1 And when they draw near to Jerusalem, to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sends two of his disciples,
2 and says to them, Go into the village which is over against you, and immediately on entering into it ye will find a colt tied, upon which no {child} of man has ever sat: loose it and lead it {here}.
3 And if any one say to you, Why do ye this? say, The Lord has need of it; and straightway he sends it hither.
4 And they departed, and found a colt bound to the door without at the crossway, and they loose him.
5 And some of those who stood there said to them, What are ye doing, loosing the colt?
6 And they said to them as Jesus had commanded. And they let them {do it}.
7 And they led the colt to Jesus, and cast their clothes upon it, and he sat on it;
8 and many strewed their clothes on the way, and others cut down branches from the trees {and went on strewing them on the way}.
9 And those going on before and those following cried out, Hosanna! blessed {be} he that comes in {the} Lord's name.
10 Blessed {be} the coming kingdom of our father David. Hosanna in the highest!
11 And he entered into Jerusalem and into the temple; and having looked round on all things, the hour being already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve.
12 And on the morrow, when they were gone out of Bethany, he hungered.
13 And seeing from afar off a fig-tree which had leaves, he came, if perhaps he might find something on it. And having come up to it he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the time of figs.
14 And answering he said to it, Let no one eat fruit of thee any more for ever. And his disciples heard {it}.
15 And they come to Jerusalem, and entering into the temple, he began to cast out those who sold and who bought in the temple, and he overthrew the tables of the moneychangers and the seats of the dove-sellers,
16 and suffered not that any one should carry any package through the temple.
17 And he taught saying to them, Is it not written, My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations? but *ye* have made it a den of robbers.
18 And the chief priests and the scribes heard {it}, and they sought how they might destroy him; for they feared him, because all the crowd were astonished at his doctrine.
19 And when it was evening he went forth without the city.
20 And passing by early in the morning they saw the fig-tree dried up from the roots.
21 And Peter, remembering {what Jesus had said}, says to him, Rabbi, see, the fig-tree which thou cursedst is dried up.
22 And Jesus answering says to them, Have faith in God.
23 Verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, Be thou taken away and cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but believe that what he says takes place, whatever he shall say shall come to pass for him.
24 For this reason I say to you, All things whatsoever ye pray for and ask, believe that ye receive it, and it shall come to pass for you.
25 And when ye stand praying, forgive if ye have anything against any one, that your Father also who is in the heavens may forgive you your offences.
26 But if *ye* do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in the heavens forgive your offences.
27 And they come again to Jerusalem. And as he walked about in the temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders come to him,
28 and they say to him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority, that thou shouldest do these things?
29 And Jesus answering said to them, *I* also will ask you one thing, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things:
30 The baptism of John, was it of heaven, or of men? answer me.
31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we should say, Of heaven, he will say, Why {then} have ye not believed him?
32 but should we say, Of men-they feared the people; for all held of John that he was truly a prophet.
33 And they answering say to Jesus, We do not know. And Jesus {answering} says to them, Neither do *I* tell you by what authority I do these things.
1 Et comme ils approchaient de Jérusalem, étant près de Bethphagé, et de Béthanie, vers le mont des oliviers, il envoya deux de ses Disciples,
2 Et il leur dit : allez-vous-en à cette bourgade qui est vis-à-vis de vous; et en y entrant, vous trouverez un ânon attaché, sur lequel jamais homme ne s'assit; détachez-le, et l'amenez.
3 Et si quelqu'un vous dit : pourquoi faites-vous cela? dites que le Seigneur en a besoin; et d'abord il l'enverra ici.
4 Ils partirent donc, et trouvèrent l'ânon qui était attaché dehors, auprès de la porte, entre deux chemins, et ils le détachèrent.
5 Et quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là, leur dirent : pourquoi détachez-vous cet ânon?
6 Et ils leur répondirent comme Jésus avait commandé; et on les laissa faire.
7 Ils amenèrent donc l'ânon à Jésus, et mirent leurs vêtements sur l'ânon, et il s'assit dessus.
8 Et plusieurs étendaient leurs vêtements par le chemin, et d'autres coupaient des rameaux des arbres, et les répandaient par le chemin.
9 Et ceux qui allaient devant, et ceux qui suivaient, criaient, disant : Hosanna! Béni soit celui qui vient au Nom du Seigneur!
10 Béni soit le règne de David notre père, [le règne] qui vient au Nom du Seigneur; Hosanna dans les lieux très-hauts!
11 Jésus entra ainsi dans Jérusalem, et au Temple, et après avoir regardé de tous côtés, comme il était déjà tard, il sortit pour aller à Béthanie avec les douze.
12 Et le lendemain en revenant de Béthanie, il eut faim.
13 Et voyant de loin un figuier qui avait des feuilles, il alla voir s'il y trouverait quelque chose, mais y étant venu, il n'y trouva rien que des feuilles; car ce n'était pas la saison des figues.
14 Et Jésus prenant la parole dit au figuier : que jamais personne ne mange de fruit de toi. Et ses Disciples l'entendirent.
15 Ils vinrent donc à Jérusalem, et quand Jésus fut entré au Temple, il se mit à chasser dehors ceux qui vendaient, et ceux qui achetaient dans le Temple, et il renversa les tables des changeurs, et les sièges de ceux qui vendaient des pigeons.
16 Et il ne permettait point que personne portât aucun vaisseau par le Temple.
17 Et il les enseignait, en leur disant : n'est-il pas écrit? ma Maison sera appelée une Maison de prière par toutes les nations; mais vous en avez fait une caverne de voleurs.
18 Ce que les Scribes et les principaux Sacrificateurs ayant entendu, ils cherchaient comment ils feraient pour le perdre; car ils le craignaient, à cause que tout le peuple avait de l'admiration pour sa doctrine.
19 Et le soir étant venu il sortit de la ville.
20 Et le matin comme ils passaient auprès du figuier, ils virent qu'il était devenu sec jusqu'à la racine.
21 Et Pierre s'étant souvenu [de ce qui s'était passé], dit à Jésus : Maître, voici, le figuier que tu as maudit, est tout sec.
22 Et Jésus répondant, leur dit : croyez en Dieu.
23 Car en vérité je vous dis, que quiconque dira à cette montagne : quitte ta place, et te jette dans la mer, et qui ne chancellera point en son cœur, mais croira que ce qu'il dit se fera, tout ce qu'il aura dit lui sera fait.
24 C'est pourquoi je vous dis : tout ce que vous demanderez en priant, croyez que vous le recevrez, et il vous sera fait.
25 Mais quand vous vous présenterez pour faire votre prière, si vous avez quelque chose contre quelqu'un, pardonnez-lui, afin que votre Père qui est aux cieux vous pardonne aussi vos fautes.
26 Mais si vous ne pardonnez point, votre Père qui est aux cieux ne vous pardonnera point aussi vos fautes.
27 Ils retournèrent encore à Jérusalem, et comme il marchait dans le Temple, les principaux Sacrificateurs, et les Scribes, et les Anciens vinrent à lui,
28 Et lui dirent : par quelle autorité fais-tu ces choses, et qui est celui qui t'a donné cette autorité, pour faire les choses que tu fais?
29 Et Jésus répondant leur dit : je vous interrogerai aussi d'une chose, et répondez-moi; puis je vous dirai par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
30 Le Baptême de Jean était-il du ciel, ou des hommes? répondez-moi.
31 Et ils raisonnaient entre eux, disant : si nous disons, du ciel : il nous dira : pourquoi donc ne l'avez-vous point cru?
32 Et si nous disons : des hommes, nous avons à craindre le peuple; car tous croyaient que Jean avait été un vrai Prophète.
33 Alors pour réponse ils dirent à Jésus : nous ne savons. Et Jésus répondant leur dit : Je ne vous dirai point aussi par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
