1 At last our desire to have news of you was so strong that, while we ourselves were waiting at Athens,

2 We sent Timothy, our brother and God's servant in the good news of Christ, to give you strength and comfort in your faith;

3 So that no man might be moved by these troubles; because you see that these things are part of God's purpose for us.

4 And when we were with you, we said to you that trouble was before us; and so it came about, as you see.

5 For this reason, when I was no longer able to keep quiet, I sent to get news of your faith, fearing that you might be tested by the Evil One and that our work might come to nothing.

6 But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has given us good news of your faith and love, and that you have happy memories of us, desiring greatly to see us, even as we do to see you;

7 For this cause, brothers, in all our trouble and grief we were comforted about you because of your faith;

8 For it is life to us if you keep your faith in the Lord unchanged.

9 For how great is the praise which we give to God for you, and how great the joy with which we are glad because of you before our God;

10 Night and day requesting God again and again that we may see your face and make your faith complete.

11 Now may our God and Father himself and our Lord Jesus make a way for us to come to you;

12 And the Lord give you increase of love in fullest measure to one another and to all men, even as our love to you;

13 So that your hearts may be strong and free from all sin before our God and Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his saints.

1 É por isso que, tendo decidido não continuar assim sem notícias vossas, preferi ficar sozinho em Atenas.

2 E enviei o irmão Timóteo, nosso cooperador na obra do evangelho, ao serviço de Deus, a fim de que vos encoraje, vos dê conselhos que fortaleçam a vossa fé,

3 e para que ninguém se deixe perturbar por essas aflições por que têm passado. Vocês bem sabem que isso faz parte dos planos de Deus para nós, os cristãos.

4 E até, quando ainda estávamos no vosso meio, vos dizíamos de que haveriam de passar por sofrimentos. E foi o que aconteceu, como sabem.

5 Por isso, não querendo esperar mais sem saber de vocês, mandei Timóteo para que eu recebesse notícias sobre a vossa fé. Eu tinha receio de que o tentador vos tivesse feito cair durante essas provas, e que todo o nosso trabalho tivesse sido inútil.

6 Mas agora Timóteo já regressou, contando-nos muita coisa boa quanto à vossa fé e ao vosso amor cristão, e afirmando-nos também que vocês nunca nos esqueceram, e que tinham muito desejo de nos tornar a ver, tal como nós a vocês

7 Por isso ficámos mais descansados a vosso respeito; essas notícias compensaram as tribulações e as pressões no meio das quais temos vivido.

8 Dá-nos novas forças saber que vocês continuam firmes no Senhor.

9 Eu acho até que nunca poderemos estar suficientemente gratos a Deus por toda a alegria espiritual que vocês nos têm dado

10 E assim a todo o momento oramos a Deus pedindo-lhe que nos proporcione uma ocasião de vos ir ver e de vos ajudar a aperfeiçoar a vossa fé

11 Que seja então o próprio Deus, nosso Pai, e nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo que conduza as circunstâncias no sentido dessa visita.

12 E que o Senhor vos faça crescer num amor cristão cada vez mais abundante de uns para com os outros, tal como é o nosso amor para convosco;

13 para vos tornar mais ousados, e sem falha na vossa santidade, diante do nosso Deus e Pai, quando nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo vier, na companhia de todos quantos lhe pertencem.
