1 E Jeosafá, rei de Judá, voltou em paz à sua casa em Jerusalém.2 E Jeú, filho de Hanani, o vidente, saiu ao encontro do rei Jeosafá e lhe disse: Devias tu ajudar ao ímpio, e amar aqueles que odeiam ao Senhor? Por isso virá sobre ti grande ira da parte do Senhor.3 Boas coisas contudo se acharam em ti; porque tiraste os bosques da terra, e preparaste o teu coração para buscar a Deus.4 Habitou, pois, Jeosafá em Jerusalém; e tornou a passar pelo povo desde Berseba até as montanhas de Efraim, e fez com que tornassem ao Senhor Deus de seus pais.5 E estabeleceu juízes na terra, em todas as cidades fortificadas de Judá, de cidade em cidade.6 E disse aos juízes: Vede o que fazeis; porque não julgais da parte do homem, senão da parte do Senhor, e ele está convosco quando julgardes.7 Agora, pois, seja o temor do Senhor convosco; guardai-o, e fazei-o; porque não há no Senhor nosso Deus iniquidade nem acepção de pessoas, nem aceitação de suborno.8 E também estabeleceu Jeosafá em Jerusalém a alguns dos levitas e dos sacerdotes e dos chefes dos pais de Israel sobre o juízo do Senhor, e sobre as causas judiciais; e voltaram a Jerusalém.9 E deu-lhes ordem, dizendo: Assim fazei no temor do Senhor, com fidelidade, e com coração íntegro.10 E em toda a diferença que vier a vós de vossos irmãos que habitam nas suas cidades, entre sangue e sangue, entre lei e mandamento, entre estatutos e juízos, admoestai-os, que não se façam culpados para com o Senhor, e não venha grande ira sobre vós, e sobre vossos irmãos; fazei assim, e não vos fareis culpados.11 E eis que Amarias, o sumo sacerdote, presidirá sobre vós em todo o negócio do Senhor; e Zebadias, filho de Ismael, líder da casa de Judá, em todo o negócio do rei; também os oficiais, os levitas, estão perante vós; esforçai-vos, pois, e fazei-o; e o Senhor será com os bons.

1 And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace, to Jerusalem.2 And there came out to meet him Jehu the son of Chanani the seer, and said to king Jehoshaphat, Shouldst thou help the wicked, and love those that hate the Lord? and because of this there is wrath over thee from before the Lord.3 Nevertheless there are good things found on thee; because thou hast removed the Asheroth out of the land, and hast directed thy heart firmly to seek God.4 And Jehoshaphat remained at Jerusalem; but he went out again through the people from Beer–sheba’ as far as the mountain of Ephraim, and caused them to return unto the Lord the God of their fathers.5 And he appointed judges in the land in all the fortified cities of Judah, in city by city.6 And he said to the judges, Look well at what ye are doing; because not for man are ye to judge, but for the Lord, who is with you in pronouncing judgment.7 And now let the dread of the Lord be upon you: take heed and act; for with the Lord our God there is no injustice, nor respect for persons, nor taking of bribes.8 But also in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat appoint some of the Levites, and the priests, and of the chiefs of the family divisions of Israel, for the giving of the judgment of the Lord, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem.9 And he charged on them, saying, Thus shall ye do in the fear of the Lord, in faithfulness, and with an undivided heart.10 And whatsoever controversy may come to you from your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between law and commandment, statutes and ordinances, ye shall truly warn them that they incur not guilt against the Lord, and so there come wrath over you, and over your brethren: so must ye do, and ye will not incur guilt.11 And, behold, Amaryahu the chief priest is over you for every matter of the Lord; and Zebadyahu the son of Yishma’el, the ruler for the house of Judah, for every matter of the king; and the Levites are officers before you. Be strong and act, and may the Lord be with the good.
