1 Então o povo da terra tomou a Jeoacaz, filho de Josias, e o fez rei em lugar de seu pai, em Jerusalém.2 Tinha Jeoacaz a idade de vinte e três anos, quando começou a reinar; e três meses reinou em Jerusalém,3 Porque o rei do Egito o depôs em Jerusalém, e condenou a terra à contribuição de cem talentos de prata e um talento de ouro.4 E o rei do Egito pôs a Eliaquim, irmão de Jeoacaz, rei sobre Judá e Jerusalém, e mudou-lhe o nome em Jeoiaquim; mas a seu irmão Jeoacaz tomou Neco, e levou-o para o Egito.5 Tinha Jeoiaquim vinte e cinco anos de idade, quando começou a reinar, e reinou onze anos em Jerusalém; e fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor seu Deus.6 Subiu, pois, contra ele Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e o amarrou com cadeias, para o levar a Babilônia.7 Também alguns dos vasos da casa do Senhor levou Nabucodonosor a Babilônia, e pô-los no seu templo em Babilônia.8 Quanto ao mais dos atos de Jeoiaquim, e as abominações que fez, e o mais que se achou nele, eis que estão escritos no livro dos reis de Israel e de Judá; e Joaquim, seu filho, reinou em seu lugar.9 Tinha Joaquim a idade de oito anos, quando começou a reinar; e reinou três meses e dez dias em Jerusalém; e fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor.10 E no decurso de um ano enviou o rei Nabucodonosor, e mandou trazê-lo a Babilônia, com os mais preciosos vasos da casa do Senhor; e pôs a Zedequias, seu irmão, rei sobre Judá e Jerusalém.11 Tinha Zedequias a idade de vinte e um anos, quando começou a reinar; e onze anos reinou em Jerusalém.12 E fez o que era mau aos olhos do Senhor seu Deus; nem se humilhou perante o profeta Jeremias, que falava da parte do Senhor.13 Além disto, também se rebelou contra o rei Nabucodonosor, que o tinha ajuramentado por Deus. Mas endureceu a sua cerviz, e tanto se obstinou no seu coração, que não se converteu ao Senhor Deus de Israel.14 Também todos os chefes dos sacerdotes e o povo aumentavam de mais em mais as transgressões, segundo todas as abominações dos gentios; e contaminaram a casa do Senhor, que ele tinha santificado em Jerusalém.15 E o Senhor Deus de seus pais, falou-lhes constantemente por intermédio dos mensageiros, porque se compadeceu do seu povo e da sua habitação.16 Eles, porém, zombaram dos mensageiros de Deus, e desprezaram as suas palavras, e mofaram dos seus profetas; até que o furor do Senhor tanto subiu contra o seu povo, que mais nenhum remédio houve.17 Porque fez subir contra eles o rei dos caldeus, o qual matou os seus jovens à espada, na casa do seu santuário, e não teve piedade nem dos jovens, nem das donzelas, nem dos velhos, nem dos decrépitos; a todos entregou na sua mão.18 E todos os vasos da casa de Deus, grandes e pequenos, os tesouros da casa do Senhor, e os tesouros do rei e dos seus príncipes, tudo levou para Babilônia.19 E queimaram a casa de Deus, e derrubaram os muros de Jerusalém, e todos os seus palácios queimaram a fogo, destruindo também todos os seus preciosos vasos.20 E os que escaparam da espada levou para Babilônia; e fizeram-se servos dele e de seus filhos, até ao tempo do reino da Pérsia.21 Para que se cumprisse a palavra do Senhor, pela boca de Jeremias, até que a terra se agradasse dos seus sábados; todos os dias da assolação repousou, até que os setenta anos se cumpriram.22 Porém, no primeiro ano de Ciro, rei da Pérsia (para que se cumprisse a palavra do Senhor pela boca de Jeremias), despertou o Senhor o espírito de Ciro, rei da Pérsia, o qual fez passar pregão por todo o seu reino, como também por escrito, dizendo:23 Assim diz Ciro, rei da Pérsia: O Senhor Deus dos céus me deu todos os reinos da terra, e me encarregou de lhe edificar uma casa em Jerusalém, que está em Judá. Quem há entre vós, de todo o seu povo, o Senhor seu Deus seja com ele, e suba.

1 And the people of the land took Jehoachaz the son of Josiah, and made him king in his father’s stead in Jerusalem.2 Twenty and three years old was Joachaz when he became king, and three months did he reign in Jerusalem.3 And the king of Egypt deposed him at Jerusalem, and imposed a fine on the land of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold.4 And the king of Egypt made Elyakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem, and changed his name to Jehoyakim. And Joachaz his brother did Necho take away, and bring him to Egypt.5 Twenty and five years old was Jehoyakim when he became king, and eleven years did he reign in Jerusalem: and he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord his God.6 Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and he bound him with fetters, to carry him away to Babylon.7 And some of the vessels of the house of the Lord did Nebuchadnezzar carry to Babylon, and he placed them in his temple at Babylon.8 And the rest of the acts of Jehoyakim, and his abominable deeds which he did, and that which was found concerning him, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoyachin his son became king in his stead.9 Eight years old was Jehoyachin when he became king, and three months and ten days did he reign in Jerusalem: and he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord.10 And with the expiration of the year did king Nebuchadnezzar send and had him brought to Babylon, with the costly vessels of the house of the Lord: and he made Zedekiah his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem,11 Twenty and one years old was Zedekiah when he became king, and eleven years did he reign in Jerusalem.12 And he did what is evil in the eyes of the Lord his God: he humbled himself not before Jeremiah the prophet, according to the order of the Lord.13 And also against king Nebuchadnezzar did he rebel, who had made him swear by God; but he stiffened his neck, and hardened his heart so as not to return unto the Lord the God of Israel.14 Also all the chiefs of the priests and the people committed manifold trespasses, like all the abominable acts of the foreign nations: and they defiled the house of the Lord which he had hallowed in Jerusalem.15 And the Lord the God of their fathers sent to them by means of his messengers, making them rise early, and sending them: because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling–place;16 But they mocked at the messengers of God, and despised his words, and scorned his prophets, until the fury of the Lord arose against his people, till there was no remedy.17 And he brought over them the king of the Chaldeans, who slew their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary, and had no compassion upon young man or virgin, the old man, and the aged: all did he give up into his hand.18 And all the vessels of the house of God, the great and the small, and the treasures of the house of the Lord, and the treasures of the king and of his princes,––all these did he carry to Babylon.19 And they burnt the house of God, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem, and all her palaces they burnt with fire, and all her costly vessels they gave up to destruction.20 And those that had escaped from the sword did he carry into exile to Babylon: and they were servants to him and to his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to the government:21 To fulfill the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, until the land had satisfied its sabbaths: all the days of its desolation it rested, till seventy years were completed.22 And in the first year of Cyrus the king of Persia, at the completion of the word of the Lord by the mouth of Jeremiah, did the Lord stir up the spirit of Cyrus the king of Persia, so that he caused a proclamation to be made throughout all his kingdom, and also by means of writing, saying,23 Thus hath said Cyrus the king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath the Lord the God of heaven given me, and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all his people, may the Lord his God be with him, and let him go up.
