1 In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared unto me, even unto me, Daniel, after that which appeared unto me at the first. 2 And I saw in the vision; now it was so, that when I saw, I was in Shushan the palace, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai. 3 Then I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last. 4 I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; and no beasts could stand before him, neither was there any that could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and magnified himself.

5 And as I was considering, behold, a he-goat came from the west over the face of the whole earth, and touched not the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes. 6 And he came to the ram that had the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and ran upon him in the fury of his power. 7 And I saw him come close unto the ram, and he was moved with anger against him, and smote the ram, and brake his two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled upon him; and there was none that could deliver the ram out of his hand. 8 And the he-goat magnified himself exceedingly: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notable horns toward the four winds of heaven.

9 And out of one of them came forth a little horn, which waxed exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious land. 10 And it waxed great, even to the host of heaven; and some of the host and of the stars it cast down to the ground, and trampled upon them. 11 Yea, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the host; and it took away from him the continual burnt-offering, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down. 12 And the host was given over to it together with the continual burnt-offering through transgression; and it cast down truth to the ground, and it did its pleasure and prospered. 13 Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said unto that certain one who spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the continual burnt-offering, and the transgression that maketh desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me, Unto two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

15 And it came to pass, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought to understand it; and, behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man. 16 And I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision. 17 So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was affrighted, and fell upon my face: but he said unto me, Understand, O son of man; for the vision belongeth to the time of the end. 18 Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright. 19 And he said, Behold, I will make thee know what shall be in the latter time of the indignation; for it belongeth to the appointed time of the end. 20 The ram which thou sawest, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia. 21 And the rough he-goat is the king of Greece: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king. 22 And as for that which was broken, in the place whereof four stood up, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not with his power. 23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. 24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper and do his pleasure; and he shall destroy the mighty ones and the holy people. 25 And through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and in their security shall he destroy many: he shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand. 26 And the vision of the evenings and mornings which hath been told is true: but shut thou up the vision; for it belongeth to many days to come. 27 And I, Daniel, fainted, and was sick certain days; then I rose up, and did the king’s business: and I wondered at the vision, but none understood it.

1 În anul al treilea al domniei împăratului Belșațar, eu, Daniel, am avut o vedenie, afară de cea pe care o avusesem mai înainte*Cap. 7:1.. 2 Când am avut vedenia aceasta, mi s-a părut că eram la capitala Susa*Est. 1:2., în ținutul Elam, și, în timpul vedeniei mele, mă aflam lângă râul Ulai. 3 Am ridicat ochii, m-am uitat și iată că într-un râu stătea un berbec și avea două coarne; coarnele acestea erau înalte, dar unul era mai înalt decât celălalt și cel mai înalt a crescut cel din urmă. 4 Am văzut cum berbecul împungea cu coarnele spre apus, spre miazănoapte și spre miazăzi; nicio fiară nu putea să-i stea împotrivă și nimeni nu putea să scape pe cine-i cădea în mână, ci el făcea ce voia*Cap. 5:19;11:3,16. și a ajuns puternic. 5 Pe când mă uitam cu băgare de seamă, iată că a venit un țap de la apus și a cutreierat toată fața pământului, fără să se atingă de el; țapul acesta însă avea un corn*Vers. 21. mare între ochi. 6 A venit până la berbecul care avea coarne și pe care-l văzusem stând în râu și s-a repezit asupra lui cu toată puterea lui. 7 L-am văzut cum s-a apropiat de berbec, s-a aruncat încruntat asupra lui, a izbit pe berbec și i-a frânt amândouă coarnele, fără ca berbecul să i se fi putut împotrivi; l-a trântit la pământ și l-a călcat în picioare, și nimeni n-a scăpat pe berbec din mâna lui. 8 Țapul însă a ajuns foarte puternic, dar, când a fost puternic de tot, i s-a frânt cornul cel mare. În locul lui au crescut patru coarne mari*Cap. 7:6. Vers. 22. Cap. 11:4., în cele patru vânturi ale cerurilor. 9 Dintr-unul*Cap. 7:8;11:21. din ele a crescut un corn mic, care s-a mărit nespus de mult spre miazăzi*Cap. 11:25., spre răsărit și spre țara*Ps. 48:2.Ezec. 20:6,15. Cap. 11:16,45. cea minunată. 10 S-a înălțat*Cap. 11:28. până la oștirea cerurilor*Is. 14:13., a doborât*Apoc. 12:4. la pământ o parte din oștirea aceasta și din stele și le-a călcat în picioare. 11 S-a înălțat*Ier. 48:26,42. Vers. 25. Cap. 11:36. până la căpetenia*Cap. 11:31;12:11. oștirii, i-a smuls*Ios. 5:14. jertfa necurmată*Exod 29:38.Num. 28:3.Ezec. 46:13. și i-a surpat locul locașului său celui sfânt. 12 Oastea*Cap. 11:31. a fost pedepsită din pricina păcatului săvârșit împotriva jertfei necurmate; cornul a aruncat adevărul*Ps. 119:43,142.Is. 59:14. la pământ și a izbutit*Vers. 4. Cap. 11:28,36. în ce a început. 13 Am auzit pe un sfânt*Cap. 4:13;12:6.1 Pet. 1:12. vorbind și un alt sfânt a întrebat pe cel ce vorbea: „În câtă vreme se va împlini vedenia despre desființarea jertfei necurmate și despre urâciunea pustiirii? Până când vor fi călcate în picioare Sfântul Locaș și oștirea?" 14 Și el mi-a zis: „Până vor trece două mii trei sute de seri și dimineți; apoi Sfântul Locaș va fi curățit!" 15 Pe când eu, Daniel, aveam vedenia aceasta și căutam*Cap. 12:8.1 Pet. 1:10,11. s-o pricep, iată că înaintea mea stătea cineva care avea înfățișarea unui om*Ezec. 1:26.. 16 Și am auzit un glas de om în mijlocul râului*Cap. 12:6,7. Ulai, care a strigat și a zis: „Gavrile*Cap. 9:21.Luca 1:19,26., tâlcuiește-i vedenia aceasta!" 17 El a venit atunci lângă locul unde eram și, la apropierea lui, m-am înspăimântat și am căzut*Ezec. 1:28.Apoc. 1:17. cu fața la pământ. El mi-a zis: „Fii cu luare aminte, fiul omului, căci vedenia privește vremea sfârșitului!" 18 Pe când*Cap. 10:9,10.Luca 9:32. îmi vorbea el, am căzut cu fața la pământ leșinat. El m-a atins*Ezec. 2:2. și m-a așezat iarăși în picioare în locul în care mă aflam. 19 Apoi mi-a zis: „Iată, îți arăt ce se va întâmpla la vremea de apoi a mâniei, căci vedenia aceasta privește*Cap. 9:27;11:27,35,36;12:7.Hab. 2:3. vremea sfârșitului. 20 Berbecul*Vers. 3. pe care l-ai văzut, cu cele două coarne, sunt împărații mezilor și perșilor. 21 Țapul*Vers. 5. însă este împărăția Greciei, și cornul cel mare dintre ochii lui este cel dintâi împărat*Cap. 11:3.. 22 Cele patru coarne care au crescut în locul acestui corn frânt*Vers. 8. Cap. 11:4. sunt patru împărății care se vor ridica din neamul acesta, dar care nu vor avea atâta putere. 23 La sfârșitul stăpânirii lor, când păcătoșii vor fi umplut măsura nelegiuirilor, se va ridica un împărat*Vers. 6. fără rușine*Deut. 28:50. și viclean. 24 El va fi tare, dar*Apoc. 17:13,17. nu prin puterea lui însuși; el va face pustiiri de necrezut, va izbuti*Vers. 12. Cap. 11:36. în tot ce va începe, va nimici*Vers. 10. Cap. 7:25. pe cei puternici și chiar pe poporul sfinților. 25 Din pricina propășirii*Cap. 11:21,23,24. lui și izbândirii vicleniilor lui, inima i se va îngâmfa*Vers. 11. Cap. 11:36., va pierde pe mulți oameni care trăiau liniștiți și se va ridica*Vers. 11. Cap. 11:36. împotriva Domnului domnilor, dar va fi zdrobit fără ajutorul vreunei mâini*Iov 34:20.Plâng. 4:6. Cap. 2:34,45. omenești. 26 Iar vedenia*Cap. 10:1. cu serile și diminețile de care a fost vorba este adevărată. Tu pecetluiește*Ezec. 12:27. Cap. 10:14;12:4,9.Apoc. 22:10. vedenia aceasta, căci este cu privire la niște vremuri îndepărtate." 27 Eu*Cap. 7:28;10:8,16., Daniel, am stat leșinat și bolnav mai multe zile; apoi m-am sculat și mi-am văzut de treburile*Cap. 6:2,3. împăratului. Eram uimit de vedenia aceasta, și*Vers. 6. nimeni nu știa.
