Lucas 4

1 Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness 2 for forty days, being tempted by the devil. He ate nothing in those days. Afterward, when they were completed, he was hungry.

3 The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread."

4 Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.’"✝4:4 Deuteronomy 8:3

5 The devil, leading him up on a high mountain, showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 The devil said to him, "I will give you all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whomever I want. 7 If you therefore will worship before me, it will all be yours."

8 Jesus answered him, "Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and you shall serve him only.’"✝4:8 Deuteronomy 6:13

9 He led him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, cast yourself down from here, 10 for it is written,

‘He will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you;’

11 and,

‘On their hands they will bear you up,

lest perhaps you dash your foot against a stone.’"✝4:11 Psalms 91:11-12

12 Jesus answering, said to him, "It has been said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’"✝4:12 Deuteronomy 6:16

13 When the devil had completed every temptation, he departed from him until another time.

14 Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and news about him spread through all the surrounding area. 15 He taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all.

16 He came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. He entered, as was his custom, into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. 17 The book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. He opened the book, and found the place where it was written,

18 "The Spirit of the Lord is on me,

because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.

He has sent me to heal the broken hearted, * 4:18 NU omits "to heal the broken hearted"

to proclaim release to the captives,

recovering of sight to the blind,

to deliver those who are crushed,

19 and to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." ✝ 4:19 Isaiah 61:1-2

20 He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of all in the synagogue were fastened on him. 21 He began to tell them, "Today, this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

22 All testified about him and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Isn’t this Joseph’s son?"

23 He said to them, "Doubtless you will tell me this proverb, ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatever we have heard done at Capernaum, do also here in your hometown.’" 24 He said, "Most certainly I tell you, no prophet is acceptable in his hometown. 25 But truly I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land. 26 Elijah was sent to none of them, except to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow. 27 There were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed, except Naaman, the Syrian."

28 They were all filled with wrath in the synagogue as they heard these things. 29 They rose up, threw him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill that their city was built on, that they might throw him off the cliff. 30 But he, passing through the middle of them, went his way.

31 He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee. He was teaching them on the Sabbath day, 32 and they were astonished at his teaching, for his word was with authority. 33 In the synagogue there was a man who had a spirit of an unclean demon; and he cried out with a loud voice, 34 saying, "Ah! what have we to do with you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God!"

35 Jesus rebuked him, saying, "Be silent and come out of him!" When the demon had thrown him down in the middle of them, he came out of him, having done him no harm.

36 Amazement came on all and they spoke together, one with another, saying, "What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!" 37 News about him went out into every place of the surrounding region.

38 He rose up from the synagogue and entered into Simon’s house. Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a great fever, and they begged him to help her. 39 He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. Immediately she rose up and served them. 40 When the sun was setting, all those who had any sick with various diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them. 41 Demons also came out of many, crying out and saying, "You are the Christ, the Son of God!" Rebuking them, he didn’t allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.

42 When it was day, he departed and went into an uninhabited place and the multitudes looked for him, and came to him, and held on to him, so that he wouldn’t go away from them. 43 But he said to them, "I must preach the good news of God’s Kingdom to the other cities also. For this reason I have been sent." 44 He was preaching in the synagogues of Galilee.

Jesus frestas

Under de dagarna åt han ingenting, och när de var slut blev han hungrig. 3 Då sade djävulen till honom: "Om du är Guds Son, så befall den här stenen att bli bröd." 4 Jesus svarade honom: "Det står skrivet: Människan lever inte bara av bröd."*4:4 5 Mos 8:3.

5 Då tog djävulen med honom högt upp och visade honom för ett ögonblick världens alla riken, 6 *1 Joh 5:19. och djävulen sade: "Dig ska jag ge all denna makt och deras härlighet, för den är överlämnad åt mig och jag ger den till vem jag vill. 7 Så om du tillber mig, blir allt ditt." 8 Jesus svarade: "Det står skrivet: Herren din Gud ska du tillbe, och endast honom ska du tjäna."*4:8 5 Mos 6:13.

9 Sedan tog djävulen med honom till Jerusalem och ställde honom på tempelmurens krön*4:9tempelmurens krönOrdagrant: "templets vinge". Syftar antingen på tempelbyggnadens tak eller på yttermurens stup ner i den djupa Kidrondalen. och sade till honom: "Om du är Guds Son, så kasta dig ner härifrån! 10 Det står ju skrivet: Han ska befalla sina änglar att bevara dig, 11 och de ska bära dig på sina händer så att du inte stöter din fot mot någon sten."*4:10f Ps 91:11-12.12 Jesus svarade honom: "Det är sagt: Du ska inte fresta Herren din Gud."*4:12 5 Mos 6:16.

13 När djävulen hade frestat honom på alla sätt, lämnade han honom för en tid.

Jesus i Nasarets synagoga

14 *Matt 4:12, Apg 10:37f. I Andens kraft återvände Jesus till Galileen, och ryktet om honom gick ut i hela området. 15 Han undervisade i deras synagogor och fick lovord av alla.

16 *Matt 13:53f, Mark 6:1f. Så kom han till Nasaret, där han hade vuxit upp. På sabbaten gick han som han brukade till synagogan. Han reste sig för att läsa ur Skriften, 17 och man räckte honom profeten Jesajas bokrulle. När han öppnade rullen, fann han stället där det står skrivet:

18 *Jes 58:6.Herrens Ande är över mig,*4:18fJes 61:1f, 3 Mos 25:10.

för han har smort mig

till att förkunna glädjens budskap

för de fattiga.

Han har sänt mig

att utropa frihet för de fångna

och syn för de blinda,

att ge de förtryckta frihet

19 och förkunna ett nådens år från Herren.

20 Sedan rullade han ihop bokrullen, räckte den till tjänaren och satte sig*4:20satte sigJudiska rabbiner undervisade normalt sittande (jfr Matt 5:1, 23:2).. Alla i synagogan hade sina ögon fästa på honom. 21 Då började han tala till dem: "I dag har det här stället i Skriften gått i uppfyllelse inför er som lyssnar." 22 *5 Mos 8:3, Mark 6:2f. Alla berömde honom*4:22 berömde honomOrdagrant: "vittnade för honom" (eller mot, jfr Matt 13:54f). och förundrades över de nådens ord*4:22nådens ordAnnan översättning: "vackra ord". som kom från hans mun. De frågade: "Är det inte Josefs son?"

23 Då sade han till dem: "Säkert kommer ni att citera ordspråket för mig: Läkare, bota dig själv! Vi har hört om allt som hände i Kapernaum, gör det här i din hemstad också!" 24 *Matt 13:57, Joh 4:44. Men han fortsatte: "Jag säger er sanningen*4:24Jag säger er sanningenOrdagrant: "Amen, jag säger er". Hebr. amén betyder närmast "sant", "trovärdigt". Jesus använder uttrycket ofta och kallar sig själv för "Amen" (Upp 3:14) och sanningen själv (Joh 14:6).: Ingen profet blir erkänd i sin hemstad. 25 *1 Kung 17:1, 9. I sanning säger jag er: Det fanns många änkor i Israel på Elias tid, när himlen var stängd i tre år och sex månader och svår svält drabbade hela landet. 26 *1 Kung 17:7f. Men Elia blev inte sänd till någon av dem, utan bara till en änka i Sarefat i Sidons land. 27 *2 Kung 5:1f. Och det fanns många spetälska i Israel på profeten Elisas tid, men ingen av dem blev renad utan bara syriern Naaman."*4:26fen änka i Sarefat … syriern NaamanSe 1 Kung 17:7f, 2 Kung 5:1f.

28 Alla i synagogan fylldes av vrede när de fick höra detta. 29 De reste sig och drev ut honom ur staden och förde honom fram till branten av det berg där deras stad var byggd för att kasta ner honom. 30 Men han gick rakt igenom folkhopen och vandrade vidare.

Jesus i Kapernaum

31 *Matt 4:13, Mark 1:21f. Han kom ner till Kapernaum, en stad i Galileen, och undervisade folket på sabbaten. 32 *Matt 7:28f. De var överväldigade av hans undervisning, eftersom hans ord hade makt.

33 *Mark 1:23f. I synagogan fanns en man med en oren ande, och han skrek högt: 34 *Joh 6:69. "Sluta! Vad har vi med dig att göra, Jesus från Nasaret? Har du kommit för att fördärva oss? Jag vet vem du är: Guds Helige!" 35 Då talade Jesus strängt till anden: "Tig! Far ut ur honom!" Anden kastade omkull mannen mitt ibland dem och for ut ur honom utan att skada honom. 36 Alla greps av bävan och sade till varandra: "Vad är det med hans ord? Med makt och myndighet befaller han de orena andarna och de far ut." 37 Och ryktet om honom gick ut överallt i området.

38 *Matt 8:14f, Mark 1:29f. Jesus lämnade synagogan och gick hem till Simon. Där låg Simons svärmor i hög feber, och de bad Jesus hjälpa henne. 39 Han gick då fram och lutade sig över henne och talade strängt till febern, och den släppte. Genast steg hon upp och betjänade dem.

40 *Matt 8:16f, Mark 1:32f. När solen gick ner kom alla till honom med sina sjuka som led av olika åkommor, och han lade händerna på var och en av dem och botade dem. 41 Även onda andar for ut ur många, och de skrek: "Du är Guds Son!" Men han tillrättavisade dem och lät dem inte tala, eftersom de visste att han var Messias.

42 *Mark 1:35f. När det blev dag, gick han bort till en enslig plats. Folket sökte efter honom, och när de kom fram till honom ville de hålla kvar honom så att han inte skulle lämna dem. 43 Men han sade till dem: "Jag måste förkunna evangeliet om Guds rike för de andra städerna också. Det är därför jag är utsänd." 44 Och han predikade i synagogorna i Judeen.
