| 1 mapa | After these things, and their establishment, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself. | Ezen dolgok és igazságos [cselekedetek] után eljöve Sénakhérib, az Assiriabeli király, és Júdába menvén, megszállá a megerõsített városokat, azt mondván, hogy elfoglalja azokat magának. |
| 2 | And when Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he purposed to fight against Jerusalem, | Mikor tehát Ezékiás látta, hogy Sénakhérib eljöve, és Jeruzsálemet meg akarná szállani: |
| 3 | He took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the fountains which were without the city: and they helped him. | Tanácsot tarta vezéreivel és vitézeivel, hogy a városon kivül való forrásokat betöltsék; és azok segítségére lõnek néki; |
| 4 mapa | So there were assembled many people, who stopped all the fountains, and the brook that ran through the midst of the land, saying, Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water? | Mert összegyûlvén a sokaság, bedugának minden forrást és az ország közepén folyó patakot, mondván: Miért találjanak az assiriai királyok elegendõ vizet, ha eljõnek?! |
| 5 mapa | Also he strengthened himself, and built up all the wall that was broken, and raised it up to the towers, and another wall without, and repaired Millo in the city of David, and made darts and shields in abundance. | És felbátorodván, megépíté a város leromlott kerítését, felemelvén a tornyokig, és kivül másik kõfalat is [emelt], s Millót a Dávid városában megerõsíté; ennekfelette szerze sok fegyvert és paizst. |
| 6 | And he set captains of war over the people, and assembled them to him in the street of the gate of the city, and encouraged them, saying, | És a nép fölé seregvezéreket tett, és maga köré gyûjtvén õket a város kapujának utczájára, szóla az õ szívök szerint ekképen: |
| 7 mapa | Be strong and courageous, be not afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude that is with him: for there are more with us than with him: | Erõsek legyetek és bátrak, semmit se féljetek, meg se rettenjetek az assiriai királytól és a vele való egész sokaságtól, mert velünk többen vannak, hogynem õ vele. |
| 8 | With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God to help us, and to fight our battles. And the people rested themselves upon the words of Hezekiah king of Judah. | Õ vele testi erõ van, velünk pedig az Úr a mi Istenünk, hogy megsegéljen minket és érettünk hadakozzék. És megbátorodék a nép, ezt hallván Ezékiástól, a Júda királyától. |
| 9 mapa | After this Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (but he himself laid siege against Lachish, and all his power with him,) to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah that were at Jerusalem, saying, | Ezek után elküldé szolgáit Sénakhérib, az assiriai király Jeruzsálembe (õ pedig Lákis mellett volt egész seregével) Ezékiáshoz a Júda királyához, és az egész Júdához, mely Jeruzsálemben vala, mondván: |
| 10 mapa | Thus saith Sennacherib king of Assyria, On what do ye trust, that ye abide in the siege in Jerusalem? | Ezt mondja Sénakhérib, az assiriai király: Kiben bíztok, hogy Jeruzsálemben maradtok a megszállás idején? |
| 11 mapa | Doth not Hezekiah persuade you to give over yourselves to die by famine and by thirst, saying, The LORD our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria? | Avagy nem Ezékiás áltatott-é el titeket, hogy éhséggel és szomjúsággal ölne meg titeket, mondván: Az Úr, a mi Istenünk megszabadít minket az Assiriabeli király kezébõl! |
| 12 | Hath not the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall worship before one altar, and burn incense upon it? | Avagy nem Ezékiás pusztította-é el az õ magaslatait és oltárait, mikor így szólott Júdához és Jeruzsálemhez, mondván: [Csak] egy oltár elõtt imádkozzatok, és [csak] azon tömjénezzetek?! |
| 13 | Know ye not what I and my fathers have done to all the people of other lands? were the gods of the nations of those lands any ways able to deliver their lands out of my hand? | Avagy nem tudjátok-é, mit mûveltem én és az én atyáim e föld minden népeivel? Vajjon e föld nemzetségeinek istenei megszabadíthatták-é az én kezembõl az õ földöket? |
| 14 | Who was there among all the gods of those nations that my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand? | És kicsoda e nemzetségek istenei közül az, a melyeket az én atyáim elvesztettek, a ki az én kezembõl az õ népét megszabadíthatta volna, hogy a ti Istenetek is az én kezembõl titeket megszabadíthatna? |
| 15 | Now therefore let not Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this manner, neither yet believe him: for no god of any nation or kingdom hath been able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers: how much less shall your God deliver you out of my hand? | Most azért Ezékiás titeket el ne ámítson és meg ne csaljon ily módon; ne higyjetek néki, mert ha egy népnek és országnak istene sem szabadíthatta meg az õ népét kezembõl és az én atyáim kezébõl: mennyivel kevésbbé szabadíthat meg titeket a ti Istenetek az én kezembõl! |
| 16 | And his servants spoke yet more against the LORD God, and against his servant Hezekiah. | Sõt ezenkivül az õ szolgái még sokat szólának az Úr Isten ellen, és az õ szolgája Ezékiás ellen. |
| 17 | He wrote also letters to rail at the LORD God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other lands have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliver his people out of my hand. | Levelet is íra, az Urat, Izráel Istenét káromlással illetvén, és szólván ellene ilyen módon: A mint e földön lakozó népek istenei meg nem szabadíthatták az õ népöket az én kezembõl: ekképen az Ezékiás Istene sem szabadíthatja meg az õ népét kezembõl. |
| 18 | Then they cried with a loud voice in the Jews' speech to the people of Jerusalem that were on the wall, to affright them, and to fill them with consternation; that they might take the city. | És kiáltnak nagy felszóval zsidó nyelven Jeruzsálem népe ellen, mely a kerítésen vala, hogy õket megrettentenék és megháborítanák, [abban a reményben], hogy így a várost elfoglalhatják. |
| 19 mapa | And they spoke against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, the work of the hands of man. | És [úgy] szólának a Jeruzsálem Istenérõl, mint a föld népeinek istenei felõl, melyek emberi kézzel csináltattak. |
| 20 | And for this cause Hezekiah the king, and the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz, prayed and cried to heaven. | Akkor Ezékiás király könyörge, és [õ vele] Ésaiás próféta az Ámós fia e [káromlásért,] és felkiáltának az égre. |
| 21 mapa | And the LORD sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. And when he had come into the house of his god, they that came forth from his own bowels slew him there with the sword. | És elbocsátá az Úr az õ angyalát, a ki megöle minden erõs vitézt, elõljárót és vezért az assiriai király táborában, és nagy szégyennel megtére az õ földébe. Bemenvén pedig az õ istenének házába, ott az õ saját fiai fegyverrel ölék meg õt. |
| 22 mapa | Thus the LORD saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side. | Megszabadítá azért az Úr Ezékiást és a Jeruzsálem népét Sénakhéribtõl az assiriai királytól, és minden másoktól, és védelmezé õket mindenfelõl. |
| 23 mapa | And many brought gifts to the LORD to Jerusalem, and presents to Hezekiah king of Judah: so that from thenceforth he was magnified in the sight of all nations. | És sokan ajándékokat hoznak vala Jeruzsálembe az Úrnak, Ezékiásnak is a Júda királyának drágaságokat, és õ felmagasztaltatott minden pogányok szemei elõtt azután. |
| 24 | In those days Hezekiah was sick and near to death, and he prayed to the LORD: and he spoke to him, and he gave him a sign. | Az idõben Ezékiás halálos betegségbe esék; de könyörgött az Úrhoz, a ki szóla hozzá és csudajelt adott néki. |
| 25 mapa | But Hezekiah rendered not again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. | De nem cselekedék Ezékiás az õ hozzá való jótétemény szerint, mert magában felfuvalkodék, azért [Istennek] haragja lõn rajta, Júdán és Jeruzsálemen. |
| 26 mapa | Notwithstanding, Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah. | Azonban megalázta magát Ezékiás az õ felfuvalkodottságában, Jeruzsálem lakosaival egybe; ezért nem szálla [többé] reájok az Úrnak haragja Ezékiás életében. |
| 27 | And Hezekiah had very great riches and honor: and he made himself treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all manner of pleasant jewels: | És igen nagy gazdagsága és dicsõsége vala Ezékiásnak. És csináltatott magának kincsesházat az ezüst, arany, drágakövek és drága fûszerszámok, paizsok és mindenféle drága szerszámok számára; |
| 28 | Store-houses also for the increase of corn, and wine, and oil; and stalls for all manner of beasts, and cotes for flocks. | És tárházakat jövedelmének a gabonának, bornak, olajnak számára, és mindenféle barom számára istállókat, a nyájaknak pedig aklokat. |
| 29 | Moreover, he provided for himself cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance: for God had given him substance in great abundance. | Városokat is építe magának, és szerze igen sok juhot és barmot, mert az Isten nagy gazdagságot adott néki. |
| 30 mapa | This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper watercourse of Gihon, and brought it straight down to the west side of the city of David. And Hezekiah prospered in all his works. | És Ezékiás volt az, a ki betömé a Gihon vizeinek felsõ forrását, és Dávid városának napnyugat felõl való részén vezeté lefelé. És minden dolgában igen szerencsés vala Ezékiás; |
| 31 mapa | But, in the business of the embassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart. | De mivel a Babilóniabeli fejedelmek követeivel [megbarátkozék,] a kik õ hozzá küldettek, hogy megtudakoznák a csudajelt, mely a földön lõn; elhagyá õt az Isten, hogy megkisértené õt és meglátná, mi volna az õ szívében. |
| 32 | Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his goodness, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, and in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. | Ezékiásnak pedig többi dolgai és jótéteményei ímé meg vannak írva az Ésaiás prófétának, az Ámós fiának látásában, [és] a Júda és Izráel királyainak könyvében. |
| 33 mapa | And Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the chief of the sepulchers of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death: and Manasseh his son reigned in his stead. | Meghala pedig Ezékiás az õ atyáival, és eltemeték õt a Dávid fiainak sírjaihoz vivõ feljárón, és mind az egész Júda és Jeruzsálem nagy tisztességet tettek néki az õ halálának idején. És uralkodék Manasse, az õ fia helyette. |
