människor (jfr Apg 9:15, 2 Kor 4:7, 2 Tim 2:21). Det kan i rabbinskt språkbruk syfta på äktenskapspartnern (jfr 1 Petr 3:7). på ett helgat och hedervärt sätt. 5 *Ps 79:6, Ef 4:17f. Det får inte ske i lidelser och begär som bland hedningarna som inte känner Gud, 6 *1 Kor 6:8. så att någon går för långt i denna sak och kränker sin broder. Herren straffar allt sådant, det har vi redan sagt och betygat för er. 7 *Rom 1:7, 2 Tess 2:13f. Gud har inte kallat oss till orenhet utan till ett liv i helgelse. 8 *Hes 36:27, Luk 10:16, Ef 4:30. Den som avvisar detta avvisar alltså inte en människa utan Gud, som ger er sin helige Ande.

9 *Jes 54:13, Joh 6:45, 13:34, 1 Joh 3:11. När det gäller syskonkärleken behöver vi inte skriva till er. Ni har ju själva lärt er av Gud att älska varandra, 10 *1 Tess 3:12. och den kärleken visar ni alla bröderna i hela Makedonien. Men vi uppmanar er, bröder, att göra det ännu mer. 11 *Ef 4:28, 2 Tess 3:11f. Sätt en ära i att leva lugnt och sköta ert och arbeta med era händer, så som vi befallt er, 12 *Kol 4:5, 1 Petr 2:12. så att ni väcker respekt hos de utomstående och inte behöver sakna något.

Herrens ankomst

13 *Ef 2:12. Bröder, vi vill att ni ska veta hur det blir med dem som har insomnat, så att ni inte sörjer som de andra, de som inte har något hopp. 14 *1 Kor 15:12f. Eftersom vi tror att Jesus har dött och uppstått, så ska Gud på samma sätt genom Jesus föra fram de insomnade tillsammans med honom.

15 *1 Kor 15:51f. Vi säger er detta enligt ett ord från Herren: vi som lever och är kvar till Herrens ankomst ska alls inte komma före de insomnade. 16 *Matt 24:30f, 2 Tess 1:7. När en befallning ljuder, en ärkeängels röst och en Guds basun, då ska Herren själv komma ner från himlen, och de som har dött i Kristus ska uppstå först. 17 *Joh 14:3, 17:24, Kol 3:4. Därefter ska vi som lever och är kvar ryckas upp bland skyar tillsammans med dem för att möta Herren i rymden. Och så ska vi alltid vara hos Herren. 18 Trösta därför varandra med dessa ord.
