1 Vindo, pois, Roboão a Jerusalém, reuniu, da casa de Judá e Benjamim, cento e oitenta mil escolhidos, destros na guerra, para pelejarem contra Israel, e para restituírem o reino a Roboão.2 Porém a palavra do Senhor veio a Semaías, homem de Deus, dizendo:3 Fala a Roboão, filho de Salomão, rei de Judá, e a todo o Israel, em Judá e Benjamim, dizendo:4 Assim diz o Senhor: Não subireis, nem pelejareis contra os vossos irmãos; volte cada um à sua casa; porque de mim proveio isto. E ouviram as palavras do Senhor, e desistiram de ir contra Jeroboão.5 E Roboão habitou em Jerusalém; e para defesa, edificou cidades em Judá.6 Edificou, pois, a Belém, a Etã, e a Tecoa,7 E a Bete-Zur, a Socó, a Adulão,8 E a Gate, a Maressa, a Zife,9 E a Adoraim, a Laquis, e a Azeca,10 E a Zorá, a Aijalom, e a Hebrom, que estavam em Judá e em Benjamim; cidades fortes.11 E fortificou estas fortalezas e pôs nelas capitães, e armazéns de víveres, de azeite, e de vinho.12 E pôs em cada cidade paveses e lanças; fortificou-as grandemente; e Judá e Benjamim pertenceram-lhe.13 Também os sacerdotes e os levitas, que havia em todo o Israel, se reuniram a ele de todos os seus termos.14 Porque os levitas deixaram os seus arrabaldes, e a sua possessão, e vieram a Judá e a Jerusalém, porque Jeroboão e seus filhos os lançaram fora para que não ministrassem ao Senhor.15 E ele constituiu para si sacerdotes, para os altos, para os demônios, e para os bezerros, que fizera.16 Depois desses também, de todas as tribos de Israel, os que deram o seu coração a buscarem ao Senhor Deus de Israel, vieram a Jerusalém, para oferecerem sacrifícios ao Senhor Deus de seus pais.17 Assim fortaleceram o reino de Judá e corroboraram a Roboão, filho de Salomão, por três anos; porque três anos andaram no caminho de Davi e Salomão.18 E Roboão tomou para si, por mulher, a Maalate, filha de Jerimote, filho de Davi; e Abiail, filha de Eliabe, filho de Jessé.19 A qual lhe deu filhos: Jeús, Samarias e Zaã.20 E depois dela tomou a Maaca, filha de Absalão; esta lhe deu Abias, Atai, Ziza e Selomite.21 E amava Roboão mais a Maaca, filha de Absalão, do que a todas as suas outras mulheres e concubinas; porque ele tinha tomado dezoito mulheres, e sessenta concubinas; e gerou vinte e oito filhos, e sessenta filhas.22 E Roboão designou Abias, filho de Maaca, para ser chefe e líder entre os seus irmãos, porque queria fazê-lo rei.23 E usou de prudência, e de todos os seus filhos, alguns espalhou por todas as terras de Judá, e Benjamim, por todas as cidades fortes; e deu-lhes víveres em abundância; e lhes procurou muitas mulheres.

1 And when Rehobo’am was come to Jerusalem, he assembled the house of Judah and Benjamin a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, warriors, to fight against Israel, to bring back the kingdom again to Rehobo’am.2 But the word of the Lord came unto Shema’yahu the man of God, saying,3 Say unto Rehobo’am the son of Solomon, the king of Judah and Benjamin, saying,4 Thus hath said the Lord, Ye shall not go up, nor fight with your brethren: return every man to his house; for from me hath this thing been brought about. And they hearkened to the words of the Lord, and returned from going against Jerobo’am.5 And Rehobo’am dwelt in Jerusalem, and built cities as fortresses in Judah.6 He built, namely, Beth–lechem, and ‘Etam, and Thekoa’.7 And Beth–zur, and Socho, and ‘Adullam,8 And Gath, and Mareshah, and Ziph,9 And Adorayim and Lachish, and ‘Azekah,10 And Zor’ah, and Ayalon, and Hebron, which are in Judah and in Benjamin, fortified cities.11 And he strengthened the strong–holds, and put commanders in them, and stores of food, and oil and wine;12 And in each and every city he placed shields and spears, and made them exceedingly strong: and thus remained with him Judah and Benjamin.13 And the priests and the Levites that were in all Israel presented themselves to him out of all their territory.14 For the Levites left their open districts and their possession, and went to Judah and Jerusalem; because Jerobo’am and his sons cast them off from executing the priest’s office unto the Lord,15 And because he ordained for himself priests for the high–places, and for the evil spirits, and for the calves which he had made.16 And after them came out of all the tribes of Israel such as directed their heart to seek the Lord the God of Israel: these came to Jerusalem, to sacrifice unto the Lord, the God of their fathers.17 And they strengthened the kingdom of Judah, and brought power to Rehobo’am, the son of Solomon, during three years; for they walked in the way of David and Solomon during three years.18 And Rehobo’am took himself as wife Machalath the daughter of Jerimoth the son of David, and Abichayil the daughter of Eliab the son of Jesse;19 And she bore to him sons: Je’ush, and Shamaryah, and Zaham.20 And after her did he take Ma’achah the daughter of Abshalom; and she bore to him Abiyah, and ‘Attai, and Ziza, and Shelomith.21 And Rehobo’am loved Ma’achah the daughter of Abshalom more than all his wives and his concubines; for he had taken eighteen wives and sixty concubines; and he begat twenty and eight sons, and sixty daughters.22 And Rehobo’am appointed Abiyah the son of Ma’achah to be the chief, to be ruler among his brethren; because he desired to make him king.23 And he dealt understandingly, and dispersed all his children throughout all the countries of Judah and Benjamin, unto all the fortified cities; and he gave them food in abundance and he required for them a multitude of wives.
