1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, who had been dead, whom he raised from the dead. 2 So they made him a supper there. Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with him. 3 Therefore Mary took a pound*12:3 a Roman pound of 12 ounces, or about 340 grams of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.

4 Then Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said, 5 "Why wasn’t this ointment sold for three hundred denarii*12:5 300 denarii was about a year’s wages for an agricultural laborer. and given to the poor?" 6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.

7 But Jesus said, "Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial. 8 For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me."

9 A large crowd therefore of the Jews learned that he was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead. 10 But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also, 11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.

12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, "Hosanna!*12:13 "Hosanna" means "save us" or "help us, we pray". Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,✝12:13 Psalms 118:25-26 the King of Israel!"

14 Jesus, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written, 15 "Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt."✝12:15 Zechariah 9:9 16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him. 17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it. 18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign. 19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him."

20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast. 21 Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we want to see Jesus." 22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.

23 Jesus answered them, "The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

27 "Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? But I came to this time for this cause. 28 Father, glorify your name!"

Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again."

29 Therefore the multitude who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to him."

30 Jesus answered, "This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes. 31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." 33 But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

34 The multitude answered him, "We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever.✝12:34 Isaiah 9:7; Daniel 2:44; See Isaiah 53:8 How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?"

35 Jesus therefore said to them, "Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light." Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them. 37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him, 38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke:

"Lord, who has believed our report?

To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?"✝12:38 Isaiah 53:1

39 For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again:

40 "He has blinded their eyes and he hardened their heart,

lest they should see with their eyes,

and perceive with their heart,

and would turn,

and I would heal them."✝12:40 Isaiah 6:10

41 Isaiah said these things when he saw his glory, and spoke of him.✝12:41 Isaiah 6:1 42 Nevertheless, even many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees they didn’t confess it, so that they wouldn’t be put out of the synagogue, 43 for they loved men’s praise more than God’s praise.

44 Jesus cried out and said, "Whoever believes in me, believes not in me, but in him who sent me. 45 He who sees me sees him who sent me. 46 I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in the darkness. 47 If anyone listens to my sayings and doesn’t believe, I don’t judge him. For I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He who rejects me, and doesn’t receive my sayings, has one who judges him. The word that I spoke will judge him in the last day. 49 For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me gave me a commandment, what I should say and what I should speak. 50 I know that his commandment is eternal life. The things therefore which I speak, even as the Father has said to me, so I speak."

1 Cu șase zile înainte de Paște, Isus a venit în Betania, unde*Cap. 11:1,43. era Lazăr, care fusese mort și pe care îl înviase din morți. 2 Acolo, I-au*Mat. 26:6.Marcu 14:3. pregătit o cină. Marta slujea, iar Lazăr era unul din cei ce ședeau la masă cu El. 3 Maria*Luca 10:38,39. Cap. 11:2. a luat un litru cu mir de nard curat, de mare preț, a uns picioarele lui Isus și I-a șters picioarele cu părul ei și s-a umplut casa de mirosul mirului. 4 Unul din ucenicii Săi, Iuda Iscarioteanul, fiul lui Simon, care avea să-L vândă, a zis: 5 „De ce nu s-a vândut acest mir cu trei sute de lei și să se fi dat săracilor?" 6 Zicea lucrul acesta nu pentru că purta grijă de săraci, ci pentru că era un hoț și, ca unul care ținea*Cap. 13:29. punga, lua el ce se punea în ea. 7 Dar Isus a zis: „Las-o în pace, căci ea l-a păstrat pentru ziua îngropării Mele.8 Pe*Mat. 26:11.Marcu 14:7.săraci îi aveți totdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveți totdeauna."9 O mare mulțime de iudei au aflat că Isus era în Betania și au venit acolo nu numai pentru Isus, ci ca să vadă și pe Lazăr, pe*Cap. 11:43,44. care-l înviase din morți. 10 Preoții cei mai de seamă*Luca 16:31. au hotărât să omoare și pe Lazăr, 11 căci*Cap. 11:45. Vers. 18. din pricina lui mulți iudei plecau de la ei și credeau în Isus.

12 A doua zi*Mat. 21:8.Marcu 11:8.Luca 19:35,36., o gloată mare, care venise la praznic, cum a auzit că vine Isus în Ierusalim, 13 a luat ramuri de finic și I-a ieșit în întâmpinare, strigând: „Osana*Ps. 118:25,26.! Binecuvântat este Cel ce vine în Numele Domnului, Împăratul lui Israel!" 14 Isus a găsit*Mat. 21:7. un măgăruș și a încălecat pe el, după cum este scris: 15 „Nu*Zah. 9:9. te teme, fiica Sionului; iată că Împăratul tău vine călare pe mânzul unei măgărițe." 16 Ucenicii Lui n-au*Luca 18:34. înțeles aceste lucruri de la început, dar*Cap. 7:39., după ce a fost proslăvit Isus, și-au*Cap. 14:26. adus aminte că aceste lucruri erau scrise despre El și că ei le împliniseră cu privire la El. 17 Toți cei ce fuseseră împreună cu Isus când chemase pe Lazăr din mormânt și-l înviase din morți mărturiseau despre El. 18 Și*Vers. 11. norodul I-a ieșit în întâmpinare, pentru că aflase că făcuse semnul acesta. 19 Fariseii au zis deci între ei: „Vedeți*Cap. 11:47,48. că nu câștigați nimic. Iată că lumea se duce după El!"

20 Niște*Fapte 17:4.1 Împ. 8:41,42.Fapte 8:27. greci dintre cei ce se suiseră să se închine la praznic 21 s-au apropiat de Filip, care*Cap. 1:44. era din Betsaida Galileii, l-au rugat și au zis: „Domnule, am vrea să vedem pe Isus." 22 Filip s-a dus și a spus lui Andrei, apoi Andrei și Filip au spus lui Isus. 23 Drept răspuns, Isus le-a zis: „A*Cap. 13:32;17:1.sosit ceasul să fie proslăvit Fiul omului.24 Adevărat, adevărat vă spun că, dacă grăuntele*1 Cor. 15:36.de grâu care a căzut pe pământ nu moare, rămâne singur, dar dacă moare, aduce multă roadă.25 Cine*Mat. 10:39;16:25.Marcu 8:35.Luca 9:24;17:33.își iubește viața o va pierde și cine își urăște viața în lumea aceasta o va păstra pentru viața veșnică.26 Dacă Îmi slujește cineva, să Mă urmeze; și unde*Cap. 14:3;17:24.1 Tes. 4:17.sunt Eu, acolo va fi și slujitorul Meu. Dacă Îmi slujește cineva, Tatăl îl va cinsti.27 Acum*Mat. 26:38,39.Luca 12:50. Cap. 13:21., sufletul Meu este tulburat. Și ce voi zice: ‘Tată, izbăvește-Mă din ceasul acesta’? Dar*Luca 22:53. Cap. 18:37.tocmai pentru aceasta am venit până la ceasul acesta!28 Tată, proslăvește Numele Tău!" Și*Mat. 3:17. din cer, s-a auzit un glas, care zicea: „L-am proslăvit și-L voi mai proslăvi!" 29 Norodul care stătea acolo și care auzise glasul a zis că a fost un tunet. Alții ziceau: „Un înger a vorbit cu El!" 30 Isus a răspuns: „Nu pentru Mine s-a auzit glasul acesta*Cap. 11:42., ci pentru voi.31 Acum are loc judecata lumii acesteia, acum stăpânitorul*Mat. 12:29.Luca 10:18. Cap. 14:30;16:11.Fapte 26:18.2 Cor. 4:4.Efes. 2:2;6:12.lumii acesteia va fi aruncat afară.32 Și după ce*Cap. 3:14;8:28.voi fi înălțat de pe pământ, voi atrage la Mine pe*Rom. 5:18.Evr. 2:9.toți oamenii."33 Vorbind*Cap. 18:32. astfel, arăta cu ce moarte avea să moară. 34 Norodul I-a răspuns: „Noi*Ps. 89:36,37;110:4.Is. 9:7;35:8.Ezec. 37:25.Dan. 2:44;7:14,27.Mica 4:7. am auzit din Lege că Hristosul rămâne în veac. Cum dar zici Tu că Fiul omului trebuie să fie înălțat? Cine este acest Fiu al omului?" 35 Isus le-a zis: „Lumina mai este*Cap. 1:9;8:12;9:5. Vers. 46.puțină vreme în mijlocul vostru. Umblați*Ier. 13:16.Efes. 5:8.ca unii care aveți lumina, ca să nu vă cuprindă întunericul: cine*Cap. 11:10.1 Ioan 2:11.umblă în întuneric nu știe unde merge.36 Câtă vreme aveți lumina printre voi, credeți în lumină, ca să fiți fii*Luca 16:8.Efes. 5:8.1 Tes. 5:5.1 Ioan 2:9-11.ai luminii." Isus le-a spus aceste lucruri, apoi a plecat și S-a*Cap. 8:59;11:54. ascuns de ei.

37 Măcar că făcuse atâtea semne înaintea lor, tot nu credeau în El, 38 ca să se împlinească vorba pe care o spusese prorocul Isaia: „Doamne*Is. 53:1.Rom. 10:16., cine a dat crezare propovăduirii noastre și cui a fost descoperită puterea brațului Domnului?" 39 De aceea nu puteau crede, pentru că Isaia a mai zis: 40 „Le-a*Is. 6:9,10.Mat. 13:14. orbit ochii și le-a împietrit inima, ca să nu vadă cu ochii, să nu înțeleagă cu inima, să nu se întoarcă la Dumnezeu și să-i vindec." 41 Isaia a spus aceste*Is. 6:1. lucruri când a văzut slava Lui și a vorbit despre El. 42 Totuși, chiar dintre fruntași, mulți au crezut în El; dar de frica fariseilor*Cap. 7:13;9:22., nu-L mărturiseau pe față, ca să nu fie dați afară din sinagogă. 43 Căci*Cap. 5:44. au iubit mai mult slava oamenilor decât slava lui Dumnezeu. 44 Iar Isus a strigat: „Cine*Cap. 5:44.crede în Mine nu crede în Mine, ci în Cel ce M-a trimis pe Mine.45 Și cine*Cap. 14:9.Mă vede pe Mine vede pe Cel ce M-a trimis pe Mine.46 Eu*Cap. 3:19;8:12;9:5,39; Vers. 35,36.am venit ca să fiu o lumină în lume, pentru ca oricine crede în Mine să nu rămână în întuneric.47 Dacă aude cineva cuvintele Mele și nu le păzește, nu Eu*Cap. 5:45;8:15,26.îl judec, căci Eu n-am*Cap. 3:17.venit să judec lumea, ci să mântuiesc lumea.48 Pe cine*Luca 10:16.Mă nesocotește și nu primește cuvintele Mele, are cine-l osândi: Cuvântul*Deut. 18:19.Marcu 16:16.pe care l-am vestit Eu, acela îl va osândi în ziua de apoi.49 Căci Eu*Cap. 8:38;14:10.n-am vorbit de la Mine Însumi, ci Tatăl, care M-a trimis, El Însuși Mi-a poruncit ce*Deut. 18:18.trebuie să spun și cum trebuie să vorbesc.50 Și știu că porunca Lui este viața veșnică. De aceea lucrurile pe care le spun, le spun așa cum Mi le-a spus Tatăl."
