Lucas 8

1 Soon afterwards, he went about through cities and villages, preaching and bringing the good news of God’s Kingdom. With him were the twelve, 2 and certain women who had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary who was called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out; 3 and Joanna, the wife of Chuzas, Herod’s steward; Susanna; and many others who served them*8:3 TR reads "him" instead of "them" from their possessions. 4 When a great multitude came together and people from every city were coming to him, he spoke by a parable: 5 "The farmer went out to sow his seed. As he sowed, some fell along the road, and it was trampled under foot, and the birds of the sky devoured it. 6 Some seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it grew, it withered away, because it had no moisture. 7 Some fell amid the thorns, and the thorns grew with it and choked it. 8 Some fell into the good ground and grew and produced one hundred times as much fruit." As he said these things, he called out, "He who has ears to hear, let him hear!"

9 Then his disciples asked him, "What does this parable mean?"

10 He said, "To you it is given to know the mysteries of God’s Kingdom, but to the rest it is given in parables, that ‘seeing they may not see, and hearing they may not understand.’✝8:10 Isaiah 6:9

11 "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. 12 Those along the road are those who hear; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their heart, that they may not believe and be saved. 13 Those on the rock are they who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; but these have no root. They believe for a while, then fall away in time of temptation. 14 What fell among the thorns, these are those who have heard, and as they go on their way they are choked with cares, riches, and pleasures of life; and they bring no fruit to maturity. 15 Those in the good ground, these are those who with an honest and good heart, having heard the word, hold it tightly, and produce fruit with perseverance.

16 "No one, when he has lit a lamp, covers it with a container or puts it under a bed; but puts it on a stand, that those who enter in may see the light. 17 For nothing is hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light. 18 Be careful therefore how you hear. For whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever doesn’t have, from him will be taken away even that which he thinks he has."

19 His mother and brothers came to him, and they could not come near him for the crowd. 20 Some people told him, "Your mother and your brothers stand outside, desiring to see you."

21 But he answered them, "My mother and my brothers are these who hear the word of God and do it."

22 Now on one of those days, he entered into a boat, himself and his disciples, and he said to them, "Let’s go over to the other side of the lake." So they launched out. 23 But as they sailed, he fell asleep. A wind storm came down on the lake, and they were taking on dangerous amounts of water. 24 They came to him and awoke him, saying, "Master, Master, we are dying!" He awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water; then they ceased, and it was calm.✝8:24 See Psalms 107:29 25 He said to them, "Where is your faith?" Being afraid, they marveled, saying to one another, "Who is this then, that he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him?"

26 Then they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is opposite Galilee. 27 When Jesus stepped ashore, a certain man out of the city who had demons for a long time met him. He wore no clothes, and didn’t live in a house, but in the tombs. 28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, "What do I have to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torment me!" 29 For Jesus was commanding the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For the unclean spirit had often seized the man. He was kept under guard and bound with chains and fetters. Breaking the bonds apart, he was driven by the demon into the desert.

30 Jesus asked him, "What is your name?"

He said, "Legion," for many demons had entered into him. 31 They begged him that he would not command them to go into the abyss.

32 Now there was there a herd of many pigs feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he would allow them to enter into those. Then he allowed them. 33 The demons came out of the man and entered into the pigs, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned.

34 When those who fed them saw what had happened, they fled and told it in the city and in the country.

35 People went out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and found the man from whom the demons had gone out, sitting at Jesus’ feet, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. 36 Those who saw it told them how he who had been possessed by demons was healed. 37 All the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them, for they were very much afraid. Then he entered into the boat and returned. 38 But the man from whom the demons had gone out begged him that he might go with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39 "Return to your house, and declare what great things God has done for you." He went his way, proclaiming throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.

40 When Jesus returned, the multitude welcomed him, for they were all waiting for him. 41 Behold, a man named Jairus came. He was a ruler of the synagogue. He fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged him to come into his house, 42 for he had an only born*8:42 The phrase "only born" is from the Greek word "μονογενη", which is sometimes translated "only begotten" or "one and only". daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as he went, the multitudes pressed against him. 43 A woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her living on physicians and could not be healed by any, 44 came behind him and touched the fringe*8:44 or, tassel of his cloak. Immediately the flow of her blood stopped.

45 Jesus said, "Who touched me?"

When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, "Master, the multitudes press and jostle you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’"

46 But Jesus said, "Someone did touch me, for I perceived that power has gone out of me." 47 When the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before him declared to him in the presence of all the people the reason why she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. 48 He said to her, "Daughter, cheer up. Your faith has made you well. Go in peace."

49 While he still spoke, one from the ruler of the synagogue’s house came, saying to him, "Your daughter is dead. Don’t trouble the Teacher."

50 But Jesus hearing it, answered him, "Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be healed."

51 When he came to the house, he didn’t allow anyone to enter in, except Peter, John, James, the father of the child, and her mother. 52 All were weeping and mourning her, but he said, "Don’t weep. She isn’t dead, but sleeping."

53 They were ridiculing him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he put them all outside, and taking her by the hand, he called, saying, "Child, arise!" 55 Her spirit returned, and she rose up immediately. He commanded that something be given to her to eat. 56 Her parents were amazed, but he commanded them to tell no one what had been done.

Kvinnorna som följde Jesus

Liknelsen om såningsmannen

4 *Matt 13:1f, Mark 4:1f. När mycket folk samlades och man kom ut till honom från stad efter stad, talade han till dem med en liknelse: 5 "En såningsman gick ut för att så sitt utsäde. När han sådde föll en del vid vägen och trampades ner, och himlens fåglar åt upp det. 6 En del föll på stenig mark, och när det växte upp vissnade det bort, för det fick ingen fukt. 7 En del föll bland tistlar, och tistlarna växte upp samtidigt och kvävde det. 8 Men en del föll i god jord, och det växte upp och gav hundrafaldig skörd*8:8hundrafaldig skördEn övernaturligt rik skörd (jfr 1 Mos 26:12). I förmodern tid har svenska skördar normalt gett mindre än tiofalt jämfört med utsädet.." När han hade sagt detta, ropade han: "Hör, du som har öron att höra med!"

Liknelsens innebörd

9 *Matt 13:10f, Mark 4:10f. Hans lärjungar frågade honom sedan vad liknelsen betydde. 10 *Jes 6:9f, Joh 12:40, Apg 28:26. Han svarade: "Ni har fått nåden att förstå Guds rikes hemligheter. Men de andra får dem i liknelser, för att de ska se och ändå inte se, höra och ändå inte förstå.*8:10 Jes 6:9.11 *Matt 13:18f, Mark 4:14f. Här är liknelsens mening: Säden är Guds ord. 12 De vid vägen är de som hör ordet, men sedan kommer djävulen och tar bort det ur deras hjärtan så att de inte kan tro och bli frälsta. 13 De på stenig mark är de som tar emot ordet med glädje när de hör det, men de saknar rot. De tror bara för en tid, och i frestelsens stund kommer de på fall. 14 *1 Tim 6:9. Det som föll bland tistlar är de som hör ordet men som allt mer kvävs av livets bekymmer, rikedom och njutningar och aldrig bär mogen frukt. 15 Men det som föll i god jord är de som hör ordet och tar vara på det i ett gott och uppriktigt hjärta och uthålligt bär frukt.

16 *Matt 5:15, Luk 11:33. Ingen tänder ett ljus och täcker det med ett kärl eller sätter det under en bänk*8:16bänkAnnan översättning: "bädd" eller "divan".. Man sätter det på hållaren, så att de som kommer in får se ljuset. 17 *Matt 10:26, Luk 12:2. Det finns inget dolt som inte ska uppenbaras, och inget gömt som inte ska bli känt och komma i dagen. 18 *Matt 13:12, Mark 4:25, Luk 19:26. Var därför noga med hur ni lyssnar. Den som har ska få, men den som inte har ska bli fråntagen också det han tror sig ha."

Jesu familj

19 *Matt 12:46f, Mark 3:31f. Då kom Jesu mor och hans bröder till honom, men de kunde inte komma fram till honom för folkmassans skull. 20 Man hälsade honom: "Din mor och dina bröder står här utanför och vill träffa dig." 21 *Joh 15:14. Han svarade dem: "Min mor och mina bröder, det är de som hör Guds ord och handlar efter det."

Jesus stillar stormen

22 *Matt 8:18, 23f, Mark 4:35f. En dag steg Jesus i en båt tillsammans med sina lärjungar, och han sade till dem: "Vi far över till andra sidan sjön." De lade ut, 23 och medan de seglade somnade han.

Då kom en stormvind ner över sjön, och båten tog in så mycket vatten att den höll på att fyllas och de var i fara. 24 De kom fram och väckte honom och sade: "Mästare, Mästare, vi går under!" Han vaknade och talade strängt till vinden och vågorna, och de lade sig och det blev stilla. 25 Sedan frågade han dem: "Var är er tro?" Förskräckta och förundrade sade de till varandra: "Vem är han? Till och med vindarna och vattnet befaller han, och de lyder honom!"

Jesus botar en besatt

26 *Matt 8:28f, Mark 5:1f. De seglade in till gerasenernas område*8:26gerasenernas områdeAndra handskrifter: "gadarenernas område" (jfr Matt 8:28). Både Gerasa och Gadara var grekiska städer strax sydost om Galileiska sjön., som ligger mitt emot Galileen. 27 När Jesus steg i land, möttes han av en man från staden. Han var besatt av onda andar och hade inte haft kläder på sig på länge, och han bodde inte i något hus utan bland gravarna. 28 När han fick se Jesus, ropade han och föll ner inför honom och skrek: "Vad har du med mig att göra, Jesus, den högste Gudens Son? Jag ber dig: plåga mig inte!"

29 Jesus hade nämligen befallt den orena anden att fara ut ur mannen. Länge hade den hållit honom i sitt grepp. Han hade varit bunden med kedjor och fotbojor och blivit bevakad, men han hade slitit sönder bojorna och drivits ut i ödemarken av den onda anden. 30 Jesus frågade honom: "Vad är ditt namn?" Han svarade: "Legion*8:30LegionEn romersk armé med ca 6000 man.", för det var många onda andar som hade kommit in i honom. 31 Och de bad Jesus att han inte skulle befalla dem att fara ner i avgrunden.

32 Nu gick där en stor svinhjord och betade på berget, och de onda andarna bad att han skulle låta dem fara in i svinen. Det tillät han. 33 Andarna for ut ur mannen och in i svinen, och hjorden rusade utför branten ner i sjön och drunknade.

34 När herdarna såg vad som hade hänt, flydde de och berättade om det inne i staden och ute på landet. 35 Folk gick ut för att se vad som hade hänt. De kom till Jesus och fann mannen som andarna hade lämnat sitta vid Jesu fötter, klädd och vid sina sinnen. Då blev de rädda. 36 De som var ögonvittnen berättade för dem hur den besatte hade blivit frisk*8:36friskAnnan översättning: "frälst".. 37 Allt folket från gerasenernas område bad då att Jesus skulle lämna dem, för de hade gripits av stark fruktan. Han steg i båten och vände tillbaka.

38 Mannen som de onda andarna hade farit ut ur bad att få följa med honom, men Jesus skickade i väg honom med orden: 39 "Gå hem igen och berätta om allt som Gud har gjort med dig." Då gick han och ropade ut över hela staden allt som Jesus hade gjort med honom.

Jesus uppväcker Jairus dotter

40 När Jesus kom tillbaka välkomnade folket honom, eftersom alla väntade på honom. 41 *Matt 9:18f, Mark 5:22f. Då kom det fram en man som hette Jairus och var föreståndare för synagogan. Han föll ner för Jesu fötter och bad honom komma hem till honom, 42 för han hade en enda dotter, i tolvårsåldern, och hon var döende.

På vägen dit trängde sig folkmassan nära Jesus. 43 *Matt 9:20f, Mark 5:25f. Där fanns en kvinna som hade haft blödningar i tolv år och inte kunnat*8:43och inte kunnatAndra handskrifter: "och spenderat allt hon hade på läkare men inte kunnat". bli botad av någon. 44 Hon kom bakifrån och rörde vid hörntofsen*8:44hörntofsenBars på manteln som en symbol för Guds bud (4 Mos 15:38f). på hans mantel, och genast stannade hennes blödning.

45 Jesus frågade: "Vem var det som rörde vid mig?" Alla nekade, och Petrus sade: "Mästare, hela folkmassan trycker och tränger sig inpå dig." 46 Men Jesus sade: "Någon rörde vid mig. Jag kände att kraft gick ut från mig." 47 När kvinnan insåg att hon var upptäckt, kom hon darrande fram och föll ner för honom. Hon förklarade inför allt folket varför hon hade rört vid honom och hur hon genast hade blivit botad. 48 *Matt 9:22. Jesus sade till henne: "Min dotter, din tro har frälst dig. Gå i frid."

49 *Mark 5:35f. Medan han ännu talade, kom någon från synagogföreståndarens hus och sade: "Din dotter är död. Besvära inte Mästaren mer." 50 Jesus hörde det och svarade honom: "Var inte rädd. Bara tro, så blir hon räddad." 51 *Matt 9:23f. När han kom fram till huset lät han ingen följa med honom in utom Petrus, Johannes och Jakob och flickans far och mor. 52 Alla grät och sörjde henne*8:52sörjde henneOrdagrant: "slog sig mot bröstet över henne" (i sorg, jfr 18:13 med not).. Men Jesus sade: "Gråt inte. Hon är inte död, hon sover." 53 Då hånskrattade de åt honom, för de visste att hon var död.

54 *Luk 7:14. Men han tog flickans hand och ropade: "Flicka, stå upp!" 55 Hennes livsande återvände, och hon reste sig genast. Sedan sade han till dem att ge henne något att äta. 56 *Luk 5:14. Hennes föräldrar var helt utom sig av häpnad. Men Jesus befallde dem att inte tala om för någon vad som hade hänt.
