Efésios 4

1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to walk worthily of the calling with which you were called, 2 with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, 3 being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, even as you also were called in one hope of your calling, 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in us all. 7 But to each one of us, the grace was given according to the measure of the gift of Christ. 8 Therefore he says,

"When he ascended on high,

he led captivity captive,

and gave gifts to people."✝4:8 Psalms 68:18

9 Now this, "He ascended", what is it but that he also first descended into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He who descended is the one who also ascended far above all the heavens, that he might fill all things.

11 He gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, shepherds*4:11 or, pastors and teachers; 12 for the perfecting of the saints, to the work of serving, to the building up of the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a full grown man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 that we may no longer be children, tossed back and forth and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error; 15 but speaking truth in love, we may grow up in all things into him who is the head, Christ, 16 from whom all the body, being fitted and knit together through that which every joint supplies, according to the working in measure of each individual part, makes the body increase to the building up of itself in love.

17 This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, 18 being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their hearts. 19 They, having become callous, gave themselves up to lust, to work all uncleanness with greediness. 20 But you didn’t learn Christ that way, 21 if indeed you heard him and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus: 22 that you put away, as concerning your former way of life, the old man that grows corrupt after the lusts of deceit, 23 and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.

25 Therefore, putting away falsehood, speak truth each one with his neighbor, for we are members of one another. 26 "Be angry, and don’t sin."✝4:26 Psalms 4:4 Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 and don’t give place*4:27 or, opportunity to the devil. 28 Let him who stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, producing with his hands something that is good, that he may have something to give to him who has need. 29 Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building others up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. 30 Don’t grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. 31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you.

Enheten i Kristi kropp

7 *Rom 12:3, 6, 1 Kor 12:4f. Men var och en av oss har fått nåden så som Kristus fördelade gåvan. 8 Därför heter det: Han steg upp i höjden, han tog fångar och gav människorna gåvor.*4:8 Ps 68:19. Ordet "gav" följer en rabbinsk tolkningstradition som återfinns i den arameiska targumen (översättningen) till Psaltaren.9 *Joh 3:13, 6:62, Ef 1:9f. Det att han steg upp, vad innebär det om inte att han också steg ner till jorden*4:9ner till jordenOrdagrant: "till den lägre jorden" (jämfört med himlen). Annan översättning: "ner i underjorden" (jfr 1 Petr 3:19).? 10 *Ef 1:23, Kol 1:19. Han som steg ner är också den som steg upp över alla himlar för att uppfylla allt.

11 *Luk 6:13, Rom 12:7, 1 Kor 12:28. Och han gav några till apostlar, andra till profeter, andra till evangelister och andra till herdar och lärare, 12 *2 Tim 3:17. för att utrusta de heliga till att fullgöra sin tjänst att bygga upp Kristi kropp 13 *Kol 1:28. tills vi alla når fram till enheten i tron och i kunskapen om Guds Son, som en fullvuxen man med ett mått av mognad som motsvarar Kristi fullhet.

14 *1 Kor 14:20, Hebr 13:9. Då är vi inte längre barn som kastas hit och dit och dras med av varje vindkast i läran, när människorna spelar sitt falska spel och listigt förleder till villfarelse. 15 *Ef 1:22, Kol 1:18. Nej, vi ska hålla fast vid sanningen i kärlek och på alla sätt växa upp till honom som är huvudet, Kristus. 16 *Ef 2:21, Kol 2:19. Av honom fogas hela kroppen samman och hålls ihop genom det stöd som varje led ger, med den kraft som är fördelad åt varje enskild del. Så får kroppen sin tillväxt och bygger upp sig själv i kärlek.

Det nya livet i Kristus

17 *1 Petr 4:3. Därför säger jag detta och varnar er i Herren: lev inte längre så som hedningarna lever. Deras tankar är tomma, 18 *Kol 1:21, 1 Petr 1:14. deras förstånd är förmörkat. De är främmande för livet i Gud därför att de är okunniga och förhärdade i sina hjärtan. 19 *Rom 1:24f. Avtrubbade kastar de sig ut i orgier och ägnar sig åt all slags orenhet och får aldrig nog.

20 Men det är inte så ni har lärt känna Kristus. 21 Ni har hört om honom och fått undervisning i honom enligt den sanning som finns hos Jesus. 22 *Rom 6:6, Kol 3:8f, 1 Petr 2:1. Därför ska ni lämna ert gamla liv och lägga bort den gamla människan som går under, bedragen av sina begär. 23 *Rom 12:2. Låt er förnyas till ande och sinne 24 *1 Mos 1:26f, 2 Kor 5:17. och klä er i den nya människan, som är skapad till likhet med Gud i sann rättfärdighet och helighet.

Se upp med hur ni lever

25 *Sak 8:16, Kol 3:9. Lägg därför bort lögnen och tala sanning med varandra. Vi är ju delar i samma kropp. 26 *Jak 1:19f.Grips ni av vrede, synda inte. Tjuven ska sluta stjäla och i stället arbeta och göra nytta med sina händer, så att han har något att dela med sig åt den som behöver.

Låt inga smutsiga ord komma över era läppar, utan bara det som är gott och bygger upp där det behövs, så att det blir till glädje för*4:29blir till glädje förAnnan översättning: "förmedlar nåd till". dem som hör det. 30 *Jes 63:10, Luk 21:28, 2 Kor 1:22. Bedröva inte Guds helige Ande, som ni har fått som ett sigill för befrielsens dag. 31 *Kol 3:8. Lägg bort all bitterhet, häftighet och vrede, allt skrikande och förolämpningar och all annan ondska. 32 *Matt 6:14, Kol 3:12f, 1 Petr 3:8. Var i stället goda och barmhärtiga mot varandra och förlåt varandra, så som Gud i Kristus har förlåtit er.
