1 But I say that so long as the heir is a child, he differeth nothing from a bondservant though he is lord of all; 2 but is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed of the father. 3 So we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the rudiments of the world: 4 but when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 that he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. 6 And because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father. 7 So that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

8 Howbeit at that time, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to them that by nature are no gods: 9 but now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye desire to be in bondage over again? 10 Ye observe days, and months, and seasons, and years. 11 I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

12 I beseech you, brethren, become as I am, for I also am become as ye are. Ye did me no wrong: 13 but ye know that because of an infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you the first time: 14 and that which was a temptation to you in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but ye received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus. 15 Where then is that gratulation of yourselves? for I bear you witness, that, if possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me. 16 So then am I become your enemy, by telling you the truth? 17 They zealously seek you in no good way; nay, they desire to shut you out, that ye may seek them. 18 But it is good to be zealously sought in a good matter at all times, and not only when I am present with you. 19 My little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you— 20 but I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone; for I am perplexed about you.

21 Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? 22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the freewoman. 23 Howbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise. 24 Which things contain an allegory: for these women are two covenants; one from mount Sinai, bearing children unto bondage, which is Hagar. 25 Now this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia and answereth to the Jerusalem that now is: for she is in bondage with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother. 27 For it is written,

Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not;

Break forth and cry, thou that travailest not:

For more are the children of the desolate than of her that hath the husband.

28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise. 29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, so also it is now. 30 Howbeit what saith the scripture? Cast out the handmaid and her son: for the son of the handmaid shall not inherit with the son of the freewoman. 31 Wherefore, brethren, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the freewoman.

Cap. 3:26.Efes. 1:5. să căpătăm înfierea. 6 Și pentru că sunteți fii, Dumnezeu ne-a trimis în inimă Duhul*Rom. 5:5;8:15. Fiului Său, care strigă: „Ava!", adică „Tată!" 7 Așa că nu mai ești rob, ci fiu; și dacă*Rom. 8:16,17. Cap. 3:29. ești fiu, ești și moștenitor prin Dumnezeu.

8 Odinioară, când nu cunoșteați*Efes. 2:12.1 Tes. 4:5. pe Dumnezeu, erați robiți*Rom. 1:25.1 Cor. 12:2.Efes. 2:11,12.1 Tes. 1:9. celor ce, din firea lor, nu sunt dumnezei. 9 Dar acum, după ce*1 Cor. 8:3;13:12.2 Tim. 2:19. ați cunoscut pe Dumnezeu, sau mai bine zis după ce ați fost cunoscuți de Dumnezeu, cum*Cap. 3:3.Col. 2:20. vă mai întoarceți iarăși la acele învățături*Rom. 8:3. începătoare, slabe și sărăcăcioase, cărora vreți să vă supuneți din nou? 10 Voi păziți zile*Rom. 14:5.Col. 2:16., luni, vremuri și ani. 11 Mă tem să*Cap. 2:2;5:2,4.1 Tes. 3:5. nu mă fi ostenit degeaba pentru voi. 12 Fraților, vă rog să fiți ca mine, căci și eu sunt ca voi. Nu*2 Cor. 2:5. mi-ați făcut nicio nedreptate. 13 Dimpotrivă, știți că*1 Cor. 2:3.2 Cor. 11:30;12:7,9. în neputința trupului v-am propovăduit Evanghelia pentru întâia*Cap. 1:6. dată. 14 Și n-ați arătat nici dispreț, nici dezgust față de ceea ce era o ispită pentru voi în trupul meu, dimpotrivă, m-ați primit ca*2 Sam. 19:27.Zah. 12:8.Mal. 2:7. pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu, ca*Mat. 10:40.Luca 10:16.Ioan 13:20.1 Tes. 2:13. pe Însuși Hristos Isus. 15 Unde este dar fericirea voastră? Căci vă mărturisesc că, dacă ar fi fost cu putință, v-ați fi scos până și ochii și mi i-ați fi dat. 16 M-am făcut oare vrăjmașul vostru pentru că*Cap. 2:5,14. v-am spus adevărul? 17 Nu cu gând bun*Rom. 10:2.2 Cor. 11:2. sunt plini de râvnă ei pentru voi, ci vor să vă dezlipească de noi ca să fiți plini de râvnă față de ei. 18 Este bine să fii plin de râvnă totdeauna pentru bine, nu numai când sunt de față la voi. 19 Copilașii mei*1 Cor. 4:15.Filim. 10.Iac. 1:18., pentru care iarăși simt durerile nașterii până ce va lua Hristos chip în voi! 20 O, cum aș vrea să fiu acum de față la voi și să-mi schimb glasul, căci nu știu ce să mai cred!

21 Spuneți-mi voi, care voiți să fiți sub Lege, n-ascultați voi Legea? 22 Căci este scris că Avraam a avut doi fii: unul*Gen. 16:15. din roabă și unul*Gen. 21:2. din femeia slobodă. 23 Dar cel din roabă s-a*Rom. 9:7,8. născut în chip firesc, iar*Gen. 18:10,14;21:1,2.Evr. 11:11. cel din femeia slobodă s-a născut prin făgăduință. 24 Lucrurile acestea trebuie luate într-alt înțeles – acestea sunt două legăminte: unul de pe muntele Sinai*Deut. 23:2. naște pentru robie și este Agar, 25 căci Agar este muntele Sinai din Arabia; și răspunde Ierusalimului de acum, care este în robie împreună cu copiii săi. 26 Dar Ierusalimul*Is. 2:2.Evr. 12:22.Apoc. 3:12;21:2,10. cel de sus este slobod și el este mama noastră. 27 Fiindcă este scris: „Bucură-te*Is. 54:1., stearpo, care nu naști deloc! Izbucnește de bucurie și strigă, tu, care nu ești în durerile nașterii! Căci copiii celei părăsite vor fi în număr mai mare decât copiii celei cu bărbat." 28 Și voi, fraților, ca și Isaac, voi sunteți copii*Fapte 3:25.Rom. 9:8. Cap. 3:29. ai făgăduinței. 29 Și cum s-a întâmplat atunci, că cel*Gen. 21:9. ce se născuse în chip firesc prigonea pe cel ce se născuse prin Duhul, tot așa*Cap. 5:11;6:12. se întâmplă și acum. 30 Dar ce zice Scriptura*Cap. 3:8,22.? „Izgonește*Gen. 21:10,12. pe roabă și pe fiul ei, căci fiul*Ioan 8:35. roabei nu va moșteni împreună cu fiul femeii slobode." 31 De aceea, fraților, noi nu suntem copiii celei roabe, ci*Ioan 8:36. Cap. 5:1,13. ai femeii slobode. Hristos ne-a izbăvit ca să fim slobozi.
