Wisdom 9

1 "Deus de nossos pais, e Senhor de misericórdia, que todas as coisas criastes pela vossa palavra,

2 e que, por vossa sabedoria, formastes o homem para ser o senhor de todas as vossas criaturas,

3 governar o mundo na santidade e na justiça, e proferir seu julgamento na retidão de sua alma,

4 dai-me a sabedoria que partilha do vosso trono, e não me rejeiteis como indigno de ser um de vossos filhos.

5 Sou, com efeito, vosso servo e filho de vossa serva, um homem fraco, cuja existência é breve, incapaz de compreender vosso julgamento e vossas leis;

6 porque qualquer homem, mesmo perfeito, entre os homens, não será nada, se lhe falta a sabedoria que vem de vós.

7 Ora, vós me escolhestes para ser rei de vosso povo e juiz de vossos filhos e vossas filhas.

8 Vós me ordenastes construir um templo na vossa montanha santa e um altar na cidade em que habitais: imagem da sagrada habitação que preparastes desde o princípio.

9 Mas ao vosso lado está a sabedoria que conhece vossas obras; ela estava presente quando fizestes o mundo, ela sabe o que vos é agradável, e o que se conforma às vossas ordens.

10 Fazei-a, pois, descer de vosso santo céu, e enviai-a do trono de vossa glória, para que, junto de mim, tome parte em meus trabalhos, e para que eu saiba o que vos agrada.

11 Com efeito, ela sabe e conhece todas as coisas; prudentemente guiará meus passos e me protegerá no brilho de sua glória.

12 Assim, minhas obras vos serão agradáveis; governarei vosso povo com justiça, e serei digno do trono de meu pai.

13 Que homem, pois, pode conhecer os desígnios de Deus, e penetrar nas determinações do Senhor?

14 Tímidos são os pensamentos dos mortais, e incertas as nossas concepções;

15 porque o corpo corruptível torna pesada a alma, e a morada terrestre oprime o espírito carregado de cuidados.

16 Mal podemos compreender o que está sobre a terra, dificilmente encontramos o que temos ao alcance da mão. Quem, portanto, pode descobrir o que se passa no céu?

17 E quem conhece vossas intenções, se vós não lhe dais a sabedoria, e se do mais alto dos céus vós não lhe enviais vosso Espírito Santo?

18 Assim se tornaram direitas as veredas dos que estão na terra; os homens aprenderam as coisas que vos agradam e pela sabedoria foram salvos."

1 "O God of my ancestors and Lord of mercy,

who made all things by your word;

2 and by your wisdom you formed man,

that he should have dominion over the creatures that were made by you,

3 and rule the world in holiness and righteousness,

and execute judgment in uprightness of soul,

4 give me wisdom, her who sits by you on your thrones.

Don’t reject me from among your*9:4 Or, children servants,

5 because I am your servant and the son of your handmaid,

a weak and short-lived man,

with little power to understand judgment and laws.

6 For even if a man is perfect among the sons of men,

if the wisdom that comes from you is not with him, he will count for nothing.

7 You chose me to be king of your people,

and a judge for your sons and daughters.

8 You gave a command to build a sanctuary on your holy mountain,

and*9:8 Or, a place of sacrifice an altar in the city where you live,

a copy of the holy tent which you prepared from the beginning.

9 Wisdom is with you and knows your works,

and was present when you were making the world,

and understands what is pleasing in your eyes,

and what is right according to your commandments.

10 Send her from the holy heavens,

and ask her to come from the throne of your glory,

that being present with me she may work,

and I may learn what pleases you well.

11 For she knows all things and understands,

and she will guide me prudently in my actions.

She will guard me in her glory.

12 So my works will be acceptible.

I will judge your people righteously,

and I will be worthy of my father’s*9:12 Gr. thrones. throne.

13 For what man will know the counsel of God?

Or who will conceive what the Lord wills?

14 For the thoughts of mortals are unstable,

and our plans are prone to fail.

15 For a corruptible body weighs down the soul.

The earthy tent burdens a mind that is full of cares.

16 We can hardly guess the things that are on earth,

and we find the things that are close at hand with labor;

but who has traced out the things that are in the heavens?

17 Who gained knowledge of your counsel, unless you gave wisdom,

and sent your holy spirit from on high?

18 It was thus that the ways of those who are on earth were corrected,

and men were taught the things that are pleasing to you.

They were saved through wisdom."
